Pastor Kent Clark’s interview emphasizes the Reformed doctrine of salvation by grace through faith, focusing on personal conversion and the transformative power of Christ. He recounts his salvation experience at the young age of eight, highlighting his early awareness of sin and the pivotal moment when he truly trusted in Christ for salvation. The interview discusses the essential elements of conversion, underscoring the importance of recognizing one’s sinnership and reliance on Christ’s atonement, supported by scriptural references like 1 Timothy 1:15, which affirms that Christ came to save sinners. The practical significance of this testimony reinforces the doctrine of total depravity and the necessity of grace, encouraging listeners to trust fully in Christ’s redemptive work.

Key Quotes

“Quit trying and trust Christ.”

“In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, I trusted Christ and the peace and joy of God flooded my soul.”

What does the Bible say about salvation?

The Bible teaches that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

According to Scripture, salvation is offered to those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Ephesians 2:8-9 states that it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. This emphasizes that salvation is entirely a result of God's grace and not based on human merit. Furthermore, Romans 10:13 affirms that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, showcasing the inclusivity of God's offer of salvation.

How do we know election is true?

The doctrine of election is supported through various biblical teachings that affirm God chooses His people.

The doctrine of election asserts that God, in His sovereignty, chooses certain individuals to be saved. Ephesians 1:4-5 reveals that God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, highlighting the pre-temporal nature of His choice based on His grace and purpose. Additionally, Romans 8:29-30 teaches that those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, reinforcing that election is grounded in God’s initiative and plan. Therefore, the truth of election is rooted in the clear testimony of Scripture that God actively chooses individuals for salvation according to His will.

Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:29-30

Why is the doctrine of sin important for Christians?

Understanding sin is crucial for recognizing our need for salvation through Christ.

The doctrine of sin is vital within Christian theology because it frames the reality of human nature and the need for redemption. Romans 3:23 states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, emphasizing that sin affects everyone and separates us from God. Recognizing our own sinfulness leads to an understanding of God's holiness and the dire need for a Savior, which is precisely what Jesus Christ offers. As such, the acknowledgment of sin is the starting point for genuine faith and repentance, helping believers appreciate the grace found in the gospel and the profound love of Christ who died for our sins.

Well, I've got a special treat
today because our guest is actually a very dear friend of mine, and
I have to let you in on a little secret. I did not know who the
guest was going to be today. and found out it's my dear friend,
Pastor Ken Clark, from the Grace Center of Pennsylvania. I am so thrilled and honored
to be here today, and that God in His providence brought us
together in this way, and neither of us actually knew that we were
going to be meeting here today. And yet we'll meet here and talk
about the men of grace, these awesome, anointed men who sing
and praise God and the incredible story of where they came from.
And I want to talk about the obvious, and I know you probably
get teased about this, but your name, Ken Clark, Clark Kent backwards,
I mean, is the name of Superman. That's true, and in every way
I am opposite from Superman. Except you have been created
to be a Superman in the Lord Jesus Christ. I can do all things
through Christ that strengthen us. That makes you super. I want
to talk a bit about the Grace Centers of Hope. But first of
all, how you came even to be a pastor at a very young age. You were saved. I was saved at
the age of eight years old. And it was a real encounter with
the Lord Jesus Christ. Very early on, I realized my
sinnership. Actually, I think there are some
little adults. I was one of those. At four years
old, I think I had a consciousness that I was a sinner. And the
wonderful truth is that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners. And as I grew, four years later,
after that encounter of knowing my sinnership, Under great condemnation
for my sin, my dad was witnessing to me, telling me that Jesus
Christ was the Savior and Lord, and that I was simply to trust
Him. And I said to my dad, Actually, he tricked me. He got
me downstairs in the basement of our house to play ping pong. I thought I was going to play
ping pong with him. And he said, son, and as soon
as he said son, I knew we were going to talk about Christ. And
I laid the paddle down and he said, do you realize you're lost
and without God? And we began to talk about it.
And he told me to trust Christ. And I would say things like,
I'm trying, Dad. And he would say, quit trying
and trust Christ. And we prayed actually three
times. He prayed and he asked me to
ask the Lord to save me while he prayed. And I did. The last
time he prayed, he said something like this. Lord, if you can get
more glory out of damning Kent than saving him, thy will be
done. And it was at that point that
I cried out, Oh no! And in a moment, in a twinkling
of an eye, I trusted Christ and the peace and joy of God flooded
my soul eight years of it.
