What does the Bible say about the role of the high priest?

Answered in 4 sources

The Bible describes the high priest as the mediator who offers sacrifices for sins, but Christ is our ultimate High Priest who enters the heavenly tabernacle with His own blood.

In the Old Testament, the high priest served a vital role as the mediator between God and the people, entering the holiest place once a year to offer sacrifices for his own sins and the sins of the people (Hebrews 9:6-7). This sacrificial system illustrated the need for atonement and God's provision for sin. However, Christ, as our ultimate High Priest, fulfills and surpasses this system. By His own blood, He entered the greater and perfect tabernacle that is heavenly, granting us eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:11-12).
