Why is the concept of the harvest important for Christians?

The harvest serves as a potent metaphor in scripture for the responsibilities Christians have towards the lost. It signifies the readiness of many to hear the gospel, and the labor needed to bring them to saving faith. The urgency of this mission is accentuated when recognizing the fleeting time we have before Christ returns (Luke 19:42).
