Why is it important for Christians to examine their hearts?

Answered in 2 sources

Examining our hearts is essential for Christians to maintain a healthy relationship with God and ensure we are walking in faith.

The examination of one’s heart is vital in the Christian life as it allows believers to assess their spiritual condition before God. According to 2 Corinthians 13:5, we are called to 'examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.' This self-examination helps uncover hidden sins and personal idolatry, which can hinder our fellowship with God. Furthermore, in light of 1 John 1:9, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Regularly examining ourselves encourages ongoing repentance, fosters spiritual growth, and deepens our gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice, allowing us to partake of the Lord's Table in a worthy manner.
