Why is it important for Christians to honor elders?

Honoring elders is integral to maintaining the order that God has established within the church. In 1 Timothy 5:17, Paul commands that elders who lead well should be given double honor, indicating that their work is vital to the health of the community. This honor is a recognition of their sacrifices and responsibilities, which fosters a spirit of unity among members. More importantly, such respect reflects our obedience to God’s design for church governance, which honors Christ as the ultimate authority.
