Why is it dangerous to rely on personal goodness for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Relying on personal goodness is spiritually deceptive, as no one is good enough to meet God's standard (Romans 3:23).

Many believe their moral character is sufficient for salvation, yet Romans 3:23 states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. When judged against God's perfect holiness, even the most admirable human actions are inadequate for salvation. Isaiah 64:6 reinforces this by stating that our righteous deeds are like filthy rags before God. True righteousness that meets God's standard is given through faith in Jesus Christ, making reliance on personal goodness a perilous miscalculation.
