Why is the concept of persecution important for Christians?

Answered in 3 sources

Persecution is a sign of a Christian's identification with Christ and strengthens their faith.

In John 15:20, Jesus tells His disciples that if they persecuted Him, they would also persecute His followers. This serves as an important reminder for Christians that enduring persecution for the sake of the gospel is a part of their calling. Such adversity confirms one's identity as a child of God and provides an opportunity to share in Christ's suffering (Romans 8:17). Additionally, persecution can deepen believers' reliance on God, foster growth in faith, and testify to the transformative power of the gospel. The experience of being reviled or rejected strengthens the resolve of believers to proclaim the truth of Christ boldly.
