What does the Bible teach about the role of the law in salvation?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that the law serves as a guide to reveal sin and drives us to Christ, but it cannot save.

The role of the law in salvation is not to provide a means of justification, but rather to point out humanity's sinfulness and need for a savior. Paul articulated this when he explained the proper use of the law, stating that it is good when used lawfully to show one’s inability to achieve righteousness on their own (Romans 3:20). Paul emphasized that the law serves as a schoolmaster to bring sinners to Christ (Galatians 3:24). Thus, while the law highlights God’s holiness and justice, it ultimately leads to the realization that only through faith in Christ can one attain salvation.
