Why is it important to understand the law's role in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding the law helps us recognize our inability to save ourselves and points us to Christ.

The law serves a vital purpose in the economy of salvation by revealing God's holiness and our fallen state. It acts as a schoolmaster, teaching us that we cannot achieve righteousness by our efforts (Galatians 3:24). This is essential for understanding the need for a Savior. As mentioned in Romans 3:20, 'by the law is the knowledge of sin.' The law shows us our shortcomings and leads us to cast ourselves upon Christ for mercy. Without recognizing the law's demands and our failure to meet them, we might mistakenly believe we can secure our own salvation.
