What does the Bible say about the defeat of Satan?

The Bible teaches that Satan has been cast out of heaven, defeated by Christ's work on the cross.

In Revelation 12:9, we see that Satan, described as that old serpent, has been cast out of heaven. This event signifies the ultimate defeat of Satan, which was secured by the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Jesus stated that when He is lifted up, the world's judgment would come, and the prince of this world would be cast out (John 12:31). This underscores that salvation has been accomplished, and Satan no longer has access to accuse the elect before God since all power and authority have been given to Christ after His resurrection.

Revelation 12:9, John 12:31

How do we know the doctrine of salvation by grace is true?

The truth of salvation by grace is affirmed in Scripture as being fully accomplished through Christ's work.

Salvation is not just a possibility or an offer; it is an accomplished fact grounded in the redemptive work of Christ. The book of Revelation tells us, 'Now has come salvation,' indicating that salvation is fully realized through Christ's redemptive act (Revelation 12:10). Additionally, Ephesians 2:8-9 affirms that we are saved by grace through faith, not of ourselves; it is the gift of God. This truth is reinforced by the fact that the lamb was slain before the foundation of the world, securing the salvation of God's elect eternally.

Revelation 12:10, Ephesians 2:8-9

Why is the resurrection of Christ significant for Christians?

The resurrection of Christ is significant because it affirms His victory over sin and death, ensuring eternal life for believers.

The resurrection of Christ is central to the Christian faith as it confirms His victory over death and sin, providing believers with hope for their own resurrection and eternal life. In Revelation 12:5, we see that the child born to the woman was 'caught up to God and to His throne,' symbolizing Christ's ascension after His resurrection. This event assures us that if we are united with Christ in His death, we will also be united with Him in His resurrection, as stated in Romans 6:5. Thus, His resurrection serves as the foundational assurance of our salvation and future hope in Him.

Revelation 12:5, Romans 6:5

What does the symbol of the woman in Revelation 12 represent?

The woman in Revelation 12 represents the Church and the elect of God, beautifully arrayed in Christ's righteousness.

In Revelation 12, the woman who symbolizes the Church is depicted as clothed with the sun, representing the righteousness and glory of Christ that adorns the elect. This symbolic imagery shows that the Church, though currently in a state of earthly travail, is promised victory through Christ. The moon under her feet signifies the authority given to the Church, while the twelve stars represent the foundation of the Church built upon the apostles. Thus, the woman stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness to His people throughout history as they await the final fulfillment of salvation.

Revelation 12:1, Ephesians 5:27

How does Satan deceive humanity according to Revelation 12?

Satan deceives humanity by spreading lies and leading people away from the gospel of grace.

Revelation 12 depicts Satan as the great deceiver who has led the entire world astray. His tactics include promoting falsehoods, the most significant of which is the lie that individuals can control their own destiny or achieve salvation through their own efforts. This deceit parallels the original temptation in the Garden of Eden, where he convinced Eve to question God's word. As a result, humanity is often led to seek salvation through works rather than through faith in Christ alone, which is the message of the gospel. The call to embrace Christ is a call to reject Satan's lies and embrace the truth of grace offered in Him.

Thank you for that. Let's go
to Revelation chapter 12. Again, this evening, Revelation
chapter 12. Our subject is Satan. Satan cast
out. Satan cast out. This is actually the beginning
of the fourth vision that the Lord Jesus shows to John. The fourth vision does include
this chapter, the 13th chapter, and the 14th chapter as well. Through these three chapters,
we get a view of the gospel age. That age that spans the distance
between the first advent of our Lord Jesus, His first coming,
and extends all the way to the second advent, or the second
coming of our Lord Jesus. We see His beginning in this
world, His incarnation. And then this vision will take
us all the way through to the end of the age, as every vision
does. In fact, if you want to just
take a peek at chapter 14, I'll show you this, chapter 14, verses
14, 15, and 16. Chapter 14, verse 14, And I looked,
and behold, a white cloud. And upon the cloud one sat, like
unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and
in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of
the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the
throne, or on the cloud. And here's the voice, he said,
thrust in thy sickle and reap, for the time is come for thee
to reap. For the, as he says, the harvest
of the earth is ripe. He that sat upon the cloud, thrust
in his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped." That's
when our Lord Jesus gathers His elect, gathers His own people
into the barn, and He gathers His wheat into the garner, as
He says in one of the parables, in Matthew chapter 13. And then
everyone else is thrust out, is cast out into outer darkness. And so in this vision, spanning
these three chapters, we have set before us what the Lord Jesus,
what He has done, what He is doing regarding His people during
this age, And what He is going to do, that is, bring about a
final judgment upon the wicked. Now, as the vision begins in
chapter 12, verse 1, there appeared a great wonder. Chapter 12, verse
1, there appeared a great wonder. We said this morning, the first
few verses present to us two wonders. One of them is said
to be a great wonder. The other one isn't said to be
a great wonder, but nevertheless it is a very important thing
and certainly worth us studying about and knowing about, otherwise
it wouldn't be in the Word of God. The first great wonder,
the great wonder that he mentions is the wonder, the great wonder
of a woman. The scripture says a woman who
is robed or clothed with the sun. She's beautifully arrayed. There's a brilliance, a brightness
about this woman. The moon is under her feet and
on her head a crown of 12 stars. In this great wonder, this woman
is pregnant. And she travails in birth until
she delivers. The next wonder that is set before
us in the third verse, another wonder is that of a great red
dragon. This great red dragon is identified
as that old serpent, Satan, the devil. He's identified down in
verse number nine. I want to first of all tonight
focus on this woman, this glorious woman as she is said before us
here in the Scripture. She is the redeemed of the Lord.
She is the body of Christ Jesus in the Old Testament. You'll
notice it says, there appeared a great wonder in heaven. John
sees the elect of God in heaven. He sees the saints of God already
taken up into the third heaven to be with the Lord. This is a woman who is, she's
robed, clothed with a brightness that John says is like the sun. What is this beauty that she
has? Well, it's none other than the
righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's the beauties of
the Son of God. She is gloriously arrayed. After
all, she's robed in that righteousness, that garment of salvation rolled
out by our Lord Jesus by his substitutionary death upon the
cross of Calvary. He is said to be the Lord, our
righteousness. And here she is, this woman.
And as John sees her, he says, I see her in heaven. Because
she's always with the Son of God. Because she's joined to
Him. She's always been joined to the
Son of God. And where He is, that's where
she is. You see, even now in the mind and purpose of God,
we're all seated in the heavenlies with Christ Jesus. And John sees
her in heaven, and he sees her, she is gloriously, gloriously
arrayed. There's a brightness about her,
but it's not her own brightness, it's the brightness of the bridegroom.
You can read over in the book of Isaiah, it talks about the
bridegroom or the bride wearing the garments of the bridegroom.
She is arrayed gloriously. You know, you and I by nature,
here's the garments that we wear, the garments of self-righteousness.
ruined and raggedy. That's us. That's us in our sinfulness. That's us in our depravity. That's us in our wickedness.
But by grace, by grace we're robed in the righteousness of
Christ Jesus. This is beautifully set forth
in Ezekiel chapter 16, where Ezekiel sees this infant that's
been cast out. Hadn't been washed. Hadn't been
swaddled, just cast aside. There's our fallen Adam. Nothing,
nothing that that infant can do to improve its situation. Can't wash itself, can't clothe
itself, can't care for itself, that's up. We're spiritually
diseased, spiritually dead, really. But the Lord said, it was a time
for love. And I passed by, and God said,
I said, do you live? And you lived. And then he goes
on to say that your beauty, you're beautiful through my humbleness,
through my beauties. And here John sees the people
of God. And he doesn't see us what we
are in ourselves. He sees us what we are in Christ
Jesus. clothed with the Son, that is,
with the Son of Righteousness, who rose with healings in His
wings, and we have His righteousness. The moon is under her feet. She
has authority. She has authority. Then it says
on her head, she has on her head a crown of twelve stars. This woman, no doubt, pictures
the church of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is in great travail,
great travail. Throughout the Old Testament,
we find the saints of God always looking for and waiting for the
Son of God. All of the Old Testament scripture
says somebody is coming. and the saints of God throughout
those 4,000 years from the fall of Adam up to the birth of our
Lord Jesus Christ there recorded first, of course, in Matthew
chapter 1. For those 4,000 years here at
the church of our Lord Jesus Christ, she travailed. She longed
for the Son of God to come in the world. She wanted Him. She
desired Him. He's the desire of all nations
of His people. And yet He didn't come, but she
still longed for Him. Every sacrifice that was offered
in the Old Testament, they all pointed to Christ Jesus. And
though rivers of blood flowed on Jewish altars, none of those
sacrifices, none of those offerings put away the sins of the Lord's
people and the people of God. They said, oh, that He would
come. And they waited for Him. They waited for Him anxiously. They anticipated His coming. They looked for that day. They
had heard passed down through generations and they had read
the Word of God back in Genesis chapter 3 when the Lord said,
the seed of the woman is coming. He's going to crush the head
of the serpent. And they remembered that word
of prophecy, and they longed for Him, and they waited for
Him, and the church together was in great travail for the
Son of God, waiting for Him, waiting for the consolation.
of Israel. This is the one that Simeon waited
for, as I said this morning, and Anna waited for, and the
rest of the saints of God. So this woman depicts the Old
Testament Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. Beautifully arrayed. Now go back and address this.
She has on her head a crown of twelve stars. She stands triumphant
in Christ Jesus. We're more than conquerors through
Him that loved us. We're made kings and priests
unto God, but there's more here than that. John says, I saw upon her head
a crown of twelve stars. Hold your place right here and
go to the book of Colossians chapter 1. I saw on her head Remember, this
is great, great symbolism here. The woman pictures the church
of our Lord Jesus in the Old Testament. And he says, I saw
in her head a crown. A crown. Twelve stars in the
crown. Look at Colossians chapter 1,
verse 18. And He is the head of the body,
the church. We need not read any further.
He is the head of the body, the church. And as we look back here
in Revelation chapter 12, she had upon her head a crown of
twelve stars, upon the head of the church. Upon the head of
the church. Here is the church. And upon
her head. Who is her head? Christ Jesus
is her head. He is the head of the church.
The church is His body. Look with me in Ephesians, the
first chapter. It is upon the head of the body
that John sees the crown. Look in Ephesians chapter 1. Ephesians chapter 1, it talks
about the work which God in verse number 20, Ephesians 1, 20, which
He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and
set Him in His own right hand in the heavenly places far above
all principality and power and might and dominion and every
name that is named not only in this world but also in that which
is to come and has put all things under His feet Remember, the
moon has been put under the feet of the woman and gave Him to
be the head over all things to the church, which is His body,
which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all. And John sees this woman. She
is gloriously arrayed, robed in the righteousness of the Son
of God. Under her feet is the moon, the
moon, and he says, of her head as a crown of 12 stars. Oh, we sing, crown Him with many
crowns. The Lamb upon His throne. No
other one is worthy to be crowned. He has earned the victory. He
wrought, He wrought the victory when He died on the cross. And
we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Worthy is the
Lamb that was slain to receive power and glory and wisdom and
strength and honor. So he sees the church and she
being with child, cried, travailing in birth, pained to be delivered. Then he sees the next wonder.
Behold a great red dragon. This is Satan. This is Satan. He gets down to verse 4. His
tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven. We talked about
it this morning. He's a liar. He's a liar. And with his lie, he led one
third of the angels of God in rebellion against the Lord. And
with that identical lie, he deceived Eve. And with that same lie,
he deceives people today. The lie that you are in control
of your destiny and you can be as God. Isn't really that what
you think about false religion today? Think about the foolish
things that people say. God voted for you. The devil
voted against you. You cast the deciding vote. You
shall be as gods. You shall be as God. You will
be in control. You have the authority over your
destiny, whether you live or die, whether you go to heaven
or hell, it's totally up to you. That's the devil's lie. The devil's
lie. He deceived one third of the
angels. Follow me. You'll have authority. He deceived Eve. Believe me. Follow me. You'll be as God's,
knowing good and evil. That lie is still being sent
forth by those who say that they are ministers of light, but really
are angels of darkness still today, that you control your
destiny. No, you don't. Our God sovereignly
has the authority over all things. He has the keys of life and death. He has the keys of salvation. He gives grace and mercy unto
those whom He will. Now here is our Lord Jesus. Our Lord Jesus, notice after
it says concerning in verse 4, His tail drew a third part of
the stars of heaven. He did cast them to the earth.
The dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered.
What's His purpose? What is it that he is set out
to do? To devour her child. To devour her child just as soon
as it's born. And when our Lord Jesus was born,
when the church gave birth to the Savior, symbolically, I know
Mary gave birth to Him, but it was for many, many years, the
Lord's people were in travail concerning His birth. And when
He entered into this world, the red dragon was waiting. And His
desire was to devour Him. And so He moved within the heart
of Herod. Kill that baby. The kings came, the wise men
from the east came and said, where is he that is born King
of the Jews? We've seen his star. They went to Jerusalem. Surely
they'll know in Jerusalem where the Messiah is born. But nobody
there knew. Herod said, you go and find him. Go and find him. These religious
scholars say he's to be born in Bethlehem. Go and find him. Then bring me word back. Herod
had it in his heart to kill him. That's his desire. To devour,
to devour this man-child as soon as he's born into the world.
Satan was defeated, of course. The Lord protected the Son of
God, the Son of Man. Later, Satan led him into the
wilderness where he was led by the Spirit of God into the wilderness. And in the wilderness, our Lord
Jesus was tempted 40 days and 40 nights. Satan tried to defeat
him, but he couldn't do it. He tried to devour him then,
but he couldn't do it. Later, he used Simon Peter. He
entered into the heart of Simon Peter. He suggested this to Peter. Tell him not to go to Jerusalem.
Tell him don't go. Don't go. And the Lord Jesus
said to Simon Peter, get thee behind me, Satan. He tried to
destroy the man-child then. when he was in the Garden of
Gethsemane, but most especially in this betrayal and arrest and
conviction and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus. He thought he
was devouring the man and child. But what he didn't realize, and
what most people don't realize, the death of the Lord Jesus Christ,
that was his triumph. That was His finest hour. That's
where He brought all glory unto Himself when He redeemed His
people by the shedding of His blood. Look again here in verse
5. She brought forth a man-child.
Great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh. This man-child who is destined
to rule all nations with a rod of iron. With a rod of iron. Go back to Psalm 2 with me. Look at Psalm 2. Psalm 2. Look at verse 7. I will declare
the decree. The Lord hath said unto me, Thou
art my son, this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me and I shall give
thee the heathen for thine inheritance and the uttermost parts of the
earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a
rod of iron. The rod of iron is in the hand
of the man-child, of the man-child. Thou shalt dash them in pieces
like a potter's vessel. I'll give you a couple more references.
Revelation chapter 2. Revelation chapter 2. Look at
verse 27. Revelation chapter 2 and verse
27. Revelation 2.27, "...and He shall
rule them with a rod of iron. As the vessels of a potter shall
they be broken to shivers, even as I received of my Father."
One other reference on this, go over to Revelation 19. Revelation
19. Revelation 19.15. Here John sees heaven opened
again. He sees a white horse. He sees
the rider on the white horse. And he says in verse 15, And
out of his mouth doth a sharp sword, that with it he should
smite the nations, and He shall rule them with a rod of iron."
A rod of iron. Who is this man-child back over
here in Revelation chapter 12? Who is this man-child that's
been given the rod of iron? None other than the Son of God,
the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior, our God, and our King. Now notice
in verse 5, Back in chapter 12, she brought forth a man-child
who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. Her child was
caught up unto God and to His throne. Now I ask you this, on
what basis would He be caught up to God and to His throne? You see, He left His throne and
He came down here. On what basis can He go back
and set on the throne this man-child? You see, He was certainly the
eternal everlasting God, the mighty God, the everlasting Father. He's been that from old eternity. But He stepped out of eternity
into time. And He robed His deity clay, a human body, clay, like
we've got, bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh. And in that
flesh, in that vessel, as he tabernacled in the flesh, He
honored God's law, fulfilled all justice, satisfied God in
bearing all the sins of His people and enduring the wrath of God. And then He went back to heaven.
On this basis, He went back to heaven and sat down on the basis
of having finished the work that God gave Him to do. The work
of redemption. The work of saving His people.
The work of shedding His blood in order to redeem all of the
children that God had given to Him in the covenant of grace. Her child was caught up to God
and to His throne. He's gone back to glory. But what about the woman? What
about His people who are in this world? Well, the woman fled into
the wilderness. That's where we are now. We're
in the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God.
You know, even in this wilderness, God provides an oasis for His
people. Even in this wilderness. He provides
for us shade, shelter, food, drink, And I'm speaking spiritually. I know He provides those things
physically. But He provides for those things
for His people in a spiritual way. And He feeds us. He feeds us. He feeds us there
1,203 score days. 1,260. And that's the time of
the Gospel Age. And all during this Gospel Age,
the Lord is feeding clothing, providing for His people. But
then watch what happens in verse 7. There's war in heaven. Michael. Michael, which I take
to be another name for the Lord Jesus Christ. Michael the archangel. Now listen, it is absolutely
wrong to say archangels. The Bible never says archangels.
There's one archangel because arch means chief. The main one. The one who's over all the rest.
And that's Michael. Michael, whose name means one
who is God. One who is God. So I agree with
John Gill and a multitude of other writers who say Michael
is just another name for the Lord Jesus Christ. There's war
in heaven. Michael and his angels fought
against the dragon. And the dragon fought and his
angels. And prevailed not, verse 8. And
prevailed not. Now remember this. Here's the
theme of the book of the Revelation. The victory of the lamb and his
followers over the dragon and his followers. And right here
we see the victory. Right here we see that triumphant
hour. Satan and his angels prevailed
not. Neither was their place found
anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast
out. That old serpent. That old serpent
cast out. Now, if I could put this in kind
of a chronological order, I'd put it this way. Our Lord Jesus
died, having done the work that God
gave Him to do. He put away our sins. He established
righteousness for us. Everything God demanded for our
salvation, everything God required, our Lord Jesus successfully rendered
to the Father. Right? And then He bowed His
head. He had said, it is finished.
He bowed His head and He gave up the ghost and He went back
to glory. And immediately something happened.
All power was given to Him. All authority was given to him.
Later he would say to his disciples before his ascension, all power
is given to me in heaven and in earth. Go you and all the
world and preach the gospel. Our Lord Jesus, as soon as he
got back to heaven, opened the gates, the king is coming in.
He went to paradise. And all authority and all power
was given unto him. And the next thing he does was,
Satan and all of you demonic hosts, you're cast out. He casts
them out of heaven. And they don't have access to
heaven anymore. They don't have access to heaven
anymore. I want you to notice how often
it is said that this dragon was cast out. cast out. First of all, in the latter part
of verse 8, here is what cast out essentially means. Neither
was their place found anymore. Where? In heaven. Not anymore. Not anymore. Well, where are
they now? On earth. on earth, around the
earth, but not in heaven anymore. You say, but doesn't Satan accuse
us in heaven now? No! You won't find anywhere in
the New Testament that indicates that right now Satan has access
to the throne of God to make an accusation against his people. After all, who shall lay anything
to the charge of God's elect? He's been cast out. If words
mean anything, in verse 8, their place was found no more, not
anymore, where? In heaven. In heaven. Now notice how often he says
he was cast out. And the great dragon was cast
out. That old serpent, cast out of
where? Cast out of heaven. He's called
the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. One of the brethren
and I were talking about this as he exited the building this
morning, and the fact that there are in the Bible set forth two
worlds. There's the world of God's elect,
for God so loved the world. The world of His elect, and then
there's the whole world that lieth in wickedness. That's the
non-elect. And the world of the non-elect,
Satan just goes on deceiving them. But he's cast out. Where is he cast out to? The
earth. The earth. And His angels were
cast out with Him. That's what our Lord Jesus did. This is the glory, one of the
glorious things about His redemptive work. He, on the basis of redemption,
on the basis of His life, laid down. He was given all authority
and all power when he got back to glory and apparently the very
first thing he did was send the devil and all of his demonic
hosts out of heaven. You can't come back here anymore.
Isn't that wonderful? You say, well, doesn't Satan
appear before God to charge us with sin? There is no sin with
which to charge us. Who shall lay anything to the
charge of God's elect? Therefore, look at verse 10,
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation. Hold that place right there,
and that word now, and look over at John chapter 12. I'll show
you, here's a parallel passage to this. Look at John chapter 12. Our
Lord Jesus speaking here just a very few days before his death. John chapter 12 and verse 31. He says, now is the judgment
of this world. Now shall the prince of this
world be, what does it say? Cast out. Cast out. Well, when did that happen? Keep
on reading. And I, if I be lifted up from
the earth, will draw all men unto me, this he said signifying
what death he should die. So when we get back over here
to Revelation chapter 12, and it says there was war in heaven,
don't think about a lengthy war. No, this wasn't a lengthy war. Our Lord Jesus Christ went back
and immediately the war was over. Because he won. There's never
a struggle between the Lord and the devil. There's never a kind
of a close encounter. He edges out the victory against
the evil one. That's not the way it was. Satan
was defeated by the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. And that's
good news for us because he's the one who defeated us. He defeated
us. Look what He did to our mother
Eve. How He deceived her. How He lied
to her. And He's a liar. He's the father
of the lie. The lie. But He's been overcome. He's been defeated. The enemy
of your soul has been beaten by King Jesus. And he sent him out of heaven.
And so, back there in John 12, now, now, this, when that happened,
now, he said. Now go back here to Revelation
chapter 12, verse number 10, and I heard a loud voice saying
in heaven, now has come salvation. Salvation has come. Listen, salvation's
not an effort. Salvation is not an opportunity.
Salvation is not an offer. Salvation has been accomplished.
You see, that's the good news of the Gospel. It has been accomplished. It's already been finished. Now,
when Christ died. Salvation is never presented
as, well, it's a possibility you'll be saved. No. No. It's declared to be a thing that
God the Son has already finished. His resurrection, His ascension,
His exaltation, they all declare that He's finished the work of
salvation. Now has come salvation and strength
and the kingdom of our God and the power of His Christ for the
accuser of our brethren is... What is it? He's cast down. which
accused them before God day and night. Day and night. That was before the death of
our Lord Jesus Christ. And they overcame Him the same
way we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of
their testimony. What is the word of their testimony?
The Gospel. The Gospel. and they love not
their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, rejoice ye
heavens and ye that dwell in them, but wait a minute, woe,
woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea, for the devil
has come down. He's come down unto you in great
wrath because he knows He's only got a short time. You see, though
he is defeated, his rage is not diminished. His rage is not diminished. He goes about seeking whom he
may devour. And when the dragon saw that
he was cast into the earth, he did the only thing he can do.
And he's still doing it. persecuting the woman who brought
forth the man-child. And remember, John is writing in a time, in an age, when churches
were being severely persecuted, preachers were being killed,
fathers, dads, husbands being jerked out of homes, martyred,
slaughtered for the cause of Christ Jesus. because they loved the man-child
and preached the man-child. We've been going through briefly
the lives of the twelve apostles. One of them was a devil, of course,
but the other eleven, ten of those men were martyred for the
cause of Christ Jesus. John alone escaped the death
by martyrdom, though they tried to kill him. You see, Satan,
he's been cast out of heaven down to the earth and he's persecuting
the woman that brought forth the man-child. But you know,
God has provisions for his people. And to the woman were given two
wings of a great eagle. that she might fly into the wilderness,
into her place, where she is nourished for a time and times
and half a time from the face of the serpent. Same amount of
times said earlier in this three and a half years. She soars on two wings of a great
eagle. I think the two wings are faith
and hope. Faith and hope. as we look to
our beloved Savior and we rest in Him, we trust Him to take
care of us during this life. Faith and a hope. What is hope? Of course, faith is believing
God, believing the Word of God. Hope is a confident expectation
of future blessings based on the certainty of the Word of
God. And I'll tell you, we soar on
eagle's wings as it says over in Isaiah 40, 31. We soar as
we believe God and rest in His promises. But in verse 15, the
serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman
that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. What
is this flood? It's a flood of heresy. It's
the flood of heresy. Because his goal is to try to
deceive even the very elect. It can't be done. The earth will
soak up, will soak up the flood. Oh, his followers, the non-elect,
those who are not the people of God, they'll drink the Kool-Aid. Jim Jones, reading about that
down in South America, led a bunch of people to commit suicide,
gave them flavor aid laced with cyanide. It wasn't Kool-Aid,
but ever since then, it's kind of become a byword. Don't drink
the Kool-Aid. Don't drink the Kool-Aid. A multitude
drank Satan's Kool-Aid. Salvation by works. Salvation
by decisionism. Salvation by something you do.
But the elect won't drink it. The elect won't drink it. We
have tasted something far better. The wine of the gospel. The richness
of the wine. The glory of the wine. Of salvation
by blood redemption. He can't destroy the woman. But
he sure can make life difficult according to the purpose of God.
But it says in verse 16, the earth helped the woman, drinking
up the heresy, swallowing up the flood which the dragon cast
out of his mouth. And the dragon was wroth with
the woman. That which Satan despises. The great red dragon, that which
he has always despised is salvation by grace. He despised it from
the beginning. He despised it when our Lord
Jesus was here. He still despises this. He's
wroth with the woman. Wherever men and women meet together
and exalt Christ Jesus and His blood redemption, Satan is wroth
with us. He's angry with us. But bless
the name of God, greater is He that is for us than he that is
in the world. He went to make war with the
remnant of her seed, watch this, which keep the commandments of
God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. We have been given
the gospel. We have the testimony of Jesus
Christ. And we keep the commandments
of God to go into all the world and preach the gospel. That's
what he tells us to do. Now, Satan's not happy about
it. But that's okay. He's been defeated. He's been
cast out of heaven. Oh, glory to our Savior. There's
nobody in heaven accusing us of anything. Nobody. Not a demon, not the devil himself. Our Lord Jesus took care of him.
I'll give you one more reference. Genesis chapter 3. Let's go all
the way back to the beginning. Read Genesis chapter 3 and verse
15. Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. And I'll close with this. God says, and He says this unto
the serpent. I know that because of verse
14. He's already said something to the woman, and He said something,
or there's been a conversation between the Lord and the fallen
pair, briefly. But now, we get down here to
verse 14, And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou
hast done this, Thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every
beast of the field. Upon thy belly shalt thou go,
and dust shalt thou eat. Thou eat all the days of thy
life, and I will put enmity, the word put, I will appoint,
I will fix, I will set enmity between thee and the woman. Who's the woman? That's the church. That's the church. And between
thy seed and her seed, who is the seed
of the woman? The man-child. The man-child. And the man-child shall bruise
thy head. Oh, what a blow it was. A devastating
blow he received at the cross. and thou shalt bruise his heel."
And the woman, the people of God, to this day we're harassed
by Satan, we're hounded by Satan, we listen to the voices that
are speaking the message of Satan, but he He cannot, though He throws
fiery darts of temptation our way, He can't destroy us. And we overcome Him the same
way the saints of God have overcome Him throughout the ages, by the
blood of the Lamb. That's how we overcome. We're
a victorious church. through Christ Jesus, our Lord. This is the one who paid it all
for us. Jesus paid it all. 125. 125.
