Why is it important for Christians to know they have an advocate?

Answered in 3 sources

Knowing we have an advocate assures Christians of God's mercy and grace despite our continuous struggle with sin.

Understanding that we have an advocate is crucial for Christians, as it provides assurance of God's mercy and forgiveness. The reality is that, despite our best efforts, we continue to fall short of God's glory due to our sinful nature. 1 John 2:1 reassures us that if we do sin, we have a go-between in Jesus Christ who intercedes on our behalf. This not only encourages us to confess our sins but also helps us to comprehend the depth of God's grace. Knowing that Christ advocates for us gives us comfort, strengthens our faith, and motivates us to strive for holiness, all while recognizing that our standing before God does not depend on our performance but on Christ's righteousness alone.
