If you would, you want to follow
along, look in Psalms 45, the 45th Psalm. I'm just gonna read the first
two verses. and stay mostly there, mostly.
Psalms 45 verse one. My heart is indicting a good
matter. I speak of the things which I
have made, touching the king. My tongue is the pen of a ready
writer. Thou art fairer than the children
of men, grace poured into thy lips Therefore
God hath blessed thee forever I'm gonna just stop right there
for now By way of introductions, I want
to say something There are some really good things in the book
of Psalms Really good things Uh, I heard about three decades
ago from a Henry Mahan. He says, if you look at the Proverbs
of Solomon, you'll see there in a lot of those Proverbs, things
that he picked up from his father in Psalms. Now, this is not listed as a
Psalm of David. It doesn't actually say who wrote
it. It says it's written to the chief
musician upon Shoshanim for the sons of Korah Mashil, a song
of loves. The scriptures totally agree
one with another because you will also find from the book
of Psalms, a lot of things quoted in the new Testament. by our
Lord, by the apostles, in the epistles, all of it. There's a bunch of it in there. The scriptures have a singular
story, a singular theme, a singular message. And that message is
Jesus Christ. He said himself, I am the way,
the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father
but by me. Now there are many things that
people think are true. And some of them actually might
be true. But there is only, and I'll make
this clear as I can, there is only one truth with a capital
T. And that is our Lord Jesus Christ. When it says you'll know the
truth and the truth will set you free, that's him. That's
him. It involves his word, yes. Why? Because he's in his word. He's
the message. He's the message of every psalm.
He's the message of every book in the Old Testament. He's the
message of all the gospels and the epistles and the revelations
and the book of Acts. He's the message. don't let any man tell you any
different. There is only one truth, one
with a capital T. And that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now, in particular, I do wanna tell you this is what I call
a messianic psalm. That's what some people call
it. Because if you got a Bible like mine, you'll see little
stars by particular verses. And those mean this, well, this
psalm is messianic. This verse is messianic. Well,
generally, the stuff in the middle is too, if we could see it. Sometimes you can, sometimes
you can't. But there are particular ones they do point out, and sometimes
that helps. But this particular psalm has
some verses that are quoted directly in the New Testament, and we'll
get to that after a little bit. The first thing I wanna point
about this psalm, is that it is, and it says it
in the title, this is a song of loves. A song of loves. Whoever wrote this psalm, whether
it was David or whoever, was writing of one that he loves. A song of loves. And a song of loves should be one thing in particular,
and that is this little word here, true. A song of love should
be true. A true song of love, this psalm
is, because it is full of the truth. Because this psalm is
a song from one who loves, and in this case, he tells you here
in the first verse, the king. This is a psalm of love for the
king. Now, there are, I can tell you
this, in this psalm, there are no names mentioned. And as far as I can tell, I mean,
unless you're really, if you read the rest of this psalm,
unless you're really trying to be flattering, there's no king
on this earth that fits this description. I mean, unless you're
just waxing poetic and throwing out hyperbole like water, because
we'll get to some of it. No, this is a song about the
king, the king of kings and the Lord of lords. And guess where it comes from.
The first verse states with these two words, my heart, my heart,
because a song of loves is to come from the heart. It's to
come from the heart. The head is involved. Yes. But the deepest feelings come
from within and those feelings in that heart bring forth thoughts, brings
forth thoughts. The Psalmist is saying that this
is coming from the deepest, truest thoughts and intents of his heart. It's my heart. And the heart
in the scriptures is referred to as a place where the deep
things are hidden and from which the hidden things are revealed. Good and bad. But this psalm
comes from my heart, the psalmist wrote, and it is a song of loves. Now the next part of the statement
says my heart is indicting a good matter. Okay, I admit it. I'll be honest. I had to look
that up. I didn't know what the word meant
right there. So I looked it up in the dictionary first, the
English dictionary. And then the definition of the
English word indicting means to write, to compose. But then I looked in Strong's
Concordance where it gives you the definition of the Hebrew
word. And that's even better. Because the word comes from a
root word that means this, to gush. To gush. To come forth with some force. To come forth because it has
to. My heart is gushing with a good
matter. Now that is something that'll
happen when you're in love. It has that imperative built
in it. It's the truth of the matter.
Because if your love for someone is strong, it will gush out your
heart. And sometimes you can't stop
it. Sometimes you can't even slow it down. My heart is gushing
in a good matter. The psalmist can't hold it in. It's got to come out. And how
does it come out? My heart is gushing in a good
matter. I speak. of the things which I have made
touching the king. When your heart gushes, your
mouth's gonna speak with love. When your heart gushes with love,
I speak the things of the king. Because if you're in love, true
love, you're gonna talk about it. If you're in love, That love
invades your thoughts. It occupies your thoughts. It
occupies your mind. And if you're in love, you will
focus on your love, the one you love. And this good matter has to do
with the king. I speak, I speak. My heart is gushing a good matter,
and I speak of the things which I have made, touching the king. What does this mean? Well, this
psalmist loves this king. This psalmist loves this king.
Now let's get this said here, right here, right now. Who's
the king here? It's Jesus Christ. You'll find
out for certain in verses six and seven. But I'll tell you
right now, who he's talking about is the Messiah, the anointed
one, Walter, the Christ, Jesus, the Christ. Because this can't be about an
earthly king, you'll see. Because no earthly king was ever
what this psalm declares this king to be. Not in truth, not
in truth. Because this is a psalm of the
king of glory. Strong in battle, righteous in
power, dangerous to his enemies, and beloved by his people. Because
if you truly know this king, your heart will gush with good
matters. And you'll have to speak of those
good matters. Let's jump right quick, just
in case there's any questions, look at verse six. Thy throne,
O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of thy kingdom is
a right scepter. Thou lovest righteousness and
hateth wickedness. Therefore God thy God hath anointed
thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows Now doesn't
that sound familiar? Well, it's because it is familiar
it is quoted by the writer of Hebrews in Hebrews chapter 1
almost word-for-word Hebrews 1 And verse eight, now we do have a
little interpretation by the writer of Hebrews, not by me, of who this is about. Now remember,
in verse four he says, talking about Jesus Christ being made
so much better than the angels. So we're still talking about
Jesus Christ. In verse eight of Hebrews one
says, but unto the Son, He saith, thy throne, O God, is forever
and ever. A scepter of righteousness is
the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness
and hated iniquity, therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed
thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. So who's the
king of Psalm 45? It's Jesus Christ. It's the Son of God. This is
a messianic song. And the psalmist is saying he
loves the Lord Jesus Christ. And it's coming out. It's coming
out. Why? Because if you love Christ,
you're gonna talk about Christ. If you love Christ, your thoughts
are going to be altered by that love. You're gonna think things
that you never thought before. You're gonna think in ways you
never thought before. And guess what? It's gonna come
out. It may not come out all the time.
I realize we've got business in this world to take care of,
and you've gotta take care of earthly things. But even while
you're taking care of earthly things, that love's in your heart. If he's there, he put it there. If his spirit came into you,
it's always there. And sometimes it gushes out. It gushes out. If you truly know this king,
your heart will gush with good matters. And you will speak of
the good matters of the king, of the king. And he says this, my tongue is
the pen of a ready writer. I can't hold back sometimes,
Mason. Can't hold back sometimes. Because a writer writes and a
speaker, a preacher, speaks, speaks. That's the metaphor. That's the metaphor. Because
when your heart gushes, your mouth is ready to speak. and you're not speaking of yourself.
You're speaking of the one you love. That's what gushes forth. If you don't love Christ, you
don't know Christ. That's just as plain as I can
be about it. I mean, I understand there's some fear. The fear of
the Lord is a real thing. And it's not just a reverential
law. People try to play it down. Well, that's just an awe you
feel of God. No, no, no. Seeing God has put
more people on their knees than anyone wants to admit to. But seeing God will make your
heart gush and your lips speak. Your tongue will speak of him.
His glory and his story and his purposes and his works in you
and in this book There are times you can't be
silent and Here's one when your heart gushes with love for him
Because you understand true love is not hot and cold Now sometimes
it might be hotter than others. It's not hot and cold, not true
love. And any lessening of the hot
part is my fault, not his. But the true love for him is
not hot and cold. It's always warm, it's always
hot. True love is ready to speak in
defense of his love. True love is ready to speak for
his love. And this king is perfect. And the one who loves this king
is ready to declare him. My tongue is the pen of a ready
writer. He's ready to go. So what's he
say? Thou art fairer than the children
of men. Grace is poured into thy lips,
therefore God hath blessed thee forever. Thou art fairer than the children
of men. That's Gushin right there. That's
Gushin. That's Gushin. Through the heart
of love, through the tongue, through the pen. Because he's
talking about the king. Thou art fairer than the children
of men. What does that mean? That means
that Jesus Christ is better is better You are fairer the word
actually translates the brightest He's the light he's the light
You are the most beautiful the most precious one On earth Our Lord came to earth. You are
fairer than the children of men. And then this statement, man,
this statement kind of stopped me. Grace is poured into thy
lips. Every word from the king's lips,
this king's lips, is gracious. Every word from the king's lips
this king is true It's true Because every word from this king's lips
is full of grace and truth Remember Isaiah When he saw the
Lord high and lifted up What'd he say? He said, woe is me. But he didn't stop there. He
said, woe is me, I'm undone. I'm undone. I'm a man of unclean,
what? Lips. Lips. And so is everyone that's around
me. I'm in the midst of a people of unclean lips. But this king,
this Jesus, This Christ, his lips, we sing the song, his lips
with grace or flow. He is the fullness of the Godhead
bodily in a body on this earth. He is the fullness. And from
his mouth, gracious things are spoken. We've got them written
down here. And we've got them written down
here, Old Testament and New. Can you imagine, can you even
imagine not telling a lie? I can't do it. I can't do it. See, this is the part the world
don't understand and doesn't seem to want to take into account.
I lie to myself. You understand? Not only do I
lie to other people, I lie to myself. The capacity of self-deception
of man is enormous. And I've lied to myself and only
found out about it later. I mean, that's how corrupt the
old man is in me. But this man, his lips, full
of grace, full of grace and truth, and truth. Oh, my. Therefore, God hath blessed thee
forever, forever, forever. What's that mean? Of his kingdom,
there is no end. Now, they can argue all they
want to. It doesn't matter. Jesus was king before he came. Jesus was born king when he came. And right now he is seated on
the right hand of the majesty on high. He's king now. And he's coming back again and
he's gonna have a name on his vesture and on his thigh. And
it's gonna say king of kings and Lord of lords. And Jesus
Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. So you
can argue all you want, it doesn't matter. I'm gonna believe the
scripture before I ever believe any man. I'm gonna believe the
scripture before I believe every man. This king is king. And he is blessed by God forever. Forever. Notice very carefully, verse
one tells of what the heart and the tongue say or do for those
that love the king. My heart gushes a good matter
and I readily speak with my tongue of the king. What do the scriptures say? What
did our Lord Jesus Christ himself say? Out. Out of the abundance
of the heart, what happens? The mouth speaks. The mouth speaks. A song of love comes forth from
the heart to speak of the one that you love. Out of the abundance
of the heart, the mouth speaks. The love of God is shed abroad
in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, given unto us. So what's all that mean? Look
at Romans 10. Just for a minute. Romans 10 beginning in verse
eight. But what saith it? The word is
nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart. That is the word of faith which
we preach, that if thou confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, Thou shalt be saved. Four, with a heart, man believeth
unto righteousness, and with a mouth, confession is made unto
salvation. When your heart gushes, you're
gonna speak. And if you know this one, you're
gonna confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth. But you can't do that until it's
in your heart. With the heart, the man believe it. It gushes out of the new heart
and the tongue speaks. Now, because right now, any gracious
words we know, any gracious words we speak, come from him. They come from him. The Messiah,
the Christ, the Son of God, the God of all grace, the Lord Jesus
Christ. Any truly gracious words that
gush from our hearts are the words that he has given us by
his Holy Spirit. Why? To speak of him, to speak
of him. He's gonna take the things of
mine and he's gonna show them to you. Because please understand this,
I have absolutely no gracious words to say about man. But I have, I do have gracious
words to speak to man. I have gracious words to speak
for man. This King, this Jesus Christ. Verse three says, gird thy sword
upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty,
and in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness
and righteousness. and thy right hand shall teach
thee terrible things. Here's one, thine arrows are
sharp in the heart of the king's enemies, whereby the people fall
under thee. Then it says, thy throne, O God,
is forever. This king, mighty in battle,
this king, a danger to his enemies. a slayer of his enemies. This
king saves sinners. Isn't that amazing? Grace is poured into thy lips
and grace comes out of his lips. He came, he said this, he came
to seek and to save that which was lost. And you look on. See it in, where is it? Verse 15. With gladness and rejoicing shall
they be brought. They shall enter into the king's
palace. You know why? Because he brought
them. And when he brings you, he's
gonna bring you in. It says what? The king's daughter is all glorious
within, within. Her clothing is of wrought gold. And he's gonna bring them in.
And they're gonna enter his palace. But you understand, the beggar
is lifted up off of a dunghill to be seated with kings and princes. But guess what? Her clothing
is brought gold. You're not going dressed as you
are. You're not going to enter into that palace dressed as you
are. Yes, you come just as I am. Yes,
you come like the prodigal son still sinking of the hog pit,
but by God, by his grace, which proceeds out of his mouth, which
he has promised you, will be clothed appropriately. Jesus brings into his palace
those who could not enter in on their own. Now there's some
that think they can, but it's not gonna happen. There's some
that think they can enter in on their own, they can help God. Don't you know? God has no hands
but your hands. God has no feet but your feet.
I don't read that anywhere in this book. And I'm gonna tell you what,
that never gushed out of the mouth or the heart of anyone
that loves the king. Because we need the king, he
don't need us. He brings in those who had no
way to enter in on their own. Because he brought in Abel and
Abraham, Moses, Rahab the harlot. He brought in Matthew, Mark,
Luke, John, Saul of Tarsus, Aquila, Priscilla, a beggar who was blind
from birth, and a thief on the cross. Today thou shalt be with me in
paradise. There are gracious words for
man. And what? Gracious words of the king for
man. He brings in everyone that the
father gave to him. And he clothes them to present
them to his father. And in him, we believers are
perfectly acceptable to God. In him. I started out with in
him, I'm gonna finish with in him. Because I don't want nobody
to get the wrong idea about this. I'm not standing as I am. No,
I'm standing as he sees his son in me. And it's only by his grace
that I do stand and speak. Because the family of God is
complete now in God's sight. And the family of God shall be
complete in his presence one day. One glorious day and from
there on out. How is this possible? How can
these things be? His throne is forever and ever. And the scepter of his kingdom
is a scepter of righteousness. Yes, our Lord has all power,
but he has all power in righteousness. Shall not the judge of all the
earth do right? You better believe he's gonna
do right. I guarantee you he's gonna do
right. And I also guarantee this, the world won't understand it. They won't. Because hey, I used
to be there. And guess what? I never understood
a thing of this. Mason, I didn't even know stuff
like this existed. Because I didn't know the king. but now that he has brought me
in, and I know that he, sometimes my heart does gush. And I've
got to speak. Even if I'm driving in my car
talking to myself. I preached to the stupid television
before too, Walter. I preached to the radio in my
car. Because sometimes it just comes out. And it's the good stuff that
comes out. I'm not gonna tell you about the bad stuff that
comes out of it. But this is it. If you love him,
speak. Speak. Speak of your love. Our Heavenly Father, thank you
for this time and this place. Your blessing on us. has always
been so great and so gracious. Be with Walter as he comes to
speak, give him the words we need to hear and give us ears
to hear and a heart to understand and to love our Lord, your son,
Jesus Christ. In whose name we pray. Amen.
