How do we know if we are truly born again?

Answered in 6 sources

Evidences of the new birth include a deep sense of sin, an inability to please God in the flesh, and a true understanding of Christ's work.

Knowing one is truly born again involves recognizing several key evidences of regeneration. First, a regenerated individual will have a profound and unrelenting awareness of their own sinfulness, as exemplified by figures like Paul and Isaiah who cried out their wretchedness before God. Additionally, there is a realization of one's inability to please God without faith, as expressed in Romans 8:8, where it's stated that 'in the flesh, no man can please God.' Importantly, a clear view of and faith in Jesus Christ's redemptive work is fundamental; true believers understand who He is and what He has accomplished for them, finding their identity and assurance in Him alone. Lastly, perseverance in the faith serves as a significant indicator, affirming that genuine believers will continue seeking and clinging to Christ throughout their lives.
