Let's take our Bibles and turn
with me to the book of 1 Corinthians 11. I'm going to look at verse 24,
but before we do, let's ask our Lord's blessing. This evening we thank you for
granting us the privilege to be able to be here. Lord, we will never know this
side of eternity, the importance of sitting and hearing of the
glorious Savior. Lord, bless the Word tonight
for Christ's sake. We thank you. Amen. I was going over my notes earlier. Went home thinking about them.
Came back up just a little while ago and was reading over them
again. And as I was reading over them,
this thought entered my mind. We've looked and considered what
I'm about to tell you tonight, I don't know how many times.
I have no idea the times that you that grew up listening to
Brother Scott, How many times have you heard the things that
I'm going to say tonight? How many times? And while I thought on that particular
subject right there, how many times this thought then entered my
mind, Lord, help us tonight. Help us tonight to not come and
just sit and merely have a service. Our flesh is weak. We are frail
creatures. And there are times when these
things become so familiar to us Often, because of the frailty
of our flesh, we find ourselves glazed over. Often we find ourselves coming
to services like tonight. We're going to have the Lord's
Supper. And verse 24 says concerning
the Lord's Supper, It was that night, verse 23, latter part,
the Lord Jesus, the same night in which He was betrayed, took
bread. And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
Take, eat. This is My body which is broken
for you. This do in remembrance of Me. The literal of that last part
says, Do this for a remembrance. Even as we're meeting right now,
I'm going to go ahead and just admit what you that believe think. In ourselves, we have absolutely
no ability to remember. To remember with heart, to remember
with love, to remember that which has been revealed in these holy
scriptures. And it grieves me for myself
when I think about that blessed instruction right there. Do this
in remembrance of me, and I don't want it to be just a mental assent. I don't want that. I need for
the Spirit of God, I need this evening for the Comforter. the
Spirit of Truth to testify to my heart concerning the glory
of the Lord Jesus Christ. I need the Spirit of God to bring
back to memory that that Word would not come to me in word
only. The gospel of God's grace would
come to me in power and in much assurance I need for the Spirit of God
to bring back to my memory the holy scriptures that speak of
Him, that testify of Him. He said of these scriptures,
they are they that testify of me. I want to hear. I want to say this evening, it's
been good to have been in the house of the Lord. I need to
remember. First of all, he said, do this
in remembrance of me. Holy Spirit, bring back to my
memory that the Lord Jesus Christ is God and therefore eternal. Bring back to my memory that
God Almighty The Scripture says, In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. We might talk about the beginning
of creation. We might talk about the beginning
of time. But Moses wrote these words under
the inspiration of God's Spirit. In the beginning, God. I know
He is. I know that the Savior of His
people, the Sheep, the Savior of God's church, the Savior of
the Bride, we're dealing with God Almighty. God never began. The Lord is
eternal in everything concerning Him and His people. And His attitude, His mercy and
compassion toward them is eternal. The Lord doesn't change. That's
why we're not consumed. For Christ's sake, He has everlastingly
loved His Son and all that He's chosen in them. And I'm so thankful
that I can remember that God Almighty who has set His love
and mercy and compassion on His people, that He does not change. That's why we sons of Jacob are
still here. Found in Him. Found in the grace
of God. Blessed be His holy name. God
will not impute iniquity. to His people. He will not charge
them with it. Lord, help me to remember that. I read those words and I've read
those words so many times. Lord, bring that back to my heart
and memory in power. I need to remember that He, as
the wisdom of God, in the eternal purpose and counsel of Almighty
God has forever stood as the surety. He has forever, eternally
answered the demand of God's justice and has been forever
the husband of His people. He's always been the husband.
He's always been the surety. He's always been the Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world, before the foundation of the
world. Lord, let me read these words with heart and remembrance. Ephesians 1-4, that the Father
hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world for
this reason. that we should be holy and without
blame before Him in love. Lord caused me to remember that
while I was yet in trespasses and sins, when I knew Him not,
He loved me and watched over me and guided me and directed
me. At times I think back now, Things
that could have in my mind gone desperately wrong. Things in
my mind that could have been tragic. I mean, I can relate
some things to you that just shock you. And how Almighty God kept me
and delivered me. and places that I purposed to
be. A place that I purposed to be one
night. Almighty God delivered me. I
didn't go. And there was a tragic wreck. Death. Lord, cause me to remember
that you purposed to show mercy to this sinner, and predestinated
my steps, and ordered my walk, and would not allow me, and kept
me by your grace, and put me unto the sound of the gospel,
and gave me a new heart to believe. And Christ was revealed to me,
the light of the glorious gospel of free grace. God shined in
my heart. Lord, cause me to remember that
in the day that all men stand before you, that the books will
be open in the book, and that all that were not found
written in the book were cast into the lake of fire. Lord,
that if I know You, if I'm not deceived, Lord, that I might
with assuredness know tonight that You've written my name in
Your book, the book of the Lord Jesus Christ, that I can trust
You, that I can believe You, that I can call on your name. Lord, cause me to remember that
the Word was made flesh. That God Almighty took upon Himself
humanity. And that as man, He came into
this world as the representative of all that the Father gave Him,
and that He walked before God's law perfectly, establishing as
man the righteousness of God, that the man Christ Jesus, flesh,
blood, man just as we are, except he had no sin, and that the man,
Christ Jesus, walked perfectly and never deviated in thought,
word, deed, and established righteousness, that is, the scripture says,
the righteousness of God. And that that righteousness that's
earned by our holy representative and federal head is imputed,
is charged to everyone that God gives a heart to believe in.
That we're robed tonight, and that right now, robed in His
righteousness, there is therefore now no condemnation that God's people, regenerated
by the grace of God, that they are in Christ holy. Holy in myself, that is, in my flesh. quoting the Apostle Paul under
the inspiration of God's Spirit, that is, in my flesh there dwells
no good thing, and I know that. The will is present with me,
but how to perform that which I would, I find not. But I can
tell you based on the Word of God being found in Him, I stand
in Him. That new nature, that nature
given by God Himself, Born of God. Born from above. That new
nature that does not sin. That new nature that is holy. It's holy. That's what Ephesians
1 says. Chosen in Him that we should
be holy and without blame before Him in love. And it is that nature,
it's that man that shall be with Him forever. That new man, right now, that
new man is chained, is bound to this body. As long as Almighty
God is pleased to leave me in this world and you that know
Him, you too. You're going to walk through this life bound
in this body and you're going to struggle. But there's a new
man in there that's going to see God. And this body is going
to be changed. And we're going to be like Him.
We're going to be with Him. The Lord calls me to remember
that you were made sin. That you truly were made what
we are by nature. You who knew no sin. That you
yourself was made the guiltiness of your sheep. And where sin
was found, as I said before, do not say, do not say the Scripture
does not say this. So don't say it. It's quote in
Scripture. He did not die as if he was sin. He did not die as if he were
guilty. He died made sin. And where sin was found, the
law is just. He knew no sin. But where sin
was found, death was sure. The Lord calls me to remember
that. That you died under the judgment
and wrath of God that your people might go free. That's what he
said to those that came to him in the garden. Whom seek ye?
Jesus of Nazareth. I'm He. I'm the one you want.
You let these go. You want me. You let these go
free. The Lord Jesus ascended into
heaven everlastingly to make intercession for His people.
And as the omnipresent God who is right now at the right hand
of the throne of glory. He's right now seated in the
heavenlies. Right now. I know that. And He's
right now in our presence. And He's right now in the heart
of His people. Living Christ in you. The hope of glory. I know where two or three are
gathered together. In His name, there am I in the
midst of you. Lord, help me to remember that. Lord, help me to be thankful
for Your blessed presence. Help me, Lord, to be thankful
that You've given me the privilege and the heart to be here. Lord,
had You left me to myself, where would I be? Very soon, we're going to leave
this world. And for all that love Him, for
all that He's given a heart for Him, for all that's come to Him,
for all that cometh to Him, for all that believe Him by faith
tonight, very soon, we're going to actually behold Him In the glory as God, man, the
Mediator, the Christ, we're going to behold His glory. The glory that was given Him
by the Father before the foundation of the world. The substitute. The Mediator. The Advocate. We're going to look upon and
be like Him. Lord, these wonderful truths
that are too high for me cause me to remember with thankfulness. And in remembering Him, I remember
this. Without Him, I can do nothing.
Cause me to remember that it was by grace that You saved me
through faith. that it was not of myself, lest
I should boast." If he doesn't answer for us, God will not accept us. Lord,
may I remember tonight that You are my life, that You are my
hope, You are my peace. And may I honor You by believing
You for Christ's sake.
