Why is Christ's priesthood important for Christians?

Answered in 7 sources

Christ's priesthood is vital because He alone can represent us before God and has perfected us through His sacrifice (Hebrews 7:24-25).

Christ's priesthood is fundamentally important for Christians because it highlights His unique role as the mediator between God and humanity. Unlike the Levitical priests, who were flawed and needed to offer sacrifices repeatedly, Christ, as the great High Priest, offered Himself once for all. His priesthood is everlasting; He is ever-living to intercede for us. This means that through Christ, Christians are assured of their forgiveness and acceptance by God; our status is secure, as it is based on His perfect, completed work, not our own ongoing efforts or failures.
