Who Is In The Way?

Genesis 45

What does the Bible say about God's sovereignty and human responsibility?

The Bible teaches that God is absolutely sovereign, yet He commands humans to act, as highlighted in Joseph's admonition to his brothers.

Scripture affirms God's sovereignty over all creation, including the affairs of humanity (Genesis 45). Joseph's directive to his brothers to 'haste' and return to him illustrates that human actions are not in conflict with divine ordination. While God predestines events, He still commands men to respond to Him, making their actions significant in His divine plan. This interplay between divine sovereignty and human responsibility is a recurring theme throughout the Bible.

Genesis 45

How do we know we are among the elect?

We can know we are among the elect through our belief in Jesus Christ and the transformative power of the Gospel in our lives.

The Apostle Paul provides clarity on how we might know we are among the elect. In 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5, he states, 'Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God; for our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost.' This indicates that genuine belief in Christ, accompanied by a transformative experience of the Gospel, assures believers of their election. It's important not to rest on the doctrine of election alone, but rather to trust in Christ and observe the evidence of the Holy Spirit working within us as a sign of God's choosing.

1 Thessalonians 1:4-5

Why is perseverance important for Christians?

Perseverance is vital for Christians as it demonstrates genuine faith and is necessary for salvation.

Perseverance in faith is an essential doctrine rooted in the teachings of Christ and the Apostles. Jesus said in Matthew 24:13, 'He that endureth unto the end, the same shall be saved,' emphasizing that true salvation is evidenced by endurance in faith. Similarly, Paul teaches in Colossians 1:21-23 that we must continue in the faith to be reconciled to God. This highlights that while salvation is by grace through faith, true faith manifests itself in perseverance. It's a clear indication of the work God has done in the believer's life, affirming their place in Christ amidst trials and tribulations.

If you wish to follow along this
morning, turn to Genesis chapter 45. Genesis chapter 45. Before I
begin reading in verse nine, let me reemphasize this. Remember, Joseph has now revealed
himself to his brothers. But that's not the culmination
of it all. Joseph did not reveal himself to his brothers and send
them back to Canaan. This is what he says, Hebrews. Genesis chapter 45 and verse
nine. He says these words. Haste ye,
go up to my father and say unto him, thus saith thy son Joseph,
God hath made me Lord of all Egypt. Come down to me. Carry not. Thou shalt dwell in
the land of Goshen. Thou shalt be near unto me, thou
and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and
thy herds, and all that thou hast. And there, notice what
he said, and there will I nourish thee. For yet there are five
years of famine, blest thou and thy household, and all that thou
hast come to poverty. I'm going to read on, but let
me stop and just mention this. There are those who say, If God's
absolutely sovereign and has predestinated all things, then
to command men to do what God's already ordained for them to
do is useless language. And I say these people are dead
wrong. Because God's word is full of
it. God had already prophesied to Abraham that his descendants
would go down into Egypt and dwell there for over 400 years. Let's move on. And behold, your
eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is
my mouth that speaketh unto you. And ye shall tell my father of
all my glory in Egypt, and all that ye have seen, and ye shall
haste. You see that? And ye shall haste,
and bring down my father hither. And then Joseph, or it concludes
with this, as you'll see in verse 24. So he sent his brethren away,
and they departed. And he said unto them, see these
words. And he said unto them, see that
ye fall not out by the way. Clearly, when this took place,
Joseph was admonishing his brethren to come to him where he is. And then in the end, he says
these words. See that ye fall not out By the
way. In other words, he's saying,
see it to the end. Don't dilly dally around. Stay
the course. Persevere to the goal. Get back
to me. Isn't that what he's saying?
Get back to me. Now I wonder, why did Joseph
say this? I know why Joseph said this,
and it doesn't tell us here in the context, but I know why Joseph
said this. because Joseph understood what
was in the heart of the sons and daughters of Adam. That we
will use any excuse upon the face of the earth to go our own
way and not the way of the Lord. Now he gives no particular details
and I have my own thoughts about why he gives no particular details
as to what might hinder them in the way. to where he gives
them this admonition, see that you fall not out, by the way. And one of the reasons, at least
I feel, that we're not given any particulars is because we
will be prone to say, well, that's not my particular, so it doesn't
apply to me. Well, that's not happening to
me, so this command don't apply to me. But think of it, in the
end, he still admonishes them, see it to the end. Stay the course,
persevere to the goal. Go back, get my father, get everything
that you have there and bring it back to me. We have New Testament
sister passages of this. in Christ concerning his gospel.
Our Lord said these words, and I'm not going into the details
of it, but he said these words. He that endureth unto the end,
the same shall be saved. And the whole implication is
this, and no one else. And no one else. Now I know religion,
that which calls itself Christianity, actually twists those words because
what they are teaching is you must be enduring at the end,
whether it's the end of your physical life or at the end of
the world when the resurrection takes place. That's not what
Christ said. He said, he that endureth unto
the end, the same shall be saved. The apostle Paul said, reconciliation
is true of us. This is what he said. Jesus Christ
reconciled us to God if we continue in the faith. Isn't that what
it says? Colossians chapter one, you can
go back and read it yourself. Verses 21, 22, 23. You see, redemption,
salvation, whatever word you want to use or words you want
to use to describe the glories of God in Jesus Christ, it is
only unto those that endure unto the end. Hebrews chapter 11 put
it this way and it speaks of all of it. It says, and these
all died in faith. In faith. Again, why such an
admonition? Why such an admonition from Joseph
to them then? Why such admonitions to us today? Here's why. Because unbelief
in us is a horrid, horrid monster. Unbelief is a horrid monster
in all the sons and daughters of Adam. What I'm trying to say
right here is this, do not confuse a God-wrought belief in a man
or a woman with unbelief. You're believing, now I know
I've said this different before, but I'm gonna say it correctly
now. You're believing is as perfect as the resurrection power of
God in Christ Jesus. Because we believe according
to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ
when he raised him from the dead. You're believing is not faulty.
Now it's not absolute, but it's not faulty. Just like a baby
is an absolute human being, but it's not all that I am today.
Do you understand? Your believing is pure and right
because it's a God wrought thing in you. What I'm saying is we
need to call the faulty what it is, not faulty belief, but
unbelief. That one man cried, Lord, I believe,
and he did. Then he didn't say, well, Lord,
help my faith. failing belief were my fault. No, Lord, I believe
help thou my unbelief. You see, Joseph knew his brethren. I mean, he really knew. Just
go back to the context. Joseph really knew his brethren.
He was the one that they had done these very dastardly deeds
against. He knew the propensity, the absolute
bent of human nature to fall out of the way. He knew it. Therefore he gave them admonition. And God Almighty admonishes us
today. Unbelief can be forthright. Unbelief can be forthright. It
can say, I do not believe. Unbelief can be forthright. It
can say, it may well say, I do not believe. You ever told someone
a truth of scripture? Just quote them the scripture,
and they say, I don't believe that. I don't believe that. They usually try to hedge it
about by saying, I don't believe it the way you said it, but sometimes
you just quote the scripture, and they still say, I don't believe
that. But unbelief is also sly. Unbelief
is also slick. Unbelief, I'm not talking about
false preachers, they're that too. I'm talking about the unbelief
that dwells, still dwells in my own soul, uses slight and
cunning craftiness like the old shell game. Unbelief will do this. When there's
a clear command given by God in the scripture, unbelief will
do this. But what about this Bible verse?
Do you understand what I'm saying? Brothers, go back to Canaan. Gather everything up, including
my very old blind father. That was a hard trip for that
old man. but you gather up my father and you make haste and
you get back down here to me. Now it doesn't say that the brothers
thought this, but I know I thought this when I read this. Okay,
I know I thought this when I read this. Think about it. Consider
this. Joseph, there's only five more
years of famine. Yes or no? There's only five
more years of famine. Has not God provided for us in
Canaan thus far? Has not God given us, granted
we had to come all the way to Egypt, but you gave us all this
bounty and sent us back to the land of Canaan for two years.
It's just five more years, Mason. I thought about this when I read
this. There's another thing. Cainan is our father's, plural,
promise. Yes, sir. The God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob had promised us this land. Yes, sir. Yes or no? Yes, sir. What about God's promise? You
never, unbelief always questions God's truth, but sometimes it's
slick, it'll use other truth trying to throw a question mark
on the present truth. You hear what I'm saying? I have
something for you this morning. I just hope God has something
for us this morning. But it's Canaan, it's the promised
land. And it was so much so that before
Jacob died, what did he tell his descendants? You don't bury
me here in Egypt. Isn't that what he said? Hebrews
lets us know this was an act of faith. He said, you preserve
me, you embalm me, and you take me at my body back to the land
of Canaan when God Almighty brings you out of here. Isn't that what
he said? And yet Jacob, being as old as
he was and blind, moves out with his sons and heads down into
Egypt. Why? Because the son had commanded
it. You see it? Because the Son had
commanded. What about God's promise? God's
promise is being carried out exactly as God Almighty ordained
for it to be carried out. And human intellectualism and
human reason and human deduction does not play in the part. God's
working this thing out. It's not up for us to figure
out how and why. Just do what God says to do. And the good old Calvinist said,
well, I don't like doing, I believe in grace. You have been fooled. You have been fooled. You have
deceived yourself because grace not only encourages doing, grace
enables doing. As a matter of fact, grace, the
grace of God Almighty includes even the good works of God's
people. For by grace are you saved through
faith, and that's Calvinist. Say amen, and rightfully so,
right? For by grace are you saved through
faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of
works, lest any man should boast, for we are his workmanship, created
God's not dependent upon our help created in Christ Jesus,
but what's the next two words? Or three words, I'm sorry. Unto
good works. Amen. Amen. Which God hath before
ordained that we should not just think about them, like them,
but do them, walk in them. Amen. Walk in them. That's right.
Yes. Yes. Joseph. Christ. Christ, you've provided, but
really, must we make haste? It's just, think about it, it's
just five more years. You've already got up the grain
laid up. We'll just come back every year
to Egypt and go back to the promised land, right? That's what I thought
when I began to read that. Do you see where I'm coming at
this from now? But that's unbelief. Yes, it was God's promised land.
It was their land, God gave it to them. But when God says do
this, you do this. And you never play one command
of God over against any other command of God. Here's a pertinent
thought. Since one must continue in the
way, is it not first paramount that I am in the way? You see
what I'm saying? I thought about that too. Is
it not paramount? If one must continue in the way,
it must first be paramount that I'm in the way to start with.
You can't fall out of that which you've never been in. You know, just like you can't
ever go back to some place you haven't already been. So it's
pertinent that you and I consider this. What is the way? and am I in it from the start?
There's the question. There's the question. Now here
is my title and subject for this morning. Who is in the way? Isn't that what he says? So he
sent his brethren away and they departed. And the last words
were these, see that you fall not out by the way. I want us to consider four things. One, about back then, and three,
about now. And there's a whole lot more
than the three I'll give you about now, but I must, I must make
this short. We don't have all day today.
Who is in the way? Think about this. There are Israelites
in Canaan. Jacob is still there, correct? Look back, and I'm sure Abraham
passed on to Isaac, and I'm sure Isaac passed on to Jacob, and
I'm sure Jacob passed on to his sons about what happened to Abraham
when he went down into Egypt. You remember? He fell into a
lot of difficulties when he went down into Egypt. Why? Because
of what? Famine. Famine. There are Israelites
in Canaan. But Joseph, this don't make sense. Just save us there. You've already
done it for two years. But this is rank unbelief. And unbelief usually shows its
ugly head in this respect. I gotta put out some effort. Oh, we love grace. Let me sit
on my backside and just let God pour it all in on me. Yeah, let
me just sit on my backside and God, you just make it fall out
of heaven like the rain and soak me in your blessings and then
one day I get to wake up and go to heaven too. Ain't this
great? It's not the way it works. God will stir your nest just
about every time you get settled in something. You hear what I
said? God, if you're one of his, now
if you're not one of his, he may let you go on and everything's
just fine, you got a good job, good spouse, decent children,
your bills ain't too overwhelming, and things just go on and go
on until you die in that unbelieving state and you perish. But if
you're one of God's, he gonna shake your nest every little
bit. because he's not gonna let us get comfortable with the things
of this world because we usually interpret, we always do in unbelief,
we usually interpret the promises of God based upon natural happenings
and how comfortable we feel in this world. Somebody says, I
got a great job the other day. I'm glad, I thank God for it.
You oughta thank God for it, but he may take it from you tomorrow.
He may take it from you tomorrow. Why? Because it's actually his.
Thank God for that boss who gave you the job, but remember, God
Almighty moved that boss to give you that job. So if that's the
first thing, consider about it. There are Israelites in Canaan.
Remember, all their kids were there. Bunches of, how many was
it, 70? Am I wrong? I may be wrong on
that number. They come out of Canaan, come
down into Egypt. There's a bunch of little, this
is a long, hard trip. This don't make sense, Joseph.
I can see me thinking that. I've got to gather up all my
little ones and all my flocks, go through this dangerous journey
to come all the way to Goshen. You done took care of us for
two years. There's only five more to go.
Joseph, it'll be okay. Don't panic, Joseph. Do you see
how unbelief could react? Think about this, though. Now
listen to me. And I say this, I'm not being
condemnatory, but I am making a judgment. Do you know the difference? I'm
not being condemnatory, but I am making a judgment. There are
people that I know that they think that their unbelief is
actually belief. But when you see it manifested,
it's usually playing one command over against another. It's usually
playing a promise of God over against another. And usually
what it's playing it against is the command where God says,
get up off your backside and do this. What about this? Well, I just
trust that I'm one of the elect. I've heard people, I don't have
too many people Tell me that. Not too many people ask me questions.
Sadly, they call my wife and badger her with the questions.
They ain't got the nerve to call me. That's just a fact. Yes or no, is that not right,
Penny June? They want to call her and fuss at her about what
I preached. She didn't preach it. I'm the one preaching it,
but that's the way it goes. That's kind of the way it goes.
But I trust I'm one of the elect. Turn with me to 1 Thessalonians.
Upon what basis do you have any reason to think you're one of
the elect? Isn't that a valid question?
Now I know not everyone believes in the election, but the election
of Gracie is true, and I'm not here to argue that. It's true. It's true. But listen, we don't
trust in the election. We trust in Jesus Christ. in
whom we have been elected. So how do I know I'm one of the
elect? There's only one place in the
Bible where it actually tells us you can know that. I mean,
it actually says it. Now, there are other passages
that give us information that by its fundamental facts and
truth, Mason, will let you know this is one of the elect. So
before I even go there, let me think. Somebody says, well, prayer.
Prayer don't save you. No, prayer don't save you. But
I know our Lord said this and he's smarter than I am and he's
more wise than I am. He said two men went up to the
temple to do what? Pray. Both of them prayed. One was justified and the other
wasn't. Now the prayer itself didn't justify but bless God
prayer was a part of it. Do you see what I'm saying? Why
I don't believe prayer has anything to do with anything. Well you
just deceived yourself. because that old publican smoked
upon his breast, and I agree with the only preacher. I think
he was smiting upon what he knew was the problem, me right in
here. Wouldn't even lift his eyes to heaven and said, God,
propitiate me. God, you gotta step into the
gap for me. God, you've got to do this thing for me. God, you've
got to do this thing with me. God, you've got to make me do
it. God, be merciful to me, the sinner, and he prayed that. So
Joe, it was a part of his salvation. Prayer itself didn't save you,
but bless God, you will pray sometime or another. You will
cry out to God for mercy sometime or another. And our Lord Jesus
Christ said that man went down to his house justified. So it's okay to pray. It's not
self-righteous to pray. Just don't pray like the Pharisee
prayed, because that's a self-righteous prayer. And you say, so where
was I at all? I just trusted, I know there's
an election and I just trust I'm one of the elect. You're
playing one truth against another. Your unbelief is latched on to
a doctrine and you're resting by unbelief in a doctrine rather
than obeying the command of God. How do you know you're one of
the elect? Paul tells these people here, 1 Thessalonians 1 verse
4, knowing brethren beloved, your election of God. Now that's
about as clear as you can state it, is it not? Paul said I know
you're one of the elect. Now of course when he went up
to heaven, remember he said he knew, I think it was Paul, he
said I knew one that's caught up into the third heaven, seeing
things that I can't even relate to you in words now. Mason, it
wasn't because God opened up the Lamb's Book of Life and let
him read who all the names were there. That's why I know you're
one of the elect. That ain't what it says, is it?
Now I'm gonna give you a few things and show you what I'm
giving you is coming from this book. How can you know you're
actually loved of God? How can you know you're one of
the elect? Why? Because the gospel will
come to you not just as a message. But it will come and it will
rock your world. The gospel will get a hold of
you and will not let you go through the power of the spirit of God. Knowing, brethren beloved, your
election of God for, so here's one of the reasons, is it not?
For our gospel came not to you in word only. Now it will come
in word. God's not gonna come and preach you the gospel himself.
He ain't gonna do it. It just don't happen. For our
gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and
in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as you know what manner
of men we were among you for your sake. I came and just preached
Christ to you. Because Christ is the gospel.
Christ is the gospel. And here's another way you know
you're one of the elect. And this always amazed me. I
can't yet explain it the way I know it ought to be explained. And you became followers of us. That's amazing. And of the Lord.
You see, God, if this gospel ever comes to you in more than
word only, you're gonna wanna join up with God's people and
bless God, that's just the way it is. That's just the way it
is. You don't have to go to church
to be saved. No, you don't. It's like you don't have to pray
to be saved. But bless God, if God saves you, you go pray. And
bless God, if this gospel gets a hold of you, you're gonna say,
I gotta be around that gospel. And there's other people like
me that that gospel's did the same thing for, and I'm comforted
when I'm around them. Because if you're not, then it's
never happened to you, and you can't trust in the election. And ye became followers of us,
and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction.
This gospel is good news, but it'll rip your righteousness
right out from under you. This gospel will tear you down
and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. You'll see both there, in much
affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost. That's not whee, I got
the Holy Ghost. This is talking about the truth
of Jesus Christ will rejoice your soul. And I tell you what, it's gonna
spill out on you. Or all you said, it's gonna leak
out on you. So that, here's another, so that
ye were in samples. Now not examples, not the perfect
thing, but it's an in sample, so that ye were in samples to
all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. In other words, it's
gonna bleed out on you. Now, these other believers knew what
was bleeding out on them. The unbelieving world won't understand
what's bleeding out on you, but they're gonna know something's
different about that person. If you're around them very long
at all, the people you work with, they're gonna know something's
different about them. If it happens, if you meet them and you're lost,
and God Almighty saves you, they're gonna know something happened
to them. I don't know what it was. Must have had a spasm or
something. But bless God when this gospel
gets a hold of you. As I said, it rocks your world. You can never be the same again,
although you're all that you was to start with. Although you're
still all that you was to start with. Then he says, goes on, for from
you sounded out the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and
Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith, the God word, is
spread abroad. Paul said, I don't have to say
anything. bleeding out on you. For they themselves shew of us
what mannering of entering in we had unto you. And here it
is, how you turned to God from idols. You're going to begin
to realize this, God's the most important thing in this world.
Everything else takes at least here, if not way down here. He's on top of everything. And
the rest of it can go or stay. But I got to have God. You see
it? I got to have God. Everything
else, God rip it from my hands. If it doesn't, if it isn't for
the benefit of my soul. And sometimes that'll be the
very people you care the most about. And sometimes it won't. Sometimes God may save them too.
But that's his business. for they themselves show of us
what manner of entering in we have into you, how you turn to
God from idols to serve the true and living God, and what else?
You're waiting for Jesus Christ to come back. You see that? That's why you don't fall out,
because every day, Mack, in some way or another, I'm reminded
my Lord sits in glory now, and one of these days he's coming
back. I have never forgotten that. I haven't always remembered
it, but I haven't forgotten it. Now, if you can relate to that,
what I'm saying. It's not always in the forefront
of my mind, but it never leaves my mind altogether. It can't,
why? The first that this gospel got
a hold of me, and it's been different ever since. Don't trust in the
election, trust Christ. Don't trust that you're in the
promised land. Run to Joseph. You see it? Gather it all up, everything,
and bring it to Joseph, because if you don't, I don't care what
you claim about promises and everything, you're gonna starve
to death. You're gonna starve to death. Well, here's another
one. Well, I just believe I'm born of God. Upon what basis
do you believe you're born of God? John puts it this way, 1
John 5 verse one. Whosoever believeth that Jesus
is the Christ is born of God. Now the Greek is clear. The English
shows it, but the Greek is even more clear than the English.
The birth of God must come before you believe. But you have no
right to think you're born of God till you believe. Because
whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. You see, if you could convince
a man that regeneration must take place first, you've just
convinced a man of a doctrine. But if that man or woman can
be convinced that Jesus is the Christ of God, and they believe
it, they are born of God. You see it? So let's not argue
about all that happens between, do you believe that Jesus is
the Christ? There's the kicker. There, well,
they're so tore up about their sin. I just spoke with someone
not a week or so ago that knows they're a sinner. They're an
old sinner from way back, if you know what I mean. But I don't
know whether they truly believe that Jesus is the Christ. You
see, it's not, oh boy, I'm a wretched person. Well, of course, I'm
glad you see that much. But a lot of people then just
rest, well, I believe that's regenerate, no, but it's believing
that Jesus is the Christ. God regenerates you in order
that you might see and enter the kingdom of God. And the new
birth includes both regeneration and conversion. Now he includes
both. It is the new birth, the whole
thing. Well, I just believe I'm regenerated.
If you believe that Jesus is the Christ, I mean, you really
believe that Jesus is the Christ, I got to make haste to get to
Joseph. Do you believe that? Then you're
born of God. Then you're born of God. What about this one, briefly?
Well, I just believe I'm saved. Based on what? I'm saved, I was
baptized. Well, let me tell you something.
The book says baptism which doth also now save us. Does it say
that or not? It certainly does. And I'm not
even gonna try to explain that. I'm just here to declare that.
The book also says we're saved by Christ. It also says we're
saved by grace. It also says we're saved by faith.
It also says we're saved by blood. It also said God did save us,
is saving us, and shall yet save us. But don't play one thing
against another. Don't try to pick out one thing
you want and despise the other. That's called unbelief. Unbelief. This book would be clear in teaching
us that our salvation is eternal. Look at 2 Timothy 1 verse 9.
Hath saved us and called us. Basically he saved me before
he even called me. But yet then the same Paul says, the same
Paul says, he saves us, we're called by the preaching of the
gospel. So be careful. Most unbelievers
say, well I would prefer one or the other. I prefer one or
the other. Preacher, you say an awful lot
about this preaching the gospel and men being saved by that.
I just believe we're saved by God. You talk about coming to
Christ, coming to Christ. I believe Christ has a sheep
and when one's lost, he goes out and gets it, lays it on his
shoulder, brings it all the way home. I believe that too. I believe
that too. But you know what else? Our Lord,
when he taught that very truth, gave one parable. He said, and
this parable singular, he spoke of that. He talked about a lost
sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son. And they're all three the
same person. He said, the one lost sheep,
the one lost coin, and the one lost son, Joe, are all the same
person. Jesus does all the work, and yet it says that when the
son comes to himself, I'm gonna get up and get back to the father. The sheep's lost because the
sheep's careless. That's what sheep do, get lost.
Stick their head to the grass and go wherever they want to
go. Next thing you know, it's whoa, where am I? They can't
find themselves. But let me tell you something
too. God Almighty also will show you you're lost. And you've wasted
all your substance on righteous living, even if it's religious
living. And you're gonna say, I will rise and go to the Father.
And also, here's a coin that's lost. That lets me know that
the coin Didn't start the lostness. A coin don't lose itself. You
don't get out your wallet a dollar bill, decide it's gonna jump
out and run and hide somewhere. Somebody was negligent and the
coin got lost, yes or no? But the lost sheep, the lost
coin, the lost son were all just as lost. That one parable teaches
us the whole plethora. Does it not, Mason? Does it not,
Jack? Yes, he's gonna come and get you, lay you on his shoulders. He's gonna take you all the way
home, and he's gonna say, rejoice with me, because I found my sheep.
At the same time, the sheep's gonna be said, let's go home.
Let's go home. Be hanging there on the shoulders,
being held by the good shepherd, and just begging for home, Joe. I will arise and go to the Father. bows to the truth of God as a
whole. Even when it can't understand
how it all fits together. Sometimes it may get a little
glimpse of that, sometimes it don't. But faith says if Joseph
says come to Egypt, bless God, I'm going back to Canaan, I'm
gathering it all up, I'm going back to Egypt. Do you see what
I'm trying to say this morning? Hmm. Can being Israelite, being
in Canaan be used against coming to Joseph in Egypt? Never. Never. Canaan was the promised
land, but you don't play one promise of God against another.
That's not belief, that's unbelief. So in closing, what did Joseph
say? Haste. Get up there. Grab it all. Bring it back to
me. You know what I said? I'm telling
you, bring even your sins to Christ. He's already aware of
them. He bore them in his own body
on the tree. Bring your sins, bring it all
to him. Bring your kids to him. Bring your spouse to him. Bring
your job to him. Bring it all to him. Bring it
all to him. Lay it all down at his feet and
say, now you feed me. Now you feed me. Where is Christ
now? It says he is seated. That means
he's accomplished the work. He's just there to make sure
the end goal gets reached, or is reached. He's seated, he's
reigning. He's reigning. He's interceding. And you know, Romans five is
clear. If he's interceding for you,
that means he died for you. If he died for you, he's interceding
for you. And if he intercedes for you, you cannot ever perish. And you know what, he's gonna
give you a little idea about it. He gonna force you lovingly,
knowingly, willingly to run to Christ. To run to Christ. That's where they seated, reigning,
interceding, he's coming again. And you know what, I wish he'd
do that right now today before we even get to take this table
one more time. But that's his business. Mac,
I can't do not a thing in this world about that other than what,
wait. Wait, it doesn't say pray for him to come right now, though
we cry, even so come. Lord Jesus. Mason, we can't make
it happen. There is a set time when he's
gonna come, and he shall not be hindered in that way. So what
do we do? We just wait. Wait. We come,
think about it. We come to him where he is. We come to him where he is. Yes?
Preacher, I just don't understand all that. He's supposed to come
and get me, he does. He will. As a matter of fact,
Joseph was saving his brethren even before his brethren even
knew who he was. You know? God was using Joseph
to save his brethren even when his brethren were putting him
in a hole. You know what I'm saying? But that doesn't diminish
the fact that when Joseph said, get up, go back, gather it all,
come to me. You're either gonna do that or
you're gonna starve to death. Yes or no? Yes or no? And you know what? Old Jacob
heard about that, and you could tell it troubled him a little.
I just figured, Mason, I just figured he knew some of the old
accounts of his daddy, about his granddaddy Abraham. And God
comes to Jacob, and what did he say? It's okay, Jacob, head
on down. Did you read the rest of that?
It's okay, Jacob, head on down. I don't like that, don't you?
Father, as we partake of this bread and wine, God may it be
that we truly remember your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
