What is the role of faith in salvation by grace?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is the means by which we receive God's grace for salvation.

Ephesians 2:8 states, 'For by grace you have been saved through faith.' This illustrates that while grace is the source of salvation, faith is the channel through which we access it. Faith is trusting in Christ's completed work on our behalf, acknowledging our inability to save ourselves. This trust not only brings us into a relationship with God but also allows us to partake in His promises and live out the good works He has prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, faith is indispensable as it is how we respond to God's initiative of grace.
