Why does God provide rest for His people?

Answered in 1 source

God provides rest as a gift and a reflection of His faithfulness, especially in Christ, our ultimate rest.

In Exodus 16 and the patterns established through the Sabbath, we see that God’s rest is rooted in His creation and His provision for humanity. After providing manna, God instituted the Sabbath as a day of rest, demonstrating His desire for His people to cease from labor and to reflect on His goodness. In Christ, believers find their ultimate rest—not just from physical labor, but from the burden of trying to earn salvation. Jesus says, 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). Thus, rest emphasizes both physical renewal and spiritual assurance.
