What does the Bible say about the role of a high priest?

Answered in 9 sources

The Bible describes a high priest as someone who represents people to God, notably in Hebrews 7:26-28, which highlights Christ as the ultimate high priest.

In Hebrews 7, the role of a high priest is illustrated through Christ, who uniquely represents mankind to God. Unlike the Levitical priests, who were sinful and had to offer sacrifices for their own sins, Christ, as the ultimate high priest, is holy, harmless, and undefiled. He does not need to make daily sacrifices but offered Himself once for all, providing a perfect and complete atonement for sin. Thus, He stands in an unchangeable priesthood, able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him.
