Why is intercessory prayer important for Christians?

Answered in 16 sources

Intercessory prayer is essential as it represents our communion with God and a means by which we advocate for others, reflecting Christ's intercessory role.

Intercessory prayer holds significant importance for Christians as it embodies the ministry of reconciliation that believers are called to engage in. Just as Abraham interceded for Sodom, we are encouraged to bring the needs and concerns of others before God. This form of prayer acknowledges our dependence on God and our belief in His power to affect change in the lives of others. Moreover, it mirrors the intercessory work of Christ, who continually intercedes for His own at the right hand of the Father. Through prayer, we actively participate in God's sovereign plan, seeking His mercy and grace upon those we pray for, fulfilling our role as ambassadors for Christ in a fallen world.
