For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. - Romans 6:10
Forgiveness of sin is not God merely looking the other way and saying, “I understand, you cannot help what you are and what you do, so I will not hold it against you.” Sin is an offense against the holy and just God and must be punished! For sin to be forgiven there must be a sacrifice— a sinless sacrifice. The forgiveness of sin is by a bloody sacrifice. Our sins were not forgiven by the perfect life of Christ, but by the atoning death of God's Lamb. For God to forgive our sin, divine justice must be satisfied. That is what our Lord did for us. For in that he died, he died unto sin once (Rom 6: 10).
