What is the danger of sitting under the gospel without belief?

Answered in 1 source

The danger is that one can hear the gospel, agree with it mentally, but remain unregenerate and thus not truly saved.

Sitting under the gospel without genuine belief poses significant spiritual danger. Hebrews 3:12 warns that those who merely agree with the gospel risk developing an 'evil heart of unbelief.' This highlights the fact that mental assent to the gospel message does not equate to true faith and salvation. There are different types of hearers, as demonstrated in the parable of the sower, where only one out of four types bear lasting fruit. The passive listener may nod in agreement but remain untouched and untransformed by the truth of the gospel. It is imperative that individuals not just hear the truth but engage with it, allowing it to penetrate their hearts and transform their lives through faith.
