The sermon titled "The Revelation of God's Word" by Don Bell centers on the foundational Reformed doctrine of Scripture's efficacy and authority as revealed in Psalm 19. The preacher emphasizes that while God's creation reflects His glory, true revelation and salvation come only through His Word. He explicates several attributes of Scripture, asserting that it is perfect, sure, right, pure, and enduring forever, using verses 7-9 from Psalm 19 to illustrate these qualities. Specifically, Bell highlights that Scripture converts the soul, provides wisdom, and enriches the believer's life, thereby having significant doctrinal implications for understanding salvation and divine revelation. He asserts the necessity of valuing God's Word above earthly treasures, illustrating its transformative power and role in providing both warning and reward to believers as they seek to live in accordance with God's will.

Key Quotes

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”

“More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”

“The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

“God's Word has done for us things that nothing in this world could ever possibly do.”

What does the Bible say about the importance of God's Word?

The Bible describes God's Word as perfect, essential for conversion and wisdom, and more valuable than gold.

In Psalm 19, the Scriptures highlight the profound importance of God's Word, describing it as perfect and capable of converting the soul. This text emphasizes that the statutes of the Lord are right and bring joy to the heart, illustrating their vital role in guiding believers. God's Word is not just a collection of doctrines; it serves as a source of wisdom that makes the simple wise, equipping them for righteous living. It is portrayed as more precious than gold and sweeter than honey, underscoring its incomparably high value in the life of a believer.

Psalm 19:7-10

How do we know that the law of the Lord is perfect?

The law of the Lord is perfect as it is free from error and purifies the soul.

The Apostle Paul states that all Scripture is inspired by God, and the law of the Lord is perfect, lacking any errors or faults. This perfection indicates that it is purely aligned with God's nature and purpose, ultimately converting and restoring the soul. It is not only without error but is also effective in guiding believers toward righteousness, demonstrating that it carries the authority and power of God's truth. Therefore, the perfection of the law validates its role as the standard for moral and spiritual guidance.

Psalm 19:7, 2 Timothy 3:16

Why is it important for Christians to understand God's commandments?

God's commandments are essential as they guide believers towards righteousness and understanding of His truth.

Understanding God's commandments is vital because they reveal His character and expectations for His people. The commandment of the Lord is pure and enlightens the eyes, helping Christians understand their condition, sin, and the redeeming work of Christ. These precepts not only instruct believers but also transform their hearts, redirecting them toward truth and righteousness. It is through the knowledge of these commandments that believers can live in a manner that honors God and is in line with His will, leading to spiritual growth.

Psalm 19:8-9, John 17:17

How does God's Word provide warnings for believers?

God's Word warns believers of sin and provides direction for righteous living.

In Psalm 19, it is articulated that God's Word serves as a means of warning for believers, guiding them away from sin and towards truth. This duality of warnings and promises helps Christians navigate their lives, balancing caution against potential dangers with the encouragement found in God's promises. The warnings within Scripture are designed to keep believers grounded in faith and aware of the spiritual pitfalls that can lead them away from God. Thus, God's Word is an essential tool for believers to be aware of their vulnerabilities and the need for vigilance in their spiritual walk.

O make me Thine indeed, Thou precious Son. I need Thee, O I need Thee, Yeah, we need him, oh how we need him. Turn with, excuse me, turn with me to Psalm 19. Psalm 19. I believe this is what the Lord would have me to deal with tonight. Start reading in verse 7 and read down to verse 14.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure. making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold. Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them thy servant is warned, and in keeping of them there is a great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then shall I be upright. I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

Let the words of my mouth, the meditation of my heart, acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. O Lord Jesus, our blessed God and Savior, God forever and ever. Lord, we look forward to the day when the great God and our Savior will appear And oh, blessed Savior, but we're here tonight, we come to thank you. We always are thankful that we have this privilege, privilege, not a duty, a privilege to meet together, to open the word of God. And Lord, if you'd be pleased to enable me to give me some wisdom, some understanding, and some ability tonight to open these verses, I'd be ever so thankful. And Lord, bless these dear saints that's come out tonight. Be with us together, and Lord, give us the presence of the Holy Spirit. And our blessed Savior, we pray for those who would be with us if they could. Their bodies are weak. They're frail. And then there's those who are in a great trial, Rick and Helen. Oh, God bless them. Lord, strengthen them.

Lord, encourage them. And for those among us who are having trials, Those among us who seem to be troubled about things, please, Lord, give them a peace. Give them a rest from their worries. And, Lord, teach us all to cast all our cares upon you because you care for us. Meet with us tonight. Please remember our families, our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren. God, have mercy on them. Convince them of their great need of Christ. We ask these things in his blessed name. Amen.

Him number 224. 224 I know not why God's wondrous grace to me He hath made known, Nor why unworthy Christ in love redeeming for His own. But I know whom I have believed and am persuaded That He is able to keep that which I've committed Unto Him against that day. I know not how this saving faith To me He did involve, Nor how believing in His Word Brought peace within my heart. And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I've committed Unto Him against that day. I know not how the Spirit moves, convincing me of sin, revealing Jesus through the Word, creating faith in Him. But I know whom I am, believe it, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I've committed Unto Him against the day I know not what of good or ill May be reserved for me Of weary ways or golden days Before his face I see But I've flown through my happy land And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I've committed Unto Him against that day. I know not when my Lord may come, Last night or noonday fair, Nor if I walk the hill with Him, Nor meet Him in the air. But I know whom I am believin' And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I've committed Unto Him against the dead I hope you're still in Psalm 19.

There's two revelations here. There's a revelation of the heavens declared the glory of God, and this earth shows his handiwork. The heavens declare his glory. The earth and all that's in it declares and shows his handiwork. And that's one, that's the revelation, that's one of them.

But that's limited. You can look at the stars all you want to, look at the sun, study creation all you want, but there's no salvation in the creation. There's no blood in the creation. There's no death in the creation. There's no redemption in the creation. There's no salvation and there's no grace in the heavens. So we can look at the heavens, and I do, I love them, I love God's creation, but creation is not what saved me. Christ is the one who saves us.

But I want to deal with tonight with the word of God, the second revelation, that God's blessed word in the scriptures. And that's why I said the law of the Lord in verse seven is perfect. You know, the revelation, the word of scriptures and to whom God reveals himself it has a profound effect upon us. When God reveals Himself in His Word, it has a profound effect upon us. And David in six sentences, six sentences, gives us a wonderful, glorious thing of God's Word, things about God's Word. And let's deal with the first two here. verse 7 through 9 if we can.

And it says, the law of the Lord, the law of Jehovah, the law of Jehovah. Oh my, you know it's a, it affects us more, minds more than anything else in this world. But the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul, the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Now here's some titles of the Word of God. When it says the law of the Lord is perfect, if you look in the margin, it says the doctrine. The doctrine of the word. The doctrine of the Lord is perfect.

That means it don't have any error in it. That means it don't have a fault in it. That means that it's pure. That means that it's perfect in every way. Now, you keep this and look over in Deuteronomy 32 with me. Go over in Deuteronomy chapter 32. You know, it's free from all error. Men, you know, they like to find error with the Word of God. But I would not find fault with God's Word under no circumstances.

I don't understand it all. I heard a fellow say the other day that people were afraid to read the Old Testament because the God of the Old Testament was so different from the God of the New Testament. But if you don't believe the God of the Old Testament, you'll never believe the God of the New Testament either. You know, how are you going to know anything about God when it said God in the beginning?

That's the first thing we're confronted with when we open the Bible, God. God, Jehovah, the Lord, the creator, the sustainer of the universe. But look what he said here in Deuteronomy 32, verses 1 and 2. Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass." Oh my, that's what God said, that's the way my doctrine comes, that's the way it comes. And oh my, it's perfect, back over in our text. And it's filled with good. Oh my, it's filled with awe. It's perfect. It's filled with good. And it's perfect in its purpose.

You know, God has a purpose for His Word. And He says all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. The first thing it says is profitable for doctrine. Doctrine. Reproof. Correction. and instruction in righteousness. Four things that it tells us that it does for us, right off the bat. But it's filled with all good. And I'll tell you what, its purpose is perfect for its purpose. And then look what else it says about it. It converts the soul. You know, it converts the soul. Now, what does that mean to convert the soul? If you look in the margin, that means it restores the soul. It's restoring the soul.

And you know, we only saved one time. God only saves us once. But you know, He restores us time and time again. He converts us time and time again. He'll convert us. You know, somebody, we used to say, that kid needs an attitude adjustment. Well, if you and I need an attitude adjustment, God knows exactly how to adjust our attitudes. Every once in a while, we get out of pocket. Every once in a while, we get angry. Every once in a while, we'll fall on our faces. Every once in a while, we'll say and do things that we shouldn't say.

You know what God will do? He said, I'll turn you from that. I'm not going to let you go on that way. I'm going to turn you back. I'm going to restore you. back to this walk. That's why he told Simon Peter, when thou art converted, strengthen your brethren. Converted from what? His pride, his self-righteous, his self-confidence, and his presumption. Turn him from that. And oh my. And I say he turns us. He turned us back to God. He restored us to God, the Lord Jesus Christ did. And oh, bless his holy name.

But I tell you what, I've been converted so many times in my life, you know, I don't know if this ever happens to you all, but sometimes I don't feel like I've got a spiritual, one iota of spirituality about me, none whatsoever. Don't have a spiritual feeling at all, spiritually empty. But yet, when I get it, you know, and God starts speaking to me through his word, I feel that spirit. I feel things working in my heart, working in my soul, doing something for me, saving me from that spiritual infertility.

And then look what he says here again in verse 7. The law of the Lord is perfect to convert the soul, and the testimony of the Lord is sure. You know what the testimony of God is? This is God's testimony. His Word. The testimony of the Lord. You imagine God testifying. Well, He testifies. And I mean He witnesses to us. When He says He's a testimony, He testifies to us. He witnesses to us.

And it's, look what it says. It is sure. The testimony of the Lord is sure. We can be sure that what He tells us is true. That what He says in His Word is true. Everything about Him is true. Everything about His nature and His character and His Word and His salvation is pure and it's sure. And I tell you, this is what I love about it.

It will not deceive us. God's Word will not deceive us. There's so many people deceived. Oh my goodness, it's unbelievable how many people are deceived. But God will not, Word will not deceive us. When He testifies of something, you mark it down. It's sure. When God says something, mark it down. It's sure. It's steadfast. It's positive. It's perfect. And it has all power behind it. And I'll tell you something else it does. It will not deceive us.

And He witnesses to the truth. When God's testimony, He witnesses, He talks about the truth. He talks about the truth, and it's a sure foundation, and it makes us wise unto salvation. He witnesses to the truth. And I'll tell you something else, this testimony of the Lord, it witnesses to things that are right now, and it witnesses to things that'll come. When God testifies, He's telling us things that's gonna come, but He's always told us things that the way they really are.

Now, I don't know about you all, but I think that the Lord's people is the only people that face reality. I think God's people is the only people that actually faces reality. Everybody else is playing. Everybody else is trying to, they're swayed this way and that way and another way. But I tell you what, we're the only ones that face reality. We see the world as it is. We see God as He is. We are safe selves as we are. We don't make up stories about ourselves. Don't make up stories about God. Don't give our opinion. God Himself witnesses the truth to us. And it witnesses to things to come, makes us wise unto salvation. And look what else it says in the last part of that verse 7.

It'll make the simple wise. I'm glad he said that. It'll make the simple wise. You know, the glad people, the common people heard our Lord gladly. Oh, it'll make us wise in God's Word. It'll make us wise in the salvation of the saints. It'll make us wise in the salvation of our own souls. Make us wise concerning Christ. Make us wise concerning the gospel. Oh, it makes us wise. And then look in verse 8. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. You know, the statutes of the Lord are right.

You know what statutes are? That means laws enacted by Him, statutes enacted by Him. And it says they're right. They're right. Anything God does has to be right. And they're God's statutes. They come from His eternal counsel and will. And I'll tell you something else, not only are they right, they're right for man. They're right for us.

We need God to talk to us. God's precepts, not only are they right, but God's precepts will cause us to be right, make us walk right, make us consider what's right. You know, I was talking to a young man today. You know, this God's precept will set us right. He got a a devotion sent to him from some people he works for. And this is what he told me is said.

He said, God tried his best to keep the angels from falling. And he failed. And then God tried his best to do what he could for Adam. So he had to make a contingency plan. He had to reassess his situation and make something different. Now this fellow, that's Cody Hinton who it is, he said, oh my, I never, I never dreamed that people thought that way. I never dreamed that somebody would believe something like that. That God had to make a, had to change his plan because it didn't work out with Adam. And you imagine God trying to keep the angels from falling?

If he'd have kept anybody from falling, he'd have kept Adam. And then every one of us, if he'd have kept Adam, and then the first time somebody ate of that fruit, I don't care who it was, we'd all still fail. We'd all still fail. You know, if he'd have left us to ourselves like he did Adam in the garden, you know what happens to us? We'd do the same thing Adam did. We'd do the same thing Adam did.

But I tell you, people, people have such a strange, he said, you know, he said, that sets me on fire. He said, that sets me on fire. You know what sets you on fire? Hearing people talk about God trying to do something, what wants to do something, would like to do something.

God couldn't do this. You know, Isaiah 14. When you're talking about the angels falling and Satan falling, the scripture says that Satan sought to set himself above the throne of God. And God cast him down. Cast him down. Our Lord said, I beheld Satan fall from heaven as lightning, as a star falling. He said, I saw him come out of heaven. And all them angels that he deceived, they went right with him. God didn't try to, he wasn't trying to, oh, let me hold these up, folks, and if I get my, oh, my hands can't hold them.

Oh, that's what he says, you know, the statues of the Lord are right. His precepts are right. And they'll set us right. That's what I love about them, they'll set us right. You know why we need to be set right? Because we're set wrong to start with. But then look what else it says, they rejoice the heart. Oh, they rejoice the heart.

And let me tell you, to my mind, the greatest precepts and statutes to my mind, let me give a couple of them to you. Our Lord Jesus Christ says, no man can come unto me, come unto the Father, but by me. That's one of the statutes, one of the precepts.

And then he says, if you want to come to God, I'm the way. If you want to come to God, I'm the life. You can do no life apart from me. And I am the way, I'm the truth, and I'm the life. If you want to throw truth, I got it. If you want truth from God, I got it. Whatever you got from God, you got to come through me. What a wonderful precept. And then another one is, without me, without me, you can do nothing. Now I can understand that, can't you? Without me, you can do nothing. What can we do without Him? Nothing. Oh, my. And then these things are written. Oh, here's a precept.

These things are written that you might believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. And then God said over John, He said, This is the record. that God hath given to us of eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son hath not the life of God."

Those things rejoiced my heart. They rejoiced my heart. Oh, my. And I'll tell you what, the fulfillment of the law, I'll tell you, this rejoices my heart, that our Lord Jesus Christ obeyed the law and fulfilled the law in our room instead. And then He bore our sins in His own body on that tree. and suffered the wrath of God in my place, that rejoices my heart. And he writes the word on our hearts. And oh my, and look what it said, it rejoices the heart.

I tell you, it'll end in everlasting joy. Then look what the next line says. The commandment of the Lord is pure. The commandment of the Lord is pure. You know what that means? It's clear. It's clean. It's pure. It's without any darkness. It's without any dross. And I'll tell you something else.

Not only is it pure, but the Word of God, the commandment of God, purifies us, purifies us, and those who believe and those who receive it. It's purifying our hearts by faith. And it's the means that the Holy Ghost uses To enlighten, look what it says, the next one is the enlightening of the eyes.

Oh my, it's purifying, it's pure. Oh, God's word is so pure. So pure. And it's clean without darkness, without dross. And it purifies, it's pure, it's pure. It purifies those who believe and receive it. And then, look what the means the Holy Ghost uses to enlighten our eyes. The commandment of the Lord is pure. It opens our eyes. Oh, my.

I tell you what it did to our eyes. When it enlightened our eyes, first thing we saw was sin. You know, Sunday, I'm going to deal with when Simon Peter said, depart from me, Lord, I'm a sinful man. You know, the thing is, is that we see sin and all we We can't see it as bad as it is, but we see it bad. It's awful. But we also see this. We see sin put away. It'd be awful to see sin and not see it put away. Not see it put away by the sacrifice of Christ. And oh my, it enlightens our eyes. You know what that means? That we see things that we never saw before. We see now what we didn't see. We went for years, didn't see. Now we see. Oh my. He enlightens our eyes, opens our eyes to see, enlightens them. And then look what else it says.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous all together. When we talk about the fear of the Lord, we're talking about true religion. True religion. You know, people talk about the fear of the Lord, but now when we talk about the fear of the Lord, we're talking about God. Not a pretender. God who has all power. God who is infinitely holy. God who is eternally righteous and just. And I tell you what, and you know, and God, he's a God of grace.

But I'm telling you something, you know, the fear of the Lord, when God begins to deal with us, the fear of the Lord keeps, you know, the fear of the Lord keeps me from saying and doing things that I wouldn't do if it wasn't for the fear of God. The fear of God keeps me from going places and doing things and saying things that I wouldn't say, that I would do without the fear of God. I, you know, and I've told you time and again that I don't want to miss Christ. I do not want to miss Christ. And I, you know, the fear of God makes me examine myself and examine the gospel I preach and look at it again and again to see if what I'm saying is true. Is it right? Is it just? Is it according to the word of God? And true religion, sometimes it put in the place of trust, put in the place of salvation.

And we've, you know, You find so many people walking in the fear of the Lord. Cornelius feared the Lord. And what happened? Peter went over and preached to him. Preached to him. And oh, my. You know, when you fear the Lord, look what it says about it. The fear of the Lord is clean. It's clean. The fear of the Lord's the beginning of wisdom. It's clean. You know what it'll do for you and me? It'll make us clean. It'll make us clean. Oh, you know what?

Our Lord Jesus said, John 15, 3, He says, Now you are clean through the word that I have spoken to you. In John 17 and verse 17, it says this, Sanctify them through thy truth, through thy truth. Thy word is truth. And that's what the Lord of God does.

It cleanses us. It cleanses us. Oh, my. Cleanses us inside and out. And then look what else it says about it. It endures forever. Now, I'm going to tell you something. I believe when we get to heaven, we'll have the same book, the book that Christ opened, the same book. I believe that this will still be true when we get to glory. We won't need it. We won't need it. But it'll be this if God was to come back to this earth and everything he had right would be there. And this is the book that God I believe that Christ opened up all the will and all the counsel and all the purpose of God.

And oh my it endures forever. And the fear of the Lord endures forever. And then look what else he said here. righteous altogether." The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and right. You know why it comes? Because it comes from infinite wisdom. You know, it lays truth to the plumb line.

Let me give you some illustrations of the judgments of the Lord that are true and right. The judgment of God came upon Adam, drove him out of the garden, commanded him to get out of the garden. But then God came back, and then he slew the animals and covered their nakedness with the animal skin. Judgment was right, but then he comes back. What about the flood? Was the flood a judgment that was right? Was it a judgment that was true? Did God make a mistake when He destroyed the whole world, all but eight souls? Was His judgment true? Was His judgments righteous? I'll tell you how righteous His judgment's gonna be.

Everybody that's not found in Christ will perish. Now, you think about the multitude. Here we are, a handful of people here. A multitude, a multitude of people. Angus told me, he said, in Australia, and it's a huge, huge continent. Huge continent. He said, as far as I know, and he's looked and looked and looked, there's nobody on the continent of Australia preaching the gospel. Because if there was, I would find them and have fellowship with them. And so everybody, you imagine, all my whole family on one side and both sides, they died without Christ or didn't know anything about Him and didn't care to know.

The judgments of the Lord are right. He's going to do right by my children, going to do right by your children. When He makes judgment, He makes them right. And I'll tell you the greatest judgment that God ever did when He put His Son on a cross. You talking about judgment. His judgment was so great and so powerful and so final that God said that all my wrath that I have against all my delect, I'll pour it out on him.

I'll make my judgments to come on him. And if he was judged for our sins, then he will never come and require us and judge us for him. He can't do that. Oh, bless his name. You know, I'll tell you what, this, God's judgments, whatever he does is right. Whatever he does is right.

People say all the time, he said, if, let's see, where am I at? I'm in nine. There we go. I get it. True and righteous all together. God's going to do right. He's going to do right. He must do right. How wrong are we, and yet God's always right? His poor justice is always right. He doesn't judge me in the Savior. Then look here.

Let's look at the value of the Word of God. God's value. In verse 10, more to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey in the honeycomb." How much do you value God's Word? What's it worth to you? How valuable, how do you value God's Word? How do you value the Lord Jesus Christ? And I know God's people value their relationship with God, their relationship with Christ, more than anything in this world.

You know, if you could gain anything and lose your soul, it wouldn't amount to anything. But we place such a high value, precious value, on God's Word and our relationship with Him. We do. And oh, my. You know, we value more than all the wealth in the world. I'd rather have God in His Word than have all the gold that they have in Fort Knox or any place else.

Because I tell you why, gold is made in time. Grace comes from heaven. Gold will perish, but oh my soul, grace comes down and it'll never perish. Gold will one day be like dust. You know what God thinks of gold? Down here, people go nuts over it. They think, oh my goodness, I gotta have some gold, gotta buy some gold, gotta get some gold, dig some gold. God said, I'll tell you what I think about gold.

I'm gonna let my people walk on it. And it won't be, the only value it has on it is that God made it for us to walk on. Men coveted here. Angus' wife, Lisa, told us about a man down, that they knew down there, and he just kept getting more and getting more and getting more, and she said, when will it be enough? He said, just one more dollar. Just one more dollar. Just one more. Just one more.

But oh my, I tell you, more to be desired than gold, than fine gold. Gold is of the earth. Grace is heavenly. Gold is for time. Grace is for eternity and everlasting. And oh my, look what he goes on to say. More to be desired. Oh my, lots of pleasure and delight in God's word. It's sweet to the soul when it's received by faith. Jeremiah said, I found your word, and I did eat it. I ate it. And oh my, we eat the word. We eat it. We take it into our souls. And it does something for us as it comes into our soul.

And oh my, you can't begin. You know what God said? He said, your faith, your faith being much more precious than of gold. Your faith is much more precious than gold, though it be tried with fire. He said your faith is precious, more precious than gold. All right. Look, well, I got to hurry. What time we got?

Moreover, in verse 11, moreover by them thy servant is warned, and in keeping of them there's great reward. Oh, in keeping God's word, by the word of God, we're warned. Oh my, how many times have we been warned? God warns us of things to come, warns us of don't go this way, don't go that way, don't go another way, and he warns us. You know, the Scriptures is, I heard Brother Henry say it so many times, the Scriptures, one place, you got all this warnings on this side, all this promises on this side. These warnings keep us from going this way, and the promises keeps us, keeps us right on. He warns us, promises. Keeps us right where we're supposed to go. Oh my. And I serve as warned. God gives warnings to all men. He warns of sin. He warns of judgment. He warns us dangers to avoid. He warns men to flee from the wrath to come.

And, oh, God's servants take it to heart. They take it to heart. And, oh, my, look what it says, in keeping them is a great reward. Great reward. You know, we get a reward out of the Bible. This is where we get our reward. You know, when you come and the gospel does something for you and the word does something for you, that's a reward. God's blessing you and giving you something that you don't deserve.

He said, I'm going to reward you. What am I going to do? I'm going to drop a handful on purpose right in your heart, a handful of purpose right in your heart, a handful of purpose in your mind. That's what I'm going to do. Oh my, we have a reward in the Word. You know, the Word itself is a reward when you read it. Oh, what a reward it is. And you know, it rewards us with the knowledge of salvation.

Without the Word of God, we wouldn't know about salvation. We wouldn't know about grace. We wouldn't know about election. We wouldn't know about Christ. And Christ being our reward, Christ himself is our reward. Without the word, we wouldn't know those things. We wouldn't know those things. And then look what it says in verse 12.

Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. You know, We have errors that we're not even conscious of. Who can understand them? Huh? Who can understand them? I read the other day that they have sacrificed for sins of ignorance. Well, Christ is our sacrifice for all our ignorance, for all of our errors, for all of our stumblings, for all of our fallings. And oh, who can understand his errors, his sins?

I can't. I can't at all. The law is holy, just, and good, and it points out my sin. But I tell you, I tell you, who understands them? And who can know them? God can. And God does. And I tell you, I can't. The word can expose them to us. And this is one thing that I am so thankful for. that whatever I do in secret, and God knows what I do in secret, and He cleanses me from my secret faults, cleanses me from my errors. You know, He knows. Oh, bless His name. He knows. He knows our errors. He knows our secret sins. He knows them. Oh, my. We can't understand them. We can't number them. We can't understand the sinfulness of it.

But who does? Who does? God does. God does. And I'm grateful he does. Now look what else he said here now. Cleanse, then we pray. Cleanse thou me from secret faults. I've got these secret things. God, you know them. We don't even know them. These secret things. Oh Lord, cleanse thou me from secret faults. Oh, I come to your throne of grace. I come to your throne of grace. Please show me, Lord. Please show me. Oh, my. Cleanse me.

No secret from God. It may see secret to us and others, but God said, Cleanse me. David prayed, Lord, cleanse me and I shall be clean. Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean. And then look what else he says here. In verse 13, talking about God's Word, keep back thy servant from presumptuous sins. Let not them have dominion over me, then I shall be upright and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Keep back thy servant from presumptuous sins.

I'll tell you some men in the Bible that had presumptuous sins. Abraham had presumptuous sins when he lied twice about Sarah. David had presumptuous sins when he took Joab's wife, when he took Bathsheba, and then tried to have him killed. That's presumptuous sins.

Peter had presumptuous sins when he said, I'll go to jail with you. I'll die with you. That's presumptuous sin. Peter said, oh, I ain't going to deny you no way. That's presumptuous sin. You go through the Bible and you find presumptuous sins in so many people. So presumptuous sins.

But oh God, he said, keep me back. Don't let me presume for a minute that if I commit a sin that you'll take care of it for me. You know, you can turn out these lights and get dark in here, but I tell you, you can't turn grace off and on. You can't do that. I'll sin here and then grace will come and do something for me. You can't turn grace off and on. It's not a switch. Not a switch.

Keep us back from presumptuous sins. Oh, my. Keep me back from sins of infirmity. Keep me back from presumptuous sins. Sins against light. Oh, to sin against light. To sin against love. To sin against knowledge. To sin against conscience. All those are offensive to God. Then look what he said.

Don't let them have dominion over me. Don't let them rule over me. Don't let them be a slave to them. Don't let them have dominion over me. Don't let them rule over me. Don't let them reign over me. Don't let these sins reign over me. Don't let me be enslaved to them.

Then I shall be upright. Oh God, I'll be upright in heart. I want my heart to be right with them. Oh, in every way with you. I'll be upright in my manner of life because I've been cleansed. Let our conversation be as it becomes the gospel of Christ. And then look what he said, I shall be innocent of the great transgression.

You know what? The only sin in the Bible that's unforgivable, the great transgression, that's the sin against the Holy Ghost. I mean attributing something to the Holy Ghost that's not true. Attributing works to the Holy Ghost that's not true. And you know, I shall be innocent of the great transgression.

God says six things I hate, yea, seven are an abomination. First one's pride. Just a proud look, he said, just a proud look. backbiters. Oh my pride apostasy. Oh my what apostasy to turn from God to fall away from the truth. Fall away from grace. Fall away from things that's right and true. Sin against the Holy Ghost. Oh a multitude of transgressions.

And then look what he says in closing. He said Lord Let what I've said come out of my mouth. As I've talked to you here, and I let these words come out of my mouth, and I described you and your word, and how precious it is, and how powerful it is, and how cleansing it is, and how valuable it is. And when I look at it, how pure it is, and how it saves us from our sin, oh, when I look at it, let the words of my mouth, let what I've said about your word, let the words of my mouth, and the thoughts of my heart, thoughts of my heart, the meditation of my heart as I thought on you. Let it be acceptable, O Lord, in your sight." Oh, God, would you make it acceptable in your sight? And then he said, he closed like this, O Lord, my strength, my strength, and my redeemer. When it's all said and done, he said, Lord, would you accept what I've said? Would you accept it? You're my strength. You're my strength. And you're the one that redeemed me. You're the one that bought me. I hope that's been a blessing to you.

The word of God, how precious, how precious, how precious. Our blessed Savior, thank you for allowing us to be here this evening. Thank you for your word. Lord, we can't value your word enough. It's done for us things that nothing in this world could ever possibly do.

And God bless these dear saints. Bless those that are listening tonight, watching tonight, those that are not able to come because of the condition, what they're going through. God bless them. Lord, encourage them. And our blessed Savior, again, we pray for our family, all our families. Lord, I don't ever want to forget my families, my wife's family, these peoples, the saints' families in this congregation. Lord, please have mercy on them. And our God, be with us when we meet again. So we can meet again, keep you dear saints, and we thank you for it in our Lord Jesus' name, amen, amen. ♪ Learning to lean ♪ Learning to lean ♪ I'm learning to lean on Jesus Finding more power than I've ever dreamed.
