The Bible teaches that the church's life should be centered on living the gospel and engaging with one another in faith.
In 1 Peter 1 and the letters of Peter to the early church, we see a strong emphasis on the essence of the church's life revolving around the gospel. Peter reminds believers that their identity as individuals in Christ should reflect in their unity and collective worship as a body. Instead of becoming merely collectors of doctrine and knowledge, Christians are to embody their faith through action, striving for qualities like virtue, knowledge, and love, which serve as a true reflection of worship. Such engagement honors God and fulfills the church's calling to be effective and fruitful in its witness.
1 Peter 1, 2 Peter 1:3-10
God's grace is sufficient as it covers all our needs for godliness, as promised in His Word.
The assurance of God's grace stems from His divine power which has granted believers everything necessary to live and walk in godliness. As stated in 2 Peter 1:3, all things pertaining to life and godliness are provided through the knowledge of Him who called us. This underscores the truth that our sufficiency is not in our efforts but entirely in God's grace. When we grasp the depth of our salvation and the impact of Christ’s atoning work, we find security in our faith, knowing that it is upheld by grace alone—sovereignly given by God, ensuring that we are equipped to live as He commands.
2 Peter 1:3, 1 Peter 1:23-25
Living out the gospel is essential for manifesting faith and expressing gratitude for the grace received.
Christians are called not only to believe the gospel but also to live it out in their daily lives. This transformed life demonstrates the reality of their faith and manifests the grace they have received. In 2 Peter, the apostle emphasizes that the qualities of godliness must be evident and growing in a believer's life in order to avoid being ineffective (2 Peter 1:8). This does not mean that a Christian's salvation is contingent upon their actions; rather, it solidifies their witness and service to God, leading others to glorify Him. Living out the gospel exemplifies obedience and love, which are at the core of Christian worship.
