What does the Bible say about the role of a prophet?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible declares that God will raise up a prophet from among His people, specifically fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who reveals God's will and truth.

In Deuteronomy 18:18, God promises to raise a prophet from among the people's brethren, someone they must hear. This prophet is fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, who is not only a prophet but also the ultimate revelation of God. Unlike other prophets, Jesus speaks directly the words of God, revealing His nature and will. He is the Word made flesh, as stated in John 1:14, and His role encompasses the offices of prophet, priest, and king. This all points to the uniqueness of Christ's prophetic office, as He perfectly embodies the message of salvation.
