Why is the law of God important for understanding our need for Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The law of God reveals our inability to achieve righteousness on our own, pointing us to our need for Christ.

The law functions as a mirror, reflecting our sinfulness and inability to meet God's standards. As explained in Romans 3:20, 'through the law comes knowledge of sin.' The law demands perfection, highlighting our shortcomings and the impossibility of achieving righteousness through our works. Hence, it prepares our hearts to recognize the necessity of a Savior. Jesus fulfills the law on our behalf (Romans 10:4) and provides the righteousness we cannot provide for ourselves. Thus, the law not only condemns but ultimately drives us to the grace found in Christ.
