Now go with me to Genesis 48. Genesis 48. You may remember we went through this and I completely
passed over these two verses unintentionally. And I'm glad, for your sake,
that we waited. because I now know the meaning
of it. I'm not sure I ever did. Read with me verses 21 and 22. Yes, 48, 21 and 22. Israel said unto Joseph, Behold,
I die, but God shall be with you and bring you again unto
the land of your fathers. Moreover, I have given to thee
one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand
of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow." The Lord, well, Jacob came into
this land and says he actually built a house, pitched his tent,
but built a house and then some booths for his cattle and all
that, and he stayed here a while and he bought this piece of land. He bought this land and having
cattle and sheep, he needed water so he dug a well. He dug a well
for his sheep. But the Lord had Jacob dig this
well. so he could sit on it 1,700 years
later waiting on one of his lost sheep. Some of you rejoiced in that.
Go to John chapter 4. That's the whole reason that
Jacob gave this well to Joseph. The Lord had Jacob dig by this
property dig this well, like it was for Jacob's sheep, but
no, it was for the Lord's sheep, one of his lost sheep. John chapter
4. Joseph never came to see this
land. He never came to see this land that he owned, this well.
He never saw it. But a son of Jacob did. A son
of Abraham, son of God, came to see his land and sit on his
way to meet a lost sheep that he had prepared before the foundation
of the world. You know something, people? Everyone
and everything is sovereignly ordained and ordered by our Lord.
Everything. From the beginning of time, Everything
has been ordered and ordained, predestined by our Lord for the
purpose, for His glory, for the purpose of gathering His lost
sheep, everything. That's what it's for, His people,
gathering them into His kingdom. And as I quoted to you Wednesday
night, one by one, the Lord shall gather His people one by one. Years ago, the Lord had someone
buy this plot of land. I don't know who bought it. You
all know. You were here. But the Lord had
someone buy this plot of land back in 1961 or somewhere around
that. 1963, they began to build it.
And they dug a hole. And they had to dig a well, didn't
they? They had to have water. They had to dig a well. Little
did you know. that the Lord had this place
in mind years ago for the saving of one of His lost sheep. The whole world exists, people.
The whole world exists to feed and to keep God's people. He
said, I gave Ethiopia and Cebu for thee. He said, I gave Egypt
for your ransom. And this whole world exists to
keep God's people fed and clothed and housed for a while until
He comes for them. And then when they're all gathered,
He's going to destroy this place. This is not our home. It's just
a grazing land. And I'm sure thankful He's got
a well for us to gather at, don't you? And then He rolls away the
stone. John chapter 4. Verse 4 says,
"...he must needs go through Samaria, and he cometh to a city
of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground
that Jacob gave to his son Joseph." Now Jacob's well was there. Christ said, Moses wrote of me. He said, they are they which
testify of me. Jacob said to Joseph, you're
going to come again back to this land. You're going to come to
your wealth. Well, he never did. Oh yes, yes he did. The one whom Joseph represented.
Here he is. Come see about his land. Come
to see His well. Come to see His lost sheep. He
came a long way, didn't He? It says He was wearied with His
journey. Bless my Lord, how He wearied
Himself. We talked about this morning
how far our Lord had come for the likes of us. Isn't that amazing? You know how far He walked? He
walked all this way. You know, the reason he must
need to go through Samaria is not because it's the shortest
route, not because it was the only way, but because someone
was there that he had known before the world began and ordered this
very moment in time for her to come to meet him at that well,
like Rachel, like Rebecca at a well. All of God's sheep, all
of Christ's bride are going to meet him at the well. And He
ordains it. He orders the time, the moment.
And you will be there. And He will be there. And you
will hear His voice. And you'll go away knowing who
Christ is. Oh, may the Lord do that this
morning. Cry out with me, would you? I'm like Abraham's servant. I can't do this. Oh, the Lord
can and He does. Forlorn women in here and young
people and men. This just isn't talking about
a woman, it's talking about lost sinners, men, women, male, female,
old, young, those who don't know Christ. And our Lord was wearied
with His journey. Bless the Lord, He wearied Himself
by coming to this place, living and dying. Just to save sheep
like us, my, my. Verse 6 says, he was wearied
and he sat on the well, and it was about the sixth hour. He
sat on the well. Now, people, that well was a
sacred place. Everybody esteemed that well
as, this is Jacob's well. This is our great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather Jacob whom we highly esteem,
given to him by none other than Abraham. This is the well, and
nobody would dare sit on that well. Well, they were permitted
to draw water from it, yes, but with honor. And they were thankful
for it. But you dare not sit on that
well. Who would sit on Jacob's well? greater than Jacob. It's about the sixth hour. Noon. High noon. High noon. Now you ladies, if we were back
in the time of this time where you didn't have running water,
you'd have to go to the well. And some of you remember as a
child, Ron, that was your job in Carter County, Kentucky. You used to have to go get buckets
of water, didn't you? And bring it to the house. Some
of you all remember that. Okay? When did you do it? Noon? No. You do it in the morning,
don't you? Before the sun comes up, before
it's hot, for the day's washing, for the day's cooking, don't
you? You need it in the morning. And
then it's too hot at noon, and then maybe in the evening you'd
need some more water before you lay down at night for the evening
meal and so forth. You don't do it at noon. That's
the heat of the day. Well, this woman came at noon.
Why? She didn't want to see anybody. She was hoping that she wouldn't
see anybody. She's ashamed of herself. She's a lowly, forlorn woman. She's the laughingstock of her
community. In their eyes, she's nothing
but a harlot. And she won't see anybody. This is the kind the Lord wants
to see. And He won't meet with you this
morning until you take her place. You know that? You won't hear
from Him this morning until this is you. He doesn't need you. He doesn't
need me. And we just don't know how much
we need Him. There came a woman. Oh, and there
was a man waiting on her. She didn't want to see anybody,
but there was a man waiting on her. And I know what she must
have thought. Oh, no, I didn't want to see
anybody. And she hung her head. You know,
she thought, hey, maybe I'll just get my water and get going.
And he spoke to her. Come with the woman of Samaria
to draw water, and Christ Jesus said unto her, Give me to drink. And she looked up into eyes she'd
never seen before, into a face the likes of which she'd never
seen. And she heard a voice that spake like no man's voice. Now,
he didn't ask her, did he? He didn't ask her, would you
give me a drink? No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no,
no. Our Lord doesn't ask anything
unless it's to reveal something to us. He said, give me the drink. Give me the drink. He's not asking,
He's commanding. Like when, well, this is a voice
of authority, and she heard a voice of authority, yet it was a voice
of kindness. A deep, clear voice. A voice
that sounded like any water. A voice unlike any other that
said, give me to drink. Now, verse 8, He had sent His
disciples away into the city to buy meat. This is the only
time I can think of that He sent them to buy meat. Remember, one
other time they said, we need to go buy some food. I said,
no you don't. Twice he did that. It's the only time I know of
where he said he sent them to buy meat. Why? To get them out
of there. Because he has a private meeting
with this woman. This is a private meeting. The
Lord must meet this woman alone. And I thought about this. We are to walk circumspectly
and avoid every appearance of evil.
Opposite sex is a great temptation to us. Not to him. Not to him. He had no impure
thoughts toward this woman. No impure intentions toward this
woman. His intentions weren't wholly
good. His thoughts weren't her. He
had no passionate desires toward this woman, but oh, his desire
toward her. She was an object of his affection,
all right. She's an object of his love and
his pity and his mercy and his compassion. He had nothing but
loving thoughts and merciful thoughts about her. In verse
27, the disciples saw him talking with her, and they were a little
bit shocked. They knew this woman. Everybody
knew this woman. But they didn't dare ask him,
what are you seeking? Why are you talking with her?
Like the day he went into Simon's house. Remember? And sat there
and had dinner with all those Pharisees. And they didn't hear
a thing he said when the Lord wasn't there for them. And he was waiting on a woman.
And she came to him, and said, All the Father giveth me, Christ
said, shall come to thee. One by one. One by one. Along with the Lord. In fact,
the woman caught in the door. It was the worst day of her life.
Yes and no. And some of you understand, don't
you? The day you found out you were
a harlot was the worst day of your life, the most convicting,
the most shame you ever felt, but the greatest day of your
life. It's when you found out that God sent Hosea to marry
you. He came. Now, our Lord looked
on this woman with pure and holy thoughts. He looked at a woman
not as an object of the lust, but a lost soul. The Lord looked
at this woman as an object of His mercy and His salvation.
He looked at this woman as a little girl that's lost, and she needs
His help. He looks at her like Boaz did
to Ruth. He looked on her like Hosea did
to Gomer, with love and affection. He knew his thoughts toward her.
And others may have suspected, no, no. You know, mankind is so wicked. They've made movies and stuff
about our Lord, His last temptation. supposedly attempted by Mary
Magdalene. Is there anyone that the Lord
is going to burn this place out? Huh? His only man ever lived
didn't have those thoughts. And his thoughts were nothing
but pure, unto the pure. Now here's the verse for it.
Unto the pure. All things are pure. Oh, He came for this woman. In verse 9, it says, "...and
saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being
a Jew, ask drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria?" The Jews
have no dealings with the Samaritans. How is it that you ask of me
for a drink? This woman is totally ignorant.
We're going to find out in a minute that she's religious. She's religious,
and there's nobody more ignorant than lost religious people. Our
Lord said, if the light that's in you be darkness, oh, how great
is that darkness. Double darkness. If you have
a God and believe Him and a Jesus, but it's the wrong one, you're
steeped in ignorance. And she said, how is it that
you asked me a drink? He didn't ask her, did He? You
read it with me. Was there a question mark there? She's a typical free will, Arminian,
lost religious person, isn't she? That Jesus asks you. He wants you to do something
for Him. He can't unless you let Him.
Right? I'm not making this up. That's
why it's written this way. She's a typical Arminian free
will by nature. She was born and raised that
way. Her parents were. And that's what she thought about
God. God doesn't ask anybody anything. In Psalm 50, God said, If I were
hungry, I would not ask you. God's not a beggar. God's not
a man that He should repent. God's not asking human beings
to accept Him. I've got to holler this. Maybe
somebody will wake up. God's not asking human beings
to cooperate with Him, to let Him save them. That's not the
God of the Bible. We're dead. Unless the God who
is life gives us life, we won't live. This woman is dead. She
doesn't know Christ. She doesn't know herself. She
doesn't know what salvation is. She's ignorant. She's lost. But
she's religious. She's a miserable human being.
She's failed at every marriage she's ever had. Living in sin. Oh, that must have been acceptable
then. She doesn't know nothing. And our Lord said that. You don't
know what you worship. But he said it a little kinder
than that. Joseph didn't, did he? He spoke
roughly. I tell you, unless the Lord meets
with us, unless the Lord speaks to us, unless the Lord opens
our blind eyes and our deaf ears and gives us a new heart and
throws away our religion, destroys all our notions of God and of
him, let God. Are you kidding? Is that how
you were saved? You let Jesus into your heart?
He was outside knocking on your door? He got the wrong Jesus.
And I'm here to tell you, He's still out there. How is it that you ask me? He's
not asking her. We read that story of Rachel. You read it with me? You see
why I read that? It's a perfect story. Did Jacob ask anybody
anything? He walked right up like it was
his well. He said, why aren't you watering the sheep? They
said, it's not time yet. He said, I say it's time. They
said, we can't roll back the door. He said, I will. And he
rolled back that stone, John. And there she came. Who's this?
That's Rachel. Been waiting on her. He didn't
ask her for a kiss. He laid hold of her and said,
ìYouíre mine. The Lord gave you to me.î What happened? ìIím yours.î The Lord came for His own. He
came to His land, He came to His well, and He came for one
of His sheep. He said, ìThe foundation of God standeth sure, having
this seal. The Lord knoweth them that are
His, and every one that are His are coming to Him.î I donít stand
up here and ask people to do anything. I stand up here and declare the
Christ who does it all. And who's going to tell you if
it's your day? Come, and you will come. And
you'll meet him. And you'll drop all your religion. Verse 10, Our Lord answered her
and said, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that
saith to thee, Give me to drink, Not ask, but saith, give me to
drink. Thou wouldst have asked. You
see who needs to do the asking? Thou wouldst have asked of him,
and he would have given thee living water. If you knew. See, this is our
problem by nature. We think we know something when
we know nothing. If we ever think we know, God,
anything, Master, we know nothing. That our God said that in that
same Psalm, 50, He said, Thou thoughtest I was altogether such
a one as thyself. And I'm going to set things in
order before you. You've got the cart before the
horse. You've got man letting God do things. You've got it
all wrong. God must let us. You've got man
doing things for God. You've got it all wrong. God
must do something for us. You've got God asking man if
he'll let Him save him. It's all wrong. We've got to
start asking Him. You've got it all wrong and we're
accepting Him. We must be accepted. And if you knew the gift of God and who it is,
not what, the gift of God thanks men to God for His unspeakable
gift. What's that? Heaven? It's a person. It's not a place. It's not a
thing. It's a person. If you knew the gift of God,
she didn't know anything. She didn't know God. She didn't
know Him. Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
is standing right in front of her and she didn't know Him.
And I'm preaching Christ right now to some people that don't
even know Him. Do you know some people can sit
and hear the Gospel like this? It's plain to those that understand.
Christ is just as plain to those that understand. And people can
sit and hear that and not see any difference than what's being
preached today. None. Amazing, isn't it? She didn't
know. The truth was standing right
in front of Pilate. The truth was standing right
in front of Pilate. And Pilate said, What is true? She didn't know God. She thought
she did. She didn't know Christ. If you
don't know Christ, the true Christ, you don't have salvation. She
didn't know the truth. She didn't know herself. She
didn't know herself. And He's come to reveal Himself
to her. He's come to reveal God to her.
He's come to reveal salvation to her. More than that, He's
come to give it. If you knew who it is that saith you, give
me to drink, you would have asked of Him and He would have given
thee living water. It's His to give. It's His to
give. Salvation is of the Lord. It
belongeth unto Him. And His blessing to be upon His
people. And how you know that they're His is they ask Him.
This woman is going to ask. But it's His to give. It's His
to give. Oh, bless the Lord. This is the
day of her salvation. And she doesn't know it. She's
like that child cast out in the field of Ezekiel. This is a time
of love. He's going to say, live to her,
to this poor cast out woman. For a small moment have I forsaken
thee. You see, your maker is your husband.
And with great mercies I'll gather thee. If you knew who, you'd
ask. If you ever find out that salvation
is a who, that's who you'll be seeking.
And if you knew, this is a very simple message here, okay? Three
point. You won't forget it. Brother David preached the message
from Ephesians 4, entitled, One. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
one hope, one faith, one, one. Whenever he kept going through
the Scripture, one, one, one. I'll never forget what David
preached, one. If you knew, you would ask and he would give. That simple isn't it? The gospel is simple. Although
it's mysterious and no man knows, and his way is past finding out,
unsearchable riches of Christ, and we'll never fully understand,
but very simply, very singularly, this is it. If you knew, and
you won't know until he makes you know, and then when you do,
you would ask. You'll cry out, and he'll give. Not, if you knew,
you'll work. If you knew, you'll climb Sinai
and you'll... No, no, no, no. You just ask.
And bless God, He'll give. I don't care how many times you've
been married. Isn't that good news? If you knew. Well, I know, people. I know.
And I'm asking. Pray without ceasing. Keep asking.
He'll give it. Salvation is a gift, not an offer.
He didn't ask us to receive it. He didn't ask her, did He? But
we must ask. And you know what? Do you know
why we'll ask? Because He gives that. We won't ask until He gives it.
Living water. Living water. He said, I'll give
you living water. Well, the Lord is creating an
interest in this woman. He's creating a thirst. He's
creating a thirst in this woman. You know, she's been getting
thirsty for years. The Lord moves in a mysterious
way. The Lord's ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not
our thoughts. His sovereign providence often
moves very slowly and hard to discern. But the Lord is making
this woman thirsty. He'd been doing this to her for
a long time. She's been trying many things
and many people. Trying to get some satisfaction.
Trying to get some happiness. Trying to find somebody that
loves her. And she can't find anybody or
anything. And she's thirsty, alright, for
what she doesn't know. She doesn't know what she wants.
She not only doesn't know God, she doesn't know herself. She
doesn't know what she wants or what she needs. She doesn't know
if she's coming or going. She's just coming to get water
for another day. And she said to him, look how
ignorant she is. Verse 11, this woman said to him, Sir, thou
hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From whence
hast thou this living water? Nothing to draw with. He has
cords. This man has cords of love that
he draws. It doesn't matter how far off
a sheep is. He's going to get it. It doesn't
matter how far that sheep goes away. His arm is not short. Oh, it's deep though. She's deep
in sin. You don't know how deeply stained
it is within. Doesn't the song say we sing,
when he reached way down for me? His arm's not short. She said,
are you greater than our father Jacob? Verse 12. Which gave us
this well, and he drank it, and he gave it to his children, his
calf. Are you greater than Jacob? You know, as I was trying to
say a while ago, men and women are so ignorant of the Lord Jesus
Christ, they think of Him as only a man. They don't think
more highly of Him now than she did then. She thought He was
just a man. And He couldn't do anything without
her. What's He got to draw with? A voice. Just speak a word. Let there be light. What am I
drawing with this morning? What am I attempting to draw
with this morning? Some women, young people, men even in here,
that I hope the Lord will draw to Himself. What am I using?
Tactics, tricks, gimmicks, religious stuff, you know, putting dollar
bills under the seat? No, no, no. I've got one thing
that draws. Living water. Seed, the Word,
the Word of God. And if Jesus cried, this is how
He does it. If the Spirit of God takes this
old earthen vessel that's just merely repeating what God says,
if it's time, if it's time, it's going to be the voice of the
Son of God. That's why the Lord chooses preaching.
Don't despise it, nor the preacher. Aren't thou greater than our
father Jacob? Oh my lady, there's no man great. There's no great
man on earth. Jacob didn't give you this well.
The one sitting on it did. They said of Moses, are you greater
than our father Moses? Moses gave us this bread. Remember
that? Moses, show us a sign, they said
to Jesus. Show us a sign, we'll believe
you. Moses gave us this bread. He said, Moses didn't give you
that bread. He said, I am the bread. Art thou greater? Greater? There's
none greater. This is the great God, the great
Son of God. who gave Jacob this well and
all his children, who gives salvation to all his children, all his
cattle, all his sheep. He gives them all this living
water. It's he that giveth life and
breath and salvation. Is he greater? There's none greater.
He's greater than Jacob, greater than Abraham, greater than Solomon
was here. None greater than the great Lord
and God, Jesus Christ. He's created an interest in her.
He's created a thirst in her. Verses 13 and 14. And the Lord
answered her and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water
shall thirst again, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I
shall give him or her shall never thirst." The water that I shall
give. You notice who's doing the giving,
and you notice the certainty of it. I shall give him, shall be in
him or her a well of water springing up unto everlasting life. Our
Lord said, this water, and He may have pointed down in that
well there, or may have pointed all around here. He may have
just spread His arms out for that woman to see and said, this
water. Whatever it is that you're seeking to quench your thirst
for happiness, your thirst for joy, your thirst for love, your
thirst for peace, your thirst for fulfillment, it's going to
leave you thirsty. The eye is never satisfied with
seeing. The ear is never satisfied with
hearing. The mouth with eating, with tasting. The flesh is never satisfied.
People won't satisfy you. Things won't satisfy you. The
water of this world, our Lord said, all it does is leave you
thirsty. When you have it for a while
and you enjoy it for a while and you think, I have all I need,
and then it's gone. And then what? You can't get
it back and you thirst more than ever. But Christ said, the water
that only I have, that I give, that is Him Himself. If I give it, it will be in you,
Christ in you, the hope of glory. And if I put this water in you,
this salvation in you, it will be a spring of water. When nothing
else satisfies, you can find it satisfying. In fact, when
you get so hot and tired and weary, and this world has made
you weary and thirsty, the Word is now even in your breast, right
there. Call it up. Bring it up. There
it is. A well spring. When things are going bad, when
all about you is failing, when everyone has left you, it's there. He's there. Springing it up.
Giving you life back from the dead. She said, I'll never leave
you. She had five husbands, Bonnie,
that left her. Five of them. She thought she'd
found happiness in each one of them. You know what she thought? She thought, there are no good
men on this earth. Nobody smiles at that. Women
do. She thought, I just can't find
a good man. You think it's all their fault?
You see what I'm saying? You think it's all their fault?
She didn't know herself. This is what Adam and Eve blamed
each other, you know. The Lord created a problem. He
created a thirst. He said, go call your husband. She said, verse 15, give me this
water that I thirst not, neither come here. I don't want to come
back to this well again. She still doesn't know. She doesn't
know what he's talking about. Maybe you don't. Give me this water. And lots
of religious people think, you know, if they can just get whatever. If the Lord just give them this
and give them that, that it would be all right. No, no. He needs
to give you Himself. He said, Go call thy husband,
verse 16, and come hither. The woman answered and said,
I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast
well said, I have no husband. For thou hast had five husbands,
and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband, and that saidst
thou truly." Married five times and failed miserably, all five.
And now she's living with a fellow, going to try him out and see
if they really love one another, and then they'll get married. It ain't going to work. What makes you think it's going
to work now? You see what he's saying? This water will leave you thirsty. And it creates a problem. It's
her sin and it's her ignorance. Her sin and her ignorance. The Lord has to reveal Herself
to her. And you know, I pray this morning that the Lord will
make Our young daughters marry Him before they look for a husband. Oh, my. Because if they marry
Him, they'll look for a man like Him. But this woman was living
in sin, and the Lord has never condoned this at all. Nor divorce
and cause of adultery. The Lord doesn't condone this. He doesn't excuse it at all.
And He shows her how. What an absolute failure as a
human being she is. She's an absolute failure and
miserable. You know, she's miserable and
doesn't know it. But she's religious. And the Lord never condoned adultery,
and it's not acceptable, and that is divorce, and it causes
adultery and fornication, living with somebody. And the Scripture
says, such were some of you. But you're washed, and this woman's
about to be. And she said, here's what she
said, here's her answer, verse 19 and 20. This woman said, I
perceive that you're a preacher. You're a prophet, you're a preacher.
So she immediately begins to tell him that she's religious. Our fathers worshiped in this
mountain. And you say in Jerusalem is a place where men ought to
worship. You say, I'm a Baptist, and you're a Methodist. And you
say over here you worship. You say that in Jerusalem. We say in the mountains. And
you say that it's baptism by immersion. And we say it's baptism
by sprinkling. You say it's this way. We say
it's that way. And our Lord said in verse 21, our Lord said, Woman, believe
Me. Believe me, the hour cometh when
you shall neither in this mountain nor yet at Jerusalem worship
the Father. You worship you know not what.
You don't know what you worship. And that's the same with most
today. Most do not know what they worship. They say God loves
everyone, but they're in hell. Many of them are in hell right
now. And what good is the love of God? If God loves everyone, and there
are some people in hell that He loves, what good is His love?
What good is it? It doesn't save a fleet of them. They say Jesus
paid it all. Everybody sings that song. Christ
died for everybody. Jesus paid it all. Yet there
are some people in hell right now, supposedly for whom Christ
died. Then what does the blood of Jesus
Christ have to do with anybody? You don't know what you worship.
They say, God controls everything. God's in control of everything,
but He didn't want that to happen. When something happens, they
say, God didn't want that to happen. You don't know what you
worship. Is He in control or isn't He?
Is He sovereign or isn't He? They say, God can't save unless
you let Him. God controls everything, but
He just can't do anything about man's will. You don't know what
you worship. Salvation, he says, of the Jews. Salvation is of the Jews. That
means whom he chooses, whom he reveals himself to. Jacob, that's
who they come from. He's had a covenant. It's all
about a covenant that God made concerning them. And it's going
to be done. A covenant. It's going to be fulfilled. He's
going to remember it for them. It's all a salvation of the Jews.
You've got to have a tabernacle, a high priest, and a sacrifice
to worship God. You can't come to God without
a tabernacle, and a high priest, and a sacrifice. These three.
Do you know what these three are? One. One. But she didn't know. Maybe someone in here doesn't
know. And he said in verse 23, "...the hour cometh, and now
is..." Right now. What he's saying, you see what
he's saying here? Right now, you're going to worship me. I've never seen that before,
what he's saying to that woman. The hour has come. The hour has
come. Her hour has come. And right now is. The true worshipper,
the true worshipper shall worship the Father in spirit, and in
truth, not the flesh, not with all these things, but from the
heart by the Spirit of God through the preaching of the gospel,
through the preaching of the Word, through the preaching of
Christ, the truth and truth, that's the truth as it is in
the Lord Jesus Christ, His Word, His gospel, the truth as it is
in Christ, who He is, what He did, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification,
redemption, salvation, redemption through His blood, Forgiveness
of sin through His blood, the atonement through Him. That's
the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in Him.
So help me. The Word of God. And a woman
says unto Him, verse 25, I know Messiah is coming. Yeah, we're
waiting on the Christ. He's called to Christ. When He's
come, He'll tell us all things. And Jesus said unto her, I that speak unto thee, I am.
I am. I am. That's all the Lord needs
to do to one of His lost sheep. He comes to find them, reveals
a need, gives a thirst, reveals their sin, their shame and their
guilt and their inability and tells them, what they really
need and must do, and then when they ask for it, He tells them,
I am. I am. And look what she did,
and I close. Verse 28 says, The woman left
her water pot. and went her way into the city
and said to the men, ìCome see a man which told me all things
that ever I did is not this the Christ.î And they went out of
the city and came unto him. He left her water pot. Thatís
not all she left. She left that religion. She left that religion. She probably
left that fellow. If the Lord, she went home, she
went back to that place, to that fellow that she was living with,
and she said, come see a man. We've been living in sin. And
we're nothing but no good sinners. And Bill, or whatever his name
was, you need Christ. I need Christ. And Bill, I've
met Christ. I've met Him. Come with me. Won't you come here with me?
And if He wouldn't come, He's not going back to me. Christ said, I am. And by saying
that, He's saying, I am the way, the truth, the life. I am salvation. I am everything. Christ is all. Christ is all and in all His
people. A wellspring of water. All right, stand with me and
I'm going to dismiss this in prayer. Our Lord and our God, in the
name of your blessed Son, the Savior of sinners, the Shepherd
of the sheep, the Seeker of the lost, the salvation of your people,
the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world, husband
for forlorn women, O Lord, speak, we pray. Speak. As we've asked
before, we ask again. I believe you've spoken to your
people anyway, those who know you, those who had a hunger and
a thirst. We thank you for that. None of
us deserve to hear this. Oh, how we're glad when you do,
when you speak. You give us the heart to receive
it. Now, all of us are ignorant, Lord. We're so ignorant. We're
so ignorant of our great need. We dwell in Egypt. We dwell in
this land, the hot and thirsty land where no water is, no bread,
Lodibar. Oh, Lord, show us again and again
and again. Come meet with us, we pray, at
the well. And speak to us. Show us our living water, the
well of salvation. Let us draw joy from these wells. Forgive us of our sins in Christ's
name. Amen.
