Turn with me if you would now
to Romans chapter 8. Romans chapter 8. As I mentioned to you a moment
ago in the Bible study, We looked at something that was a very
critical subject, very critical, very critical
thing for us to know and understand, really understand. The title
of the Bible study was, does God want everybody to be saved? That's a critical question to
know the answer to. Does God want everybody to be
saved? Well, for the message this morning,
I have something that is equally as urgent for us to know and
understand. This is something that I want
to make sure every person here, from the oldest person to the
youngest person, understands. My prayer is that every person
here might understand what I'm saying. This is so critical. So, so critical. This is something
that we do not naturally know. We are not born in our physical
earthly condition knowing this. This is something that God must
reveal through his word to a person. Only way this knowledge comes,
God must reveal it through the word. So I pray God will reveal
it to us. I pray he'll reveal it to us
right now. Now our text today is going to be verses 32 to 34,
Romans 8, 32 to 34, but let's begin reading in verse 28. And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are the
called according to his purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He
also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that
He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom
He did predestinate, them He also called. And whom He called,
them He also justified. and whom he justified, them he
also glorified. What shall we then say to these
things? If God be for us, who can be
against us? Now verse 32 says, he that spared
not his own son, but delivered him up for us all,
How shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the
charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who
is He that condemneth? It is Christ that died. Yea,
rather, that is risen again. who is even at the right hand
of God, who also maketh intercession for us. He said in verse 32,
God the Father spared not his own son. God the Father delivered
him up. In verse 34, he said, it is Christ
that died. It is Christ that is risen again. It is Christ who is right now
at the right hand of God. And it is Christ who is right
now, currently making intercession for us. Making intercession for
God's people. Now this is the urgent message
of the morning, okay? THIS IS WHAT I PRAY GOD MIGHT
REVEAL TO US. THERE IS A VERSE OF SCRIPTURE
THAT PERFECTLY DECLARES ALL OF THAT. THERE'S ONE VERSE OF SCRIPTURE
THAT PERFECTLY SUMMARIZES WHAT ALL THAT JUST SAID AND WE READ
IT JUST A MOMENT AGO IN OUR BIBLE STUDY. ALRIGHT, IF YOU'LL TURN
WITH ME BACK TO FIRST TIMOTHY CHAPTER 2. First Timothy 2, let's read verse
5 together. It says, For there is one God
and one Mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus. What urgent and critical information
to know. I'm telling you what urgent,
urgent, urgent. Men are going to meet God at
all moments in time. In the span of time that I read
that, who knows how many souls stood before the throne of judgment?
Who knows? All over this world, souls are
being ushered into the presence of God. That is urgent, urgent,
urgent, critical information. There is one mediator between
God and man. One mediator. I want the world
to hear this. I do, I want the world to know
this. There is one mediator. There's only one mediator between
God and men. Now, what is a mediator? What is, that's a big word, what
is a mediator? A mediator is a person who reconciles
two people who are at odds with each other. A mediator is a person who brings
two people who are in a conflict, two people who are in disagreement, disagreement with each other,
two people who are severed from each other, severed from fellowship. severed
from communication, severed from unity. A mediator is a person who brings
those two people back together. and restores their love for each
other. They were at odds with each other.
They were enemies of each other. No communication with each other.
No fellowship with each other. No union with each other. A mediator
is a person who takes those two people and restores their love
for each other. And restores their fellowship
with each other. And restores their oneness and their happiness
together. Brings them back together. into
unity. That's what a mediator is. Now
every person on this earth is a sinner. Every person on this
earth. Some know it and will admit it. Some know it but won't admit
it. And some in absolute ignorance
and blindness, bless their hearts, they don't know it. They can't
see it in themselves, but it's there. It's still there. It's in every man and woman.
Every person on this earth is a sinner. All have sinned and
come short of the glory of God. And that sin, what sin is, That sin has severed every person
on this earth from God. This is critical information
because people don't know this. They go around saying me and
Jesus have a good thing going. That sounds like a person who
is severed from God. Men and women don't know this. Sin has severed every person
on this earth from God, in this sinful flesh. We are all in our natural born condition,
severed from the glory of God. We are severed from His love. Think about that. People, you
know, well, God is love. God is everywhere. God loves
us. We are naturally severed from His love. On down, it's
going to tell us in Romans 8 where the love of God is. In our natural condition, though,
we're severed from His love, we're severed from His fellowship.
Outside of Christ, outside of praying through the work and
blood and of Christ. Men and women are praying but
it's not going past the ceiling. It's not making it to Him. Outside
of the intercession of Christ and the Spirit offering those
prayers all the way up to the throne of God, they're not reaching
Him. We're severed from His fellowship,
severed from communication, severed from His way. Our sin has severed our heart
and desire for Him. The scripture says he came unto
his own, and his own received him not. He came to those that
were not his own, not his elect, and they didn't receive him either,
but he came unto his own, the ones he chose and came for, and
his own received him not. The scripture says that every
soul on this earth, including us, Every soul on this earth,
in the flesh, despised Him and rejected Him. What that means
in layman's terms is, this is just such a harsh word to me,
but this is what it means. Hated Him. That's what despised
means. Hated Him. Spit on Him. Cursed Him. You talk about at odds. You talk
about conflict and separation, so much so that the scripture
says, even concerning God's people, all of them became ungodly. All of them ungodly. Now, what this means is we need
a mediator. That's what this means. We need
a mediator. Our only hope of being spared
the wrath of God for the conflict and the rebellion and the separation
that we chose to have with Him. We chose to have this. Our only hope of being spared
the wrath of God against us and being reunited back with Him
To an eternity of fellowship with Him, this is our only hope,
we need a mediator. We need a mediator. We need a
mediator who will appease God's wrath for us. We need a mediator
who will make peace with Him for us. We need a mediator who will go
to Him on our behalf. That's what a mediator does.
Someone who will go to Him on our behalf and standing right
there in His presence will plead for us, crying, Father, forgive
them. They know not what they do. We need a mediator who will and
can. That's what we need. One who
is both willing and able to reconcile us back to God. We'll listen
to this. First Timothy 2 verse 5 says,
there is one. There is one. There is one. There is one. There is one. There is one. Verse five says,
for there is one God and one mediator between God and man,
the man, Christ Jesus. I was going to quote this to
you, but let's, let's read it. Go over with me to, to, uh, first
John two, first John chapter two. This is a wonderful verse. 1
John 2 verse 1. It says, My little children,
these things write I unto you that you sin not. Here's the
Word of Scripture. Don't sin. Don't sin. These things write I unto you
that you sin not. Don't sin. Don't you wish you could do that
though? Okay, I'm going to stop sinning. Can't be done by sinful
flesh. It's just like telling a dog,
stop being a dog. She can't do it. My little children,
these things write unto you that you sin not, but he said, and
you're going to, and if any man sin, we have an advocate with
the father. We have a mediator. with the
Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." That's the most relieving. There is one. That's the wonderful
news. Great news. There is one. And here's the word of exhortation. There is one. There's only one.
The man, Christ Jesus. Turn with me over to Ephesians
chapter 2. Ephesians 2 verse 11. Wherefore
remember that you being in time past Gentiles in the flesh who
are called uncircumcision by that which is called the circumcision
in the flesh made by hands. That at that time you were without
Christ being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers
from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God
in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, ye who
sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ."
Oh, the reconciling blood of Christ. The glue. that cinched God and
his people back together. Verse 14 says, For he is our
peace, who hath made both one. What does that mean? Who hath
made both one. That means he joined himself
to us. He made himself to be one with
us. That's how he brought us back
to God. Verse 14 says, HE IS OUR PEACE, WHO HATH MADE BOTH
ONE, AND HATH BROKEN DOWN THE MIDDLE WALL OF PARTITION BETWEEN
US, HAVING ABOLISHED IN HIS FLESH THE ENMITY, THE HATRED. THAT'S WHAT THAT MEANS. ENMITY
IS ENEMIES. HATRED, CONFLICT. HE BROKE DOWN
THE WALL BETWEEN THE ENEMIES. Verse 15, having abolished in
his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained
in ordinances, for to make in himself of twain one new man,
so making peace. By uniting himself with our enmity,
and taking the punishment for us that all of God's enemies
are owed and will receive. By uniting himself with our enmity,
in doing that, he united us with his peace. He is in perfect peace with the
Father. The Lord Jesus Christ is in absolute
perfect peace with the Father. And in being united with Him,
He made us to be in perfect peace with the Father. Verse 15 says,
Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments
contained in ordinances, for to make in Himself of twain one
new man, so making peace, and that he might reconcile both
unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby."
And in my center margin, thereby means in himself. He slayed the
enmity in himself. Verse 17, "...and came and preached
peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh,
for through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the
Father." That's a mediator. That's our mediator. That's the
only mediator that there is. Man thinks that he can be his
own mediator. Man thinks that he can approach
God on his own behalf. and mediate for himself. He thinks
that he can appease God by his own merit. He thinks he can go
back and right his own wrongs. That's what he thinks. Man thinks
he can reconcile his own sin. I need to be reconciled. I'm
going to go reconcile my own self, my own sin. If man tries
to approach God in his own merit, by his own works, representing
as his own mediator. After he realizes that the Lord
will immediately show him and prove to him that all of his
righteousnesses, everything he thinks is good and that he's
gonna bring back and appease God with and satisfy God with.
Once he realizes that all of his righteousnesses are really
just filthy rags before God because they're all ruined by sin. After
man realizes that not only can he not mediate for himself, but
now he's standing before God's judgment throne without a mediator. That's the first thing that man's
going to realize. Number one, I cannot mediate for myself.
Number two, I'm standing before God's judgment throne without
a mediator. And once man realizes that, he
will receive the very same judgment and suffering that Christ received as the substitute for his people.
The same one. If man tries to mediate on his
own, he's going to receive the same judgment outside of Christ
that all of God's people received in Christ. Same one. There is
one mediator. This is what I want us to walk
away with. This is the one thing. There is one mediator between
God and man. The man, Christ Jesus. Only one. Turn with me over to
2 Corinthians chapter 5. 2nd Corinthians 5 verse 17, it
says, therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold,
all things are become new. And all things are of God who
hath reconciled us to himself. Man doesn't reconcile himself
to God. God reconciles man to Himself. Verse 18 says, All things are
of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and
hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. to know that
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing
their trespasses unto them. That means not acknowledging
any of their trespasses to be on them. When he looked at them,
he didn't see one sin on them. Why not? Where were they? WHERE DID HE SEE THEM? WHERE
DID HE ACKNOWLEDGE THEM TO BE? ON CHRIST HIS SON, THE MEDIATOR. ON THE MEDIATOR. VERSE 19 SAYS
GOD WAS IN CHRIST, RECONCILING THE WORLD UNTO HIMSELF. WHAT THAT MEANS IS, VERSE 21,
IT SAYS HE MADE HIM TO BE SIN. who knew no sin, that we might
be made the righteousness of God in him." That's what it took
for Christ to be our mediator. That's what it took for Christ
to reconcile us back to God. He had to trade places with us.
He had to step into the place of separation so that we might
be able to step into the place of union. He gave up his own
standing with the Father. And he took our standing with
the Father so that we could give up our standing with the Father
and take his. He cried, my God, my God, why
hast thou forsaken me? So that we could cry, Abba, Father. Now that's a mediator. That is
a mediator. That is our mediator and that's
the only mediator there is. Now let's read Romans 8 one more
time. Go with me back to Romans 8. Verse 32 says, He that spared
not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, How shall
He not with Him also freely give us all things? He delivered Him
up for us all. Who are the us all? Verse 29
says, whom He did foreknow. The middle of verse 33 says,
God's elect. That's who He's talking about.
HE THAT SPARED NOT HIS OWN SON, BUT DELIVERED HIM UP FOR US ALL,
HOW SHALL HE NOT WITH HIM ALSO FREELY GIVE US ALL THINGS? HE'S
NOT JUST OUR MEDIATOR, HE'S ALSO OUR INHERITANCE. VERSE 33 SAYS WHO SHALL LAY ANYTHING
TO THE CHARGE OF GOD'S ELECT? IT IS GOD THAT JUSTIFIETH. IT'S GOD THAT RESTORED AND REDEEMED
AND REUNITED. Who's going to separate us from
Him? We've been reunited. Who will lay anything to the
charge? Verse 34, who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that
died, yea rather that is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. The right hand of God means the
seat of honor. And it says, He also maketh intercession
for us. Turn with me to one more place.
Go with me to Hebrews 7. Hebrews 7, verse 25. It says, wherefore he is able
also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing
he ever liveth to make intercession for them. There's only one man
who can plead for us. And I love the thought, you know,
sometimes we wonder, I know Christ put away my sin, but why can't
I stop? Why am I still a sinner? And
he ever lives, he makes intercession for us, and he ever liveth to
make intercession for us. He is seated in the seat of honor. He's seated at the right hand
of God. That means God the Father says to him, Thy throne, O God,
is forever and ever. Whatever you say, that's the
way it is. And every time, there we are,
going through this life, carrying out our sin, poor pitiful us,
ruined us in the flesh. Every moment. You know, man at
first thinks he sins once or twice a month. Then he starts
to realize maybe it's more like once or twice a week. Then he
starts to realize maybe it's more like once or twice a day.
And then he starts to realize it's what I am. I can't get away
from it. My every thought, every breath
I breathe is just inhaling and exhaling sin. And at every moment
in time, the one seated in the seat of honor says to his father,
I paid for that. I paid for that. I paid for that. covered in the blood, he ever
lives to make intercession and mediate for us. Let's all cry out to him, Lord,
mediate for us, mediate for me. Cry that out to him, Lord, mediate
for me. Make intercession for me. Make peace through your blood
for me. I see that there's one God and
there's one mediator between God and me. And it's you. You're my only hope. I need you.
I need you. We sing, even me, even me, let
thy blessing fall on me. And let it fall on my brethren
too. Mediate for us. Alright, let's all stand together.
