Go back to John chapter 6. John chapter 6. I titled this message, Christ Shall
Lose Nothing. It says there in Isaiah 42, He
shall not fail. He shall not fail doing the will
of His Father. He shall not fail in redemption.
He shall not fail in saving all those given to Him by the Father. Our Lord so clearly sets forth
in the election of grace here. He gives us a glimpse into what we call eternity past.
You know, it's always present with God, but with us, we deal
in past, present, future. And he gives a glimpse of what
went on before the world was right here. It's so plain. So
plain. I sat down Sunday evening and
brought a message for the radio on the will of the Father from
this passage. And I sat down this morning looking
at it again. I was thinking about bringing
that same one. But I went ahead and rewrote
the whole outline. Because I was impressed with this. Christ shall
lose nothing. And I tell you what, I'm absolutely
nothing. I'm as nothing as it gets. And
He'll lose nothing. Now in this chapter, our Lord
said, 5,000 men plus women and children. Probably close to 10,000 people
here. And he did this with a lad's
lunch there in verse 9. This lad had five barley loaves
and two small fishes. See, he tells things as they
are. If we were going to tell a fish story, it would be much bigger,
wouldn't it? But he tells us like it is, they're
two small fishes. Not whales, two small fishes. And they all ate until they were
satisfied. If he feeds us tonight, if he's
the one who feeds us, we will leave satisfied. You ever sit
down to eat and you get up And you're just full, full, well
satisfied. Well, if he's the one who takes
this word tonight and feeds us, we'll be satisfied. They were well satisfied. Then
he had his disciples to clean the place up. He did not leave
it in a mess. Natural men would just leave,
wouldn't they? You know that. Most times you have a conference,
everybody bells out and two or three people get left with it.
That's us by nature. Really. But he never littered
his earth, did he? He never made a mess. We make
a mess. He never made a mess. They picked
up all the baskets there. I think there's 12 baskets of
fragments and cleaned it all up. And when they had eaten,
they said, of a truth, this is that prophet that should come
into the world. And they were ready to take him
and make him a king. I thought, whoever keeps us from
working for our bread can be king. Whoever keeps us from having
to go to work and we get a free lunch program, he can be the
king. They were going to make him king. They still looked for that earthly
kingdom. They still had their mind and thoughts on that earthly
kingdom that the Messiah was going to come and set up this
political kingdom and they were going to become world prominence. It was a spiritual kingdom and
they missed it. So he went into a mountain by himself. He had
to get along. He was around this crowd all
day feeding these people. And he went by himself. And I
have no doubt to feed himself on his father. To be fed by his
father. I'm learning this as I do this. To feed, you have to be fed. For me to truly feed you something,
I've got to be fed. out of the Word of God. I read
a sermon today by Spurgeon out of verse 37. And I tell you,
it's in volume 10. It was good. I was fed. And that's
what he did. He went to the mountain. Went
over there by himself. And his disciples entered into
a ship that goes to Capernaum. And it was nighttime. And they
went without him. I have no doubt they waited around
on him. But they went without him, waiting and waiting. He
didn't show up and they must have had a conversation that
this is where they were going to go. So they got into a ship
and they went without him. You know, sometimes we don't
know what the will of God is. Well, most of the time we don't. I'm learning this. Just do the
next thing. And usually you'll find that
out as you do it. Usually that's when you find out the will of
God, when you just do the next thing. Well, they did that. And a great wind arose, and they
rode against that wind, and they went several furlongs. And here's
the reason He let them go out there by themselves. He's going
to give them a glimpse of His deity. And this is what happens
to us off and on as we go through life. He gives us a glimpse of
His power, His glory, and His deity. And He comes to them walking
on the water. He who walks on the wings of
the wind, now walking on the water. Heaven is my throne. Earth is my footstool. And He
just walked across that water. And when they saw that, they
were afraid. They'd never seen it. I would be afraid too. At night time, in the boat, the
wind blowing, and here comes a man walking on water. You'd be afraid. I'd be afraid
too. They're human. They're just like
us. All of us are men of like fashion.
But he speaks peace to them. And he said, it is I. Be not
afraid. You have nothing to be afraid
of. We honestly, truly, as we go through this life, have nothing
to be afraid of. What do you have to be afraid
of? Nothing. And they willingly received Him
into the ship. They gladly received Him into
the ship. They were confused as to how
he came there. They said, now, how did you come
over here? We saw your disciples. No doubt they kept hanging around
there after he went into the mountain. They were probably
waiting for him to come back. And they saw this miracle. And
they said, how did you get over here? How did you get from where
you were to where we are? We saw your disciples get into
a boat. But we didn't see you get into it. Confused. You know why they're
confused? Because they didn't know who
he was. If they had known who he was, they wouldn't have ever
asked that question. Confusion arises out of ignorance. That's been my experience. And when they found him, they
asked him, how did you come over here there in verse 26? And he
didn't answer their question. You see, he's God. He gives no
account of any of his matters. He's God. But he revealed their
motives. He said, why are you seeking
me? Why did you come over here? Here's the question. Why are
you here? He knew why he was here. He knew
why he came. He came to fulfill his father's
will, which he's going to tell us. But why are you here? Why
are you seeking me? What are you after? And that's when he said to them
there in verse 27, well, verse 26, Jesus answered them and said,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, let me tell you the reason you're
here. Let me reveal your heart. Let me reveal your motive. Boy,
he reaches the heart, doesn't he? You and I can hide a lot
of things, and it's a good thing we do. It's a good thing we do. It's a good thing we don't let
out everything. But he can reach right into the heart and pull
out the real motive as to why you seek me. What are you after? I know what a lot of people are
after. From what I see and what I hear, they're after what they
can get out of me. It's like the rich. Scripture
says, have many friends. That's because they're after
something. And most religious people seek
Him because of what they're after. The good life. They want to be
blessed with health, wealth, and anything else they can get
their hands on. But He says here, you seek Me
not because you saw the miracles and believe that I'm He. You
didn't see the miracles and believe that I'm the Son of God. No.
Here's why. Because you did eat of the loaves and were filled.
You got a free lunch out of it. You were filled with this food
I fed you. That's why you're after me. You
want what you can get out of me. He knows the heart. He knows it. And He says to them,
labor not for the meat which perishes. Don't spend your life
and your effort for that which is perishing. I told Vicki one day when we came
home, I said, I can't believe I worked so hard for this little
place. I said, I worked so hard. Me and Vicki both. I said, I can't believe we worked
so hard to pay for such a little place. Don't labor. I know we need a
place to live and I know we need these things. Your Heavenly Father
knows you need these things. He says don't give your life,
don't give your life to being possessed of these things. And
He's telling this to them and to us. And don't give your life
to a false profession. The Scripture says make your
calling and election sure. And I thought about this I'm
going to go back over these notes today. Scripture says this, strive
to enter in. And I sat back in my chair and
I thought, am I striving to enter in? Is this thing to me like
a striving? You have to have it. It's like
the pilgrim going through the valley of despond and the sludge. He's striving to get through
it. He's not going to stop in. He's striving to enter in. Most people just make a profession
and it's okay. He said this, many will, but
many won't make it. I'm not saying that to scare
you. I'm saying that because that's what the Scripture says.
Strive to enter in. They said to him there in verse
28, Well, let me read finish verse 27. Labor not for the meat
which perishes, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting
life, that which is really worth it, which is eternal life, which
the Son of Man shall give unto you. For him hath God the Father
sealed. He has sealed and appointed. Then said they unto him, What
shall we do? Can't get off of works, can we?
Not naturally. Can't get off of works. What shall we do that we might
work the works of God? Tell us something to do. Tell
us what we must do. Give us something to do. Tell
us what commandment we have to... If there was a commandment out
there, that one young man said, I've kept all these. Wasn't that
guy yet? A whole lot. You lack all of them. You missed
it. What must I do? And the Lord lets them know and
let's know that salvation is a work of God, is not a work
of men. I'm sure glad it's not. I'm glad
it's not a work, you know, you all of you who work, you work
and you have to keep on working because you can't finish it.
So what makes me think we can finish? What would make us think
we could finish that which is so weighty, which is eternal
life, and accept it with God? Salvation is the work of God.
It's to believe on Christ who said, whom He has sent. This
is the work of God, and here it is, that you believe on Him
whom He has sent. Do you believe the Gospel? Really? That's the work of God. They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then that
we may see? That we may see and believe thee? What dost thou work? What dost thou work? Show us
a sign. Well, the last one didn't work
for you, why do you want another one? He just fed 5,000. Well, he fed,
like I said, he probably fed close to 10,000. You think they
would have believed he fed them maybe 20? What if it had been
50,000? Do you think that would have made a difference? Wouldn't
have made a difference, would it? Miracles never make a difference. Grace makes a difference. Grace. Show us a sign. And then here's what they did
when they asked Him to show them a sign. They compared Him to
Moses. Moses showed us a sign. Moses
showed us a sign for 40 years. That's what they're saying. Our
fathers did eat manna in the desert as it is written. He gave
them bread from heaven. And then our Lord straightened
them out. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Moses didn't give you that bread. He
did not have that kind of power and virtue. My Father did that.
Moses didn't give you that bread from heaven, but my Father now
gives you the true bread from heaven. What they want to know is, are
you greater than Moses? Show us a sign of proof. Give
us a continual sign. In other words, continually do
this. He gave him manna for 40 years.
Give us this free lunch for the next 40 years. Are you greater
than Moses? I'd say so. Moses the Creator. Moses the Lord. He said, My Father
gave that bread, and My Father is the one who's given the true
bread from heaven. You know that woman at the well,
when our Lord spoke of that living water, she showed her ignorance
too. She said, whoa, give me this
water that I don't have to come here and draw again. And that's
what they're saying, the same thing. Give us this bread again
and again, just like Moses did. Tempting the Lord. That's what
they're doing, tempting God. And our Lord said, I am the bread
of life. I am the bread of Jehovah. The Almighty God, the Creator,
is the bread of life, and He's standing in front of you. I am
the bread. I'm the life-giving bread. I'm the life-sustaining bread.
I'm the life-preserving bread. I'm the bread. But you don't
believe me. You do not believe this. That's
what he says there in verse 36. But I said unto you that ye also
see me. They saw the miracles. They saw
him walk and talk and do these miracles. But you believe not. But all is not lost. Here comes,
I can tell you, here's a revelation. Oh, here's a revelation that
most The Jews, which represent religion, totally missed it.
But what a revelation is given here. All that the Father giveth
me shall come to me. Notice that word, all. All that
he giveth me. He gave them to him all at one
time. And he gave him all of them. Every last one of them. He doesn't give them to him as
we go along. And somebody makes a decision,
and then he gives them to Christ. No, this is all given. All that
the Father giveth me shall. Aren't you glad of that word? Are you not glad of that word?
Shall. It cannot fail. It cannot fail. This is giving glory to the one
it belongs to. Giving honor to whom honor is
due. Giving to Him the honor that's due unto His name. Our
Lord has given us a glimpse into eternity. He's given us a glimpse
into the Council Hall of God Almighty. He said, All that shall
come to Me shall come to a person. We're
not coming to religion. We're not coming to a doctrine.
were coming to the living Son of God. He said, they shall come
to me. Not one of them shall be lost.
When it's all over with, there will not be an empty city. There will be myriads that will
have nothing to do with me. Perish, but there won't be an
empty city. In my Father's house are many
dwelling places, and every one of them will be full. Not one will be lost. They were
given to Him in the covenant of grace. As God, they belong
to Him forever. They're always His. But as the
Mediator and the surety of that covenant, they were given to
Him. Bring them home, son. Bring them
home. He said in the Scriptures, I
have laid help upon one that's mighty. And that wasn't me. And it wasn't you. That was His
Son. That's the one at His right hand. Oh, He's our Savior. And Him, now
it gets personal. First, He said all that the Father
giveth Me. Now he brings it down to a personal
thing. Him that cometh. We don't come in crowds. We do
not come to Christ in crowds. We come individually. And we
don't come for each other. We come and pray for each other.
We don't come for Him. I can't come for my sons. They
can't come for me. We must come to Him. We must
come to Him. Him that cometh. It doesn't say
Him that came. Does it? He's talking about something
that's continual here. He's talking about something
that's continually. I thought of this today. Have we come to church this evening? Are we coming to Christ this
evening? It just hit me as I was sitting
there and I thought, this is a real difference here as to
whether you leave blessed, you leave satisfied, you leave full. Did you come to church this evening
or are we coming to Christ? If we could come here every week
with this attitude of coming to Christ What a difference. What a difference. Him that cometh to me. It doesn't
say anything about... I'm glad it doesn't describe
the person here now. Aren't you? It just says Him
that cometh. Him that cometh. It doesn't describe
whether he's vile or wretched or rich or whatever. Him that
cometh. This was always a favorite verse
of mine early on when I heard the Gospel. I will in no wise,
in no way, and for no reason cast him out. When you read the
Gospels, was there ever a time that the
Lord told a sinner, a bona fide, as John Bunyan called it, Jerusalem
sinner, did he ever tell him to leave, cast him out? as many
as needed healing, He healed. As many as needed. The sinner
who comes to Christ by faith, leans on Him, Christ is all his
confidence and salvation, be they ever so vile, shall never
be cast out for any reason. I could stand in the worst prison
in this country and say to the worst, what we would call worst
criminals, and say, him that cometh to me, I will no wise
cast out. The ones whose society would
cast out and we along with them would cast them out, lock them
up, and put them in the electric chair. If he comes to me, I will
not cast him out. I will not cast him out. Not
at all. No matter how black the past,
he says, I will never cast him out. Isn't that good news? Isn't that the good news of the
gospel? It is to the outcast. If you're an outcast, It's good
news to hear that you can come to him and he'll never cast you
out. That's good news. For I came down from heaven.
Here's the reason why I'll never cast him out. For I came down
from heaven. He speaks of his deity here, right into these
Jews. I mean, he didn't hide it. He
said, I came down from heaven. The first Adam was of the earth,
earthly. The second Adam, the second man,
is the Lord from heaven. I came down from heaven. He became
incarnate. Can we even for a minute grasp
the glory that He had with the Father before the world was? He says, I came down from heaven. God's throne. Paradise. Into this mess. Into this sewer. This is a sewer. We live in a
sewer. It's what we live in. Now this
is a human waste pit. And this is where he came. And he became bone of our bones
and flesh of our flesh. Oh, to even conceive a little
bit of what that means. Bone of our bone and flesh of
our flesh. And I came not to do my own will, not that it's
any different. He's not acting alone. That's
why He's saying He came to do the will of His Father, the One
who sent Him. Here's good news. It is the Father's
will to save you, to have you, and bring you home. And it is
your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. It's His
pleasure to give it to you. And you're going to have it.
In spite of yourself, you're going to have Him. He's doing His Father's will. My boys, more so Jeremy, brought home
a few friends I wouldn't cast out. He brought home a few friends I wouldn't, no, I didn't want
to have it. That'll never happen to us. This
is the point. That will never happen to us.
We'll never be brought to his house and the father will say,
no, no, that was not coming in. That was not coming in. We're all welcome. Everyone he
brings to his Father's house is welcome. If you are truly, if I am truly
saved, it's because it's the Father's will to save you. It's not free will. It's not
human free will. It's the sovereign will of the
Heavenly Father to have you. Oh, I wish I could say that over
TV to the world. It's His will. Yes, He makes
us willing in the day of His power. But because there was a secret
will back there that we really didn't know anything about until
He saved us. Then we learned it. You didn't choose me, I chose
you. We were willing in the day of
His power. And we realized, taught of God
that it was really according to His
will. It was His will, not mine. That's good news. And this truth
ought to give us courage to fight on and carry on. It's the Father's
will. Now, who can stop that? It says
here in verse 39, And this is the Father's will which is sent
me. Here it is. He's going to reveal I don't
know all of the Father's will. There's a secret will, then there's
a revealed will. I don't know all that, but here
we know it. Here we know it. That of all
which He hath given me, I should lose nothing. Not a hair of your head will
perish, but should raise it up again. At the last day, there's
going to be a great resurrection, and the whole redeemed of God
is going to stand in His presence rejoicing and singing praise
unto the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And we're going to be there by
the will of God. And this is the will of Him that
sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son and believes on
Him. He said this. Let me see if I can find that
verse again. But I said unto you, that ye
also have seen me." Listen, and believe not. Now down here he
says, and this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone
would seeeth the Son. This is not a physical sight. This is a spiritual sight. And
they believe on him. They believe on him. May have everlasting life. And I'll raise him up. at the
last day. And those Jews murmured. Can
you believe murmuring at this? We did it one time. They murmured. Religion murmured at him because
he said, I'm the bread which came down from heaven. And they
said, is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph whose father and
mother we know? They didn't realize he was born
of a virgin, did they? What they're saying here, we
know his mother and father. They were married and they had
this child named Jesus. No, he's begotten by the Holy
Spirit, whose mother and father we know.
How is it then that he says, I came down from heaven? How
could he come down from heaven? We know his parents. by Joseph and Mary. They couldn't grasp it. They're
looking at this man. Looking at this poor man. You'd
probably, if you were not given eyes to see who he is, you'd
be offended probably looking at him. He wouldn't look like
you'd think he looks. He wouldn't look like that picture
that people draw. No, he wouldn't look like that.
You would turn your head. You'd be embarrassed to say,
this is our King. They were. It wouldn't be any
different. Not by nature. Jesus answered and said unto
them, murmur not among yourselves. Don't complain. You don't have
anything to do with this. Don't complain. You might as
well stop complaining. You don't have anything to do with it.
No man can come to Me. No man can come to Me, see Me,
believe on Me. except the Father which hath
sent me draw him. By his effectual grace and powerful
grace and calling and work of the Spirit of God, he draws. He doesn't push. We are not pushed
into the kingdom of God. We are not pushed into believing.
I've seen people pushed into believing so they can get out
of there. I've seen them pushed into it. The center is drawn. You know
what He's drawn with? Cords of blood. The goodness
of God leadeth thee to repentance. And I will raise Him up at the
last... He keeps saying that, doesn't He? What a blessed assurance
we have here of our resurrection in Christ. And that resurrection
day. And the resurrection of all our
loved ones who have already gone. I'll raise them up at the last
day. That's just as real as this is. I thought today, I thought
today, we can't comprehend that world, but that's just as real
as this one. What's going on there right now is 10,000 times 10,000 saints
are worshiping our Lord in reality, looking in His face, just as
we said here. And they are doing it perfectly.
And we'll follow them in just a little while. It'll be just
a little while. It is written in the prophets,
and they shall all be taught of God. He removes the ignorance. Aren't you glad of that? He removes
the ignorance, the ignorance of darkness that we were born
in. He removes it. He commands the light to shine.
And every man, therefore, that has heard and learned of the
Father, God's given him a hearing ear. And he's heard the gospel. He's heard it. And he's learned. The Father has taught him. Cometh
unto men, but nobody else will. That man whom God takes hold
of, that man, that woman whom God takes hold of, is mine. He was given to Christ. Christ
redeemed him. The Spirit called him. And God's
going to teach him. Paul calls it that excellent
knowledge. There in Philippians 3. Not that any man has seen the
Father. This doesn't happen when we are taught of God. It doesn't
mean that we see a vision or we hear an audible voice. That
doesn't happen. But he says this, but he which
is of God, the Son of God, he has seen the Father and he has
come and he has revealed him to us. He has revealed him to
us. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me
hath everlasting life. That's the evidence of it. The
best evidence I can tell you of everlasting life is that you
believe God. You believe the gospel. You believe
Christ. He's all your hope. He's everything
to you. He's everything. He's your life. He's your heartbeat. He says that person has everlasting
life. He has everlasting life. And then he says there, I am
that bread of life. I am that bread of life. Have you found Christ to be that? When I ask you questions, I ask
myself. I ask myself, sitting in the
study, these questions of myself. Have I found Christ to be the
bread of life? That which fills my hunger? That
which satisfies me? What is it that really satisfies
you? To the believer, it's Christ.
And we're growing that. I know we're growing that. And
I tell you what, when you're young, it's hard to fight off
these other things that come at you. Trying to raise a family,
a young family, I'm telling you, it's difficult. But you've got
those responsibilities. And the world is set for youth. Give me your youth. You can have
the old age. The world doesn't want that,
do they? I find that out as I get older and older. I'd hate to
go look for a job now at 51 years of age. I'd hate to have to do
it. Now when I was 25 or 35, I wouldn't
have thought anything about it. The world doesn't want that.
They want your youth. But the Lord directs the steps
of all His people. As they grow with Christ, they
find Him to be all they need. And I truly believe they become
more content with Him and more discontent with these things.
I believe that.
