What is the significance of baptism in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Baptism is a public declaration of faith that follows genuine belief in Jesus Christ.

In Acts 8:36-38, the Ethiopian eunuch asks what prevents him from being baptized after he confesses his belief in Jesus Christ. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (Romans 6:3-4). It's a vital step of obedience that publicly affirms one’s faith and union with Christ. It represents not only a personal faith but also a commitment to live in accordance with God's Word. While baptism itself does not save, it is an important act of obedience that follows true faith in Jesus.
