Why is the concept of the Mediator important in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

The Mediator, Jesus Christ, is essential as He stands between a holy God and sinful humanity, ensuring reconciliation and access to God.

The concept of the Mediator is foundational to the understanding of redemption in Christian theology. In John 17, Christ’s role as Mediator is emphasized, highlighting His unique position to represent God to man and man to God. Christ's mediatorial work encompasses His life, sacrificial death, and continual intercession, fulfilling the divine requirements for redemption. He acts as the bridge for reconciliation, allowing sinful humans to approach a holy God. As stated in Isaiah 9:6, the government shall be upon His shoulder, which indicates His authority and responsibility as our Mediator in the kingdom of God. Without this mediatorial role, humanity would remain estranged from God due to sin.
