Baptism represents our union with Christ, illustrating that we are in Him and He is in us.
Baptism is one of the two ordinances given by the Lord to publicly demonstrate our union with Him. In baptism, we go down into the water, which symbolizes being surrounded and covered by Christ. This act signifies that we are in Him—His body, His work, His death, and His resurrection. This ordinance is for believers, affirming their identification with Christ and their faith in the gospel.
Isaiah 53, Acts 8:36-37
The Lord's Supper is a physical acknowledgement of our faith and union with Christ.
The Lord's Supper, like baptism, serves as an ordinance that illustrates our deep union with Christ. It is a visible representation of Christ being in us, and it allows believers to publicly declare their faith and trust in God. Observing this ordinance is crucial as it embodies the essence of what it means to have faith in the redemptive work of Christ, encourages self-examination, and unites the church in a shared expression of belief.
Isaiah 53, Acts 8:36-37
We know we have eternal life by believing the report God has given about His Son.
Eternal life is assured to believers because they trust the witness that God has provided concerning His Son, Jesus Christ. The scripture states that those who believe in the Son of God have the witness in themselves. It is not through any merit of our own, but by faith in Christ and what He accomplished for us through His sacrifice. As believers, our confidence stems from believing God’s report rather than our own feelings or circumstances.
1 John 5:10-13
Being a believer means having faith in the report of God's work through Christ.
A believer is someone who has placed their faith in the gospel message, acknowledging that they are sinners in need of salvation. Belief is characterized by an acceptance of God's report about Christ—His atoning work, His righteousness, and the life we have in Him. This conviction is not based on self-assurance but on an external testimony of God’s grace and the redemptive work done through Jesus, which resonates deeply within the believer’s heart.
