Why is belief in Christ important for Christians?

Believing in Christ is foundational to the Christian faith; it is through believing that we receive eternal life and justification before God. In John 3:16, we read that 'God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' This belief signifies not merely intellectual agreement, but a trust and reliance on Christ as our Savior. Furthermore, in Romans 10:9, it is stated that 'if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.'
