Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, - Romans 4:16
The Promise of Almighty God to his elect church is essentially the Lord Jesus Christ. In him alone is justification and righteousness before God. By the grace of God through the gift of faith our justifying righteousness (Christ) is imputed, imparted and revealed to us in regeneration—To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col 1:27). The Lord Jesus Christ is the substance, surety, and promise of God’s everlasting covenant of grace to his children. Fear not, Abram: I AM thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward (Gn 15:1).
All the promises of God are immutable in the eternal Son, For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us (2 Cor 1:20). Good works, bad works, or no works, does nothing to accomplish the sinner’s justification before God. No man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident (Gal 3:11). We are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus(Rom 3:24).
God-given faith is not in faith, justification, righteousness, or the law. The evidence of justification is made sure to us by the substance of faith, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb 11:1). True faith is in Christ alone, whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus (Rom 3:25).
