Turn with me back now to 1 Peter
3. The Apostle is telling us here
in verse 15. Sanctify the Lord God in your
hearts. He is always talking about suffering.
Now in verse 13 and 14, and who is he that will harm you if you
be followers of that which is good? But if you suffer for righteousness
sake, happy are you, blessed are you, be not afraid of their
terror, neither be troubled. But sanctify the Lord God in
your hearts. Be ready always to give an answer
to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that's in
you with meekness and with fear. When He says, sanctify the Lord
God in your hearts, we can't make God any more holy than He
is. God is holy, infinitely holy,
immaculately holy. And we can't make Him anything
else than that. But when He says, sanctify the
Lord God in your hearts, He means that we declare Him to be holy. We declare him to be righteous. We declare him to be holy. And we proclaim him to be holy. We proclaim him that way. And
we regard him that way. We think of him that way. That's
our thoughts about God. Is that he is high and holy and
lifted up. And he inhabits eternity. And
holy is his name. Everything about him, you put
holy before every one of his attributes. Holy before every one of His
attributes. And we call Him our Holy and
Sovereign Lord. But there's two ways that we
sanctify the Lord God. And He says, sanctify Him in
your heart. We sanctify Him externally when
we obey His commands, do His will, gather together like we
do tonight to worship Him together, praise Him, bless Him, call on
Him, And declare His glory every opportunity we get when we meet
like this here. That's what we're doing tonight.
We're sanctifying the Lord God. We're declaring Him. We're praising
Him. We're worshiping Him. We're honoring
Him tonight. We do seek to do His will and
obey His commandments. That's to sanctify the Lord God
in your hearts. And then we sanctify Him in our
hearts. That means that we set Him in our hearts and in our
minds to be as He is. We wouldn't change Him for 10,000
worlds like this here. If it meant that none of our
children would be saved if we had to change God, we would not
change Him. Because we regard Him in our
hearts and in our minds. And we sanctify Him unless we
truly love Him, and believe Him, and praise Him, and worship Him
in our hearts. Everything else we do don't amount
to anything. That's what he means. Sanctify the Lord God in your
hearts. You can go through all the outward forms and motions.
We can call him God. We can call him sovereign. We
can call him Lord. But unless he is all those things
in our hearts, our worship is nothing but vain. So sanctify
the Lord God in your hearts. That means you set him apart
as he is in your hearts, in your minds, in your public worship,
and in your very soul. When you think, when you're alone
and you start thinking about God, And you start pondering
God, start pondering how glorious He is and what a being He is.
Sometimes you get to thinking about it and you just get lost
wondering. You know, this is the thing about scriptures, the
scriptures leads us in wonder. When it talks about God, how
do you describe God who inhabits eternity? How do you describe God who puts
all the stars in the heavens and calls every one of them by
name? How do you describe a God, say
the part in your heart, who numbers the hairs of your head? And He takes the waters of this
world and holds them in the holler of His hand. Huh? And that's the God with
whom we have to do. That's what I mean when we talk
about Him in regarding this way. That's safe to find the Lord
God. That's all it means. And we can't do anything else,
can we Brady? And for us as believers, that's
the way it is. That's the way it is. We don't
talk about what He can do, we talk about who He is. What He's
done. In all of His love. And then He says here, And know
when you sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, be ready always
to give an answer. Give an answer is the reason
of the hope that's in you. Give an answer. And I'll tell
you, I ask this question often times, what's God's justification
to accept you? Not your justification, what's
God's justification for accepting me and you? And He says you'll
be ready to give an answer. And when somebody asks you, you've
got to tell them why you believe your sins are gone. You've got
to tell them why you believe your name is written in the book
of life. Why you believe that you're not under any condemnation
now or never will be? Huh? And you tell them, if they
ask you, you have to tell them about, you're going to live with
Christ eternally and reign with Christ eternally. And oh, listen,
and be ready always, and here's the secret to it, give a scriptural
answer. Most folks couldn't give you
a scriptural answer, you ask most people all they interact
in, Are you ready to go to heaven? Would you go to heaven tonight
if you died? They don't never want to talk about sin. Don't
never want to talk about Christ putting away sin. The only thing
they're interested in is will I get to go to heaven when I
die? Listen, you won't get to go if
you don't know Christ. And that's the issue that we
got to be with. And that's when anybody gives us answers to a
question, we ain't got to answer them rightly. I've asked people
that question before, and I've had some really strange answers.
Really strange answers. My guess, the strangest answer
that I had was, as the fellow says, I said, well, he had two experiences. He's
seen a great light, and God spoke to him, and I said, well, which
one do you trust? He said, both of them. That's not a scriptural answer.
And oh, listen, and so we want to give a scriptural answer.
And why would we answer B? Well, I've got a righteousness. And whose righteousness is it?
It's the Lord Jesus Christ's righteousness. You mean you don't
have one? No. He is. I've got His. Do you
live right? I live in His righteousness.
I live by His righteousness. Jehovah's akin you. The Lord
Jesus, our righteousness. And that's what we tell them.
And we tell them that our Lord Jesus Christ justifies us by
His blood. His blood was what made an atonement
for our sin. His blood is what God our Lord
went into the presence of God and offered there and put away
our sin and justified us. And right now in the sight of
God my justification sits right there. My blood's been applied
and God sees that sweet smell and savor and I'm justified in
God's sight because of Christ's blood. and justified freely by
his blood. And oh beloved, and I tell you
what, we tell them that we got a mediator between us and God.
He's not the Pope, he's not a priest, and he's not a Baptist preacher.
He's one man, the Lord Jesus Christ. One person that we come
into the presence of God by. One person that God accepts us
through. One person that God will hear
us when we speak. And that God will speak to us
through that man and that man alone. That's a pretty good answer,
wouldn't you say? And then look what it says here
about how to answer him. He says, you give a reason to
hope that's in you with meekness and with fear. Meekness and fear. Give your answer in a humble
fashion. Don't be overbearing. For we
are what we are by the grace of God. God made us what we are.
What we have, what we know, what we do, everything is by the grace
of God. And he says, give the answer with the fear of the Lord.
And what that means is you be sure of whatever you say, that
God gets all the glory. Don't you take none to yourself.
Though we can't talk about faith, He gave it to us. Repentance,
He gave it to us. Justification, He did it. So
when you answer with fear and fear of the Lord, you be sure
that He gets all the glory. And I tell you, and do it respectfully,
the person who asks you may be somebody that's really seeking
the Lord, looking for a real answer. So you've got to be very
careful about those things. And then in verse 16. Having
a good conscience. Now see this is continued on
in fear. And you answer because you're having a good conscience
that, whereas they speak evil of you, As evildoers, they say you're
an evildoer, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good
manner of life in Christ. If we're going to confess before
men in this world that we're the sons of God, that we're the
children of God. If we're going to lay claim that
we're in the family of God, that we're in the body of Christ.
Let's make sure, let's make sure that we've got this good conscience.
A conscience void of offense, a conscience that's been purged
with the blood of Christ. A conscience that doesn't condemn
us and doesn't make us feel guilty all the time that we have this
communion with Christ. And you see this with the heart
that a man believes under righteousness. And men may slander you. They
may revile you. They may say you're a fool for
believing what you believe. I think I've told you this before.
A man told Todd Mivar up there one day, said there's enough
people to believe what you believe to fit in a phone booth. And he's got some, he's got,
y'all been up there his place, they're fixing to have to add
on again. They've done, added on once and
fixing to have to add on some more. Ain't that a blessing? That's bigger than a phone booth.
There's more of us that can fit in a phone booth. But that's
what they do, they speak of you as evildoers. We talk about the Lord Jesus
Christ, they want to talk about what their works is. They want
to talk about their faith. They want to talk, and listen,
beloved, and let them talk about us as evildoers. Let them call
us, let them go ahead and say that we preach infancy. Let them say whatever they want
to say. What we must do, by God's blessed grace, Is he our manner
of life? Centered on Christ? Living on
Christ? Believing Christ? Following Christ? And make our life Christ, because
he is our life. And whatever they say about you,
they've got to back up and say, well, whatever they believe,
they believe it and they live it. They live, they talk about
Christ, they live Christ. They live Christ. And I tell
you something, did you all read that note that my sister-in-law
put up out there on the, oh my, you need to read that. Heard
my sister said over here, my sister-in-law, my sister, and
then there's in these services, they said they've never been
in anything like, they never know anything like this ever
existed. One of them don't go to church
at all, the other's a Lutheran. She said, I've never experienced
anything like it. I never know anything like this ever. I didn't
know there was a place that existed like it. Didn't know where people
can feel so free and feel so much love and feel so much power. And people praising and honoring
God. And love Bruce Messi Sunday morning. She said, boy, you can never
tell, may you end up down here, she said. Jesus loved him. Wouldn't
that be something, Lord, do something? Wouldn't that be something? But
that's what I'm talking about, that our manner of life, let them speak
evil of us, but let our life with Christ, and our living with
Christ, let that be our testimony. Let that, let them say whatever
they will, let us, our manner of life in Christ, be our answer
towards Him. be our answer to all that they
may be ashamed and they will be at the last day they really
will be then look what he says in verse 17 for it's better you
see how this progresses here for it's better if the will of
God be so that you suffer for well doing than for evil doing
if you're going to have to suffer if you're going to have to suffer
it's better to suffer for right than for evil. And I tell you
what he says here, if it's better if the will of God be so that
you suffer for well doing than for evil doing. Well I tell you
I know this without a shadow of a doubt. All things, all things
are ordered by the will of God. St. Christians 5 verse 18 says
this, for all things are of God. And you remember Daniel 4.35
we haven't quoted in a long time. that God, all the inhabitants
of the earth are reputed as nothing and God doeth according to his
will in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of
the earth and no man can stay his head or say unto him, what
doest thou? What are you doing? So his will
is always done and if it's his will and I mean even the sufferings
and afflictions of his people they're his will I mean, every
suffering, every affliction, every burden we have is the will
of God. And that's why these afflictions
and these things that God calls us to go through, that's why
we have to bear them with patience and just wait and just be still
and wait on God. And if it's the will of God for
you to suffer for righteousness sake, it's much, much better
to suffer for the gospel and for righteousness sake than suffering
for something evil you've done or something wrong you've done.
And I tell you what, all men are going to suffer who are evil
and don't know God. Every one of them is going to
suffer. And what suffering are they going to hear? And then
he goes on to say, he says, talking about suffering, he says now
he's going to talk about Christ's suffering. In verse 18, For Christ
also hath once suffered for our sins, the just for the unjust,
that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh,
but quickened by the Spirit. Now he's talking about suffering.
And so he comes to the suffering of Christ. If you think you suffer,
and you bear it patiently, and it's the will of God for you
to suffer for righteousness, the will of God that you suffer
afflictions and burdens and heartaches and sorrows and suffering in
your body and your mind and your soul. He says we can approach
this person two ways. First of all is Christ our example.
He says, be so the will of God that you suffer for well-doing.
And we as believers, before God, honest before God, honest before
God and men, if we are ridiculed, misunderstood, called upon to
suffer unjustly, remember this, the Lord Jesus Christ was unjust
and He suffered. He suffered. And I tell you he
was the just and the holy one and the sinless son of God. And
he was despised and rejected of men and hated of men. And
when he suffered he did not suffer for any evil he ever did. He
suffered not for his sins but for our sins. And he did this
that he might bring us to God. The only way he's got to be the
one to bring us. And you know what it says over
in Hebrews, He's going to bring many sons all the way to glory. And then we always look at it
this way. For Christ also hath once suffered
for sins that just for the unjust that He might bring us to God.
And we also view this as Christ our Redeemer, Christ our Savior.
God is holy, God is righteous, God is just. And there's no circumstances
by which He will clear the guilty. He will not clear the guilty.
His law must be honored, His law must be upheld, His law must
be fulfilled. His justice, justice that demands
the payment for sin, it must be satisfied. And God will not
and cannot clear and kill the guilty man. He can't do it. And as God chooses to justify
us, forgive us, and put our sins away, He's got to do it consistently
with His holiness, and His nature, and His character, and His law,
and His justice, and His wrath. He's got to do it consistently
with Himself. And I tell you, this is why,
bless His name, this is why Christ came. This is why the Lord Jesus
Christ obeyed the law, He said, which of you convinces me of
sin? I came not to destroy the law and the prophets, but to
fulfill them. And I tell you, He obeyed that
law in His flesh. And He came, beloved, and that's
why He died on the cross. That's why He bore our sins.
That's why He was the just for the unjust. That God might be
just. God might be holy. God might
be righteous. And when He displays His love
and mercy, He does it on the basis of upholding His own character
and what His Son did for us. Oh, what a gospel we've got.
What a gospel we've got. And all it says here, Christ
was put to death in the flesh. That means He was put to death
in a human body. That body that he lived in, that
body that he dwelt in, that body that he lived in in this earth,
that's what he was put to death in. In his body. But look what it says, but he
was quickened, quickened by the Spirit. But he was raised from
the dead. How? By the Holy Spirit, by his
own Spirit. He was raised in His divine nature,
and He was raised by the eternal Spirit of God. And I tell you,
beloved, our Lord Jesus Christ always existed. He is the eternal
Son of God. He existed in His eternal nature
and spirit before the world ever began. He says, when God laid
the foundations of the earth, I was by His side. When He set the mountains in
place, I was right there. Our Lord Jesus Christ, I'm telling
you what, before the worlds were ever made, before Abraham was
ever brought into existence, and even in the days of Noah.
Our Lord Jesus Christ. Every time that you find God
visiting a man in the Old Testament, He's visiting him by Christ.
When you talk about God walking in the cool of the day in the
garden, where'd God walk in? He walks in Christ. When God
spoke to Abraham and came and appeared to Abraham, who do you
think he appeared to him as? When he was sitting in that tent
door and there's three men came walking up there, one of them
he said, it's the Lord. He said, shall we tell Abraham
what we're going to do? Abraham bowed and worshiped him.
And when that person had laid hold on Jacob, that was the Lord
Jesus Christ. And so you see, even in Noah's
day, look what it says here. Quickened by the Spirit, and
raised from the dead, and by this Spirit, by the eternal Spirit,
by them being raised from the dead, he went and preached unto
the spirits in the prison. Now what in the world does this
mean? I've heard people say that this means dispensation, especially
this, that he went into hell itself, And preach to the spirits
down there to give them an opportunity to be saved who wasn't saved
in the days of Noah. I don't believe that. I don't
believe that at all. I don't think that's what this
is teaching. All men are prisoners by the
Spirit. And only Christ by the Spirit
of God preaches to us through preachers. And He's the only
one that can preach to those spirits in prison. and set them
free from their prison. Is that not right? We were held captive by sin. Is that not a bound? Who can set us free from that
captivity of sin? And oh, listen, I tell you, he
preached to men who are now, now in the regions of the damned.
You see, the gospel of God's Lamb is no new message. It's
the word of faith in and by the Spirit of Christ that every prophet
and prophecy that was ever mentioned in the Old Testament and preached
by any preacher, any prophet, was about the Lord Jesus Christ.
To Him all the prophets give witness. And then He goes on
and tells us who these people were and how He preached to them. which sometimes were disobedient
when the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while
the ark was a-preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were
saved." Now how did Christ preach to these people? Preach to them
through Noah. It says that Noah was a preacher
of righteousness. Ain't that what it says over
in Hebrews? That Noah was a preacher of righteousness. He preached
to them people. He preached to them when he was
a-preparing that ark. There was men who worked on that
ark that went to him. There was men who helped put
the pitch on that ark who carried. And they had this movie Noah
out here a while back, and I ain't into sin, I don't want to sin,
I ain't interested in sin. But everybody, all they could
say about that movie was, they said, oh, I just can't believe
that God would damn a whole world like that. And I'll tell you what, I don't have
any problem with what God does. What amazes me is that He saves
anybody. That He comes and saves some. Don't leave all of us like that.
When He says, the wickedness of the whole earth has come up
before me. The man's mind is only evil continually. There was never a good thought
in those people's minds. They were just constantly evil,
thinking, manipulating, worrying, and threatening, doing, and wickedness. And God said, oh listen, Noah
prepared an ark and I'm going to save you. And when you preach,
you preach for 120 years and I'll see that they hear the gospel
so that God will be just in damning them people. That wasn't nobody
went to hell didn't have the gospel preached to them. In Noah's
day there, not in Noah's area, let's put it that way. But I
say he went by the ministry preacher of righteousness and he preached
to those wicked, disobedient people. And Noah preached and
built an ark before their very eyes. But this was Noah doing the preaching,
but God was speaking in him, warning in him, and teaching
through him. That's what he's talking about here. And that's
what we do, we preach here to people. Only God can set you
free. God can loose you from your chains.
And then look what he says here in verse 21. That is, few aged
souls were saved by water. Now listen to what he goes on
to say. The life figure, that those people were saved. And
what does it mean, saved by water? Well, that ark, the rain started
falling and God broke up the deep. He started water gushing
up out of the earth. And rain coming down. And so
that ark was picked up. And it had water from beneath
and it had water from below. And those people were saved by
that water. Because that water couldn't get
in there. That water couldn't destroy. But they were saved,
and that water upheld them in that, and that wasn't us. He
said, that's just a figure. That's a figure of how a believer
in baptism. And he says, like that ark of
Noah. The family of Noah went into that ark, and they were
shut in by God Himself. And that represented them being
put in a place where they, beloved, were put in there, and that water
above them was like they were tines, like a burial. and they
were covered immersed in this water and then when that water
went down and that ark came and rested down and they opened that
door and walked out when that dove come back with a leaf in
her mouth and they got out and walked out that was just like
a resurrection they walked out on a new earth with a new life
and that was like a resurrection that is delivered from death
and judgment which claimed everybody else on the face of the earth.
And so he says the like figure, even baptism doeth now also save
us. Now watch this. Not putting away
the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward
God. Baptism does not do anything for the flesh. What it is, if
a man's got a good conscience toward God, he says, I want to
confess Christ in baptism. And that's what he means. Like
those folks who got in the ark, got in Christ, and they got in
that ark, and they was in that ark, and they come out on resurrection
ground, that's what a believer does, he has a good conscience
toward God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And what it
means is that when a believer is baptized, it's just a figure
of Christ's death, Christ's burial, and our resurrection
of our death to see in Himself, And being raised in Christ to
walk in newness of life. And I tell you, it's not baptism
that saves us, but who baptism represents. The Lord Jesus Christ. Don't put away the filth of the
flesh. What it is, is you've got a good
conscience. If Noah found grace in the eyes
of the Lord, he had a good conscience when he got in that ark. Had
a good conscience while he was preaching. And he had a good
one when he got out. Ain't that right? And I tell
you, it's not the cleansing of the flesh. It doesn't do that.
But what it represents is a living union with the Lord Jesus Christ.
And then look what he says. The like figure, even baptism
doeth also now save us, and then skip the parentheses, by the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. Listen. He says, you know, he
started out with suffering, and now look where he's at now. He's
gone. He's gone into heaven. Oh, he's gone into heaven. Oh,
what's he doing there? He's at the right hand of God.
He's in the position of power and authority and honor. The
honor says that person sits at your right hand. He says, this
is my right. He's the one that's going to do everything. And all
beloved, listen, he said he's gone into heaven, he's at the
right hand of God. And you know what he's doing
while he's there? Every angel, fallen angels, obedient angels,
elect angels, and every authority, every power is made subject unto
him. I'm telling you what, all angels,
demons, all authorities, kings, governors, rulers, demons, powers
in heaven, powers in earth, powers in hell, and all flesh is subject
unto Him. Ain't that right? He said in
John 17, and to that has given Him power, authority. Authority, and not only authority,
but He has actually got the power, the might, has given Him power
over all flesh. And you just give eternal life
to who you will. Isn't that right? Our Father, in the blessed name of
Christ our Lord, thank you for the good evening. Thank you for
your truth. Thank you for your precious word.
Oh, what a blessing. Oh, thank you for the Holy Spirit's
presence. Oh Lord, we need you, want you,
desire you. And embrace you and reach out
to you now, even now. You are all in all. We thank
you for the day. Give us restful nights, peaceful
nights. Meet the needs of these dear,

name. Amen. Let's turn to number 84. Number 84. Come, Thou long-expected Jesus,

to do. Thank you very much. I don't know. I don't know. I'm going to take a break. I don't want to do that. I don't
want to do that. I don't want to do that. I don't want to do that. My brother? So, it's one of the reasons that
girls don't do that. They're sort of not up for it. It's easy,
but it's not a good thing at all. It's not a good thing at
all. It's not a good thing at all. I don't know. I don't know. I
don't know. I don't know. Yeah. She was able and able to hear
to him, and they think that Gabe thinks she had a lot of wrong
answers in a short period of time, and he thinks that starship
Then she had a reaction to the medicine that we gave her before
the day, and that put her on the job. It went to an allergist
when they got back to Kingsport, and the allergist said, well,
something's happened. We can put you through an option
off to the extent that it helps, but you'll have to figure out
where it is, and you can't get it on the internet. Or you just... And, you know, we're not sure
what's going on, you know, which is even worse than what's going
on right now. So neurologists talked to me,
and I was talking to a couple of people in the class today,
and they were totally over-confident in what she was telling me. They
weren't sure that, you know, she won't hear something. They weren't 100% certain when
they called me that we could analyze that, and they didn't
think it would. She's got a strong bond between
my colleague and the funeral that she was exalted. That's not good enough. It's
not what you're doing. It's the worst. It's the worst.
It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. It's the worst. You know, I was
taking the e-mails, more or less, probably a hundred each day out
of Facebook. I was going to embrace Facebook
then. and I would just take all of
them home and give them to my son. So dad started forwarding
me, and I'm in the house, I think, and I steal some from Todd's
and I just, I keep putting them on and on and on. Well you know
Bruce's, I get Bruce's. And I was getting them in the
mail. And I get a lot of them in the
mail. I told Joyce that I had cancer.
Some of them, I just get so much mail about it. I'm not a good
reporter. I'm not a good speaker. That's what, not only is my brother-in-law
a good speaker, he just, I changed email addresses and didn't bother
letting him know. He would send three or four emails
at a time. quarter or whatever it is. And it's all good. They're all
good. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big
difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't
see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference.
I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't see a big difference. I don't
see a big difference. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going
to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be
like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to
be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be
like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to be like a bad woman.
I'm going to be like a bad woman. I'm going to Uh, now coffee's gonna come on the
28th, and I'm gonna have to find somebody to do the cleaning service
by then. I'm gonna have to find somebody
to do that. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not hurt. We got three preachers. So a lot of these preachers can't
read it. I'd like to do that. I'd like
to do that, because you were there, and you were the first
girl to get in there, and you know, the teachers, they'd always
be there. That's the way it is. I want
to meet the black people, because I don't know if you've ever been
down in a black setting. Get over there by my hand. Shit! Shit! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Please! Please! Please! Please!

That's too sharp. That's too sharp. I've been mad
for a while. But you don't preach and do it.
They do it. So you don't preach and just

it? He's already gotten Dave's happiness,
