Why is living according to the Spirit important for Christians?

Living according to the Spirit is vital for Christians because it leads to a life that is pleasing to God. Romans 8:4 explains that the righteous requirement of the law is fulfilled in us who walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh. Without the Spirit's guidance, our efforts are futile and do not produce the righteousness that God desires. Moreover, being led by the Spirit signifies our identity as children of God (Romans 8:14), allowing us to live in the freedom of grace rather than under the condemnation of the law.
