Why is purifying oneself important for Christians?

In 1 John 3:3, John states that everyone who has this hope in Christ purifies himself just as He is pure. This process of sanctification is integral to the Christian life because it demonstrates a response to God’s love and a dedication to holiness. Believers are called not to act out of mere obligation, but to actively engage in the process of being transformed into the likeness of Christ, as affirmed in Romans 8:29, where God predestines us to be conformed to the image of His Son.
