Why is true religion more than just knowledge?

True religion, as described in Scripture, transcends mere intellectual assent or knowledge of doctrinal truths. It involves a transformation of the heart, as seen in the teachings of Jesus regarding the necessity of being 'born again' (John 3:3). Knowledge alone, without an accompanying spiritual awakening and a heartfelt trust in Christ, is insufficient for salvation. The Apostle Paul emphasizes that spiritual truths can only be understood through the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14), reminding us that true religion is fundamentally an experiential relationship with God that results in a markedly changed life characterized by love and obedience, as taught in John 14:15.
