What does the Bible say about being a sinner?

Answered in 18 sources

The Bible teaches that all men are sinners and that until they recognize their sinfulness, they cannot see their need for Christ.

The Scripture clearly states that all men are sinners, coming into the world at enmity with God (Romans 5:12). However, only those whom God has done a work of grace in their hearts believe themselves to be sinners (Romans 3:23). The Apostle Paul, in his confession, illustrates this condition when he states that in his flesh dwells no good thing (Romans 7:18). Understanding our sinfulness is crucial, as it allows us to appreciate the grace of God in sending Christ to save sinners, of whom Paul claimed he was the chief (1 Timothy 1:15). Thus, acknowledging our sinfulness is the first step towards recognizing our need for a Savior.
