What does the Bible say about the authority of Christ?

Answered in 31 sources

The Bible reveals that Christ possesses all authority as the eternal Son of God, given power over all creation and the ability to grant eternal life to His chosen people.

In the Bible, particularly in Matthew 28, Jesus declares, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.' This establishes His supreme authority not only as the Creator who made all things (Colossians 1:16) but also as the one who has the authority to represent His elect before God. The authority of Christ is foundational in the covenant of grace, where He agreed to be the mediator and surety of God's people, accomplishing their redemption and providing them with eternal life (John 17:2).
