In his sermon titled "Responsibilities of the Ministries," John Chapman explores the sober responsibilities of both ministers and congregants, emphasizing the eternal significance of souls and the weight of preaching. He argues that true pastors are called to shepherd their congregations, as described in Hebrews 13:17-25, where believers are instructed to obey their leaders who are tasked with caring for their souls. Chapman stresses the weighty accountability that pastors hold before God and the necessity of preaching the whole counsel of God, including difficult topics like hell, to warn the lost (Ezekiel 33). The practical significance of his message lies in the call for congregants to listen attentively and support their pastors in prayer, fostering a community that grows in grace and knowledge of Christ.

Key Quotes

“You are eternal ... that child will live forever, one place or the other ... this is very sobering and we pray ... if we ask the Lord to speak, what are we to do? Here’s what we are to do. LISTEN!”

“To refuse to hear the gospel from true ministers is to refuse to hear the Lord Jesus Christ, and we’ll certainly grieve Him and be unprofitable for you.”

“Our God is a God of order. ... He’s given a pastor, a pastor teacher to guide, to instruct, and to watch over His church.”

“The responsible minister goes about his work with joy and not grief.”

What does the Bible say about the responsibilities of church leaders?

The Bible instructs church leaders to watch over the souls of their congregation with great care and accountability.

In Hebrews 13:17, it is stated that church leaders are to watch over the souls of their members as those who must give account. This highlights the heavy responsibilities that come with the pastoral ministry. Pastors are not only called to preach the gospel and teach God's Word, but they are also responsible for guiding and instructing the congregation both spiritually and morally. This role is characterized by a deep sense of accountability before God, making it essential for leaders to faithfully and boldly proclaim the truth without shying away from difficult topics, including sin and judgment.

Hebrews 13:17, Ezekiel 33:7-9

How do we know that submission to church leaders is important?

Submission to church leaders is important because they are tasked with caring for our souls and guiding us in faith.

Hebrews 13:17 emphasizes the importance of obeying and submitting to those who rule over us in the church. This submission is not blind but is rooted in the recognition that church leaders have a God-given responsibility to watch over our souls. They labor to teach and guide the congregation in the ways of the Lord. When members choose to submit to good leadership, they facilitate a healthier church environment where spiritual growth can flourish. It is worth noting that pastors are accountable for their teachings and actions before God, adding weight to the call for their congregation to willingly listen and submit to their guidance.

Hebrews 13:17

Why is the concept of conscience important for Christians?

The conscience is vital for Christians as it serves as a moral compass that reflects our relationship with God and His truth.

Conscience, as described in the sermon, is the inner awareness of moral good and evil that acts as a judge of our actions and thoughts. Before regeneration, our consciences may be corrupted, but through Christ, our hearts are cleansed, and we gain a clear conscience (Hebrews 10:22). This transformation enables us to discern right from wrong more accurately. The importance of having a sensitive and informed conscience cannot be overstated; it signifies our growth in grace and knowledge of Christ. As we align our hearts and minds with God's Word, our consciences can guide us towards living lives that are pleasing to Him.

Hebrews 10:22, Romans 2:15

What does the Bible teach about eternal souls?

The Bible teaches that all souls are eternal and will exist forever, either in communion with God or in separation from Him.

The sermon underscores the eternal nature of human souls, emphasizing that from the moment of conception, each individual is destined to exist eternally, whether in the presence of the Lord or in torment. This teaching is grounded in Scripture, which speaks to the reality of life after death. As believers, this doctrine reinforces the seriousness with which we must take the proclamation of the gospel. It is a sobering reminder that our lives and choices have eternal implications. The pastor's responsibility to warn the lost is paramount, as many may be unaware of their impending meeting with God and the consequences associated with it.

Hebrews 13, I'll try to finish this chapter and this epistle tonight. I titled this message, RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MINISTRY. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MINISTRY. You know, the ministry carries with it sobering. very sobering responsibilities on both sides of the pulpit both sides this side and that side it carries it carries sobering responsibilities it's a you know the being able to preach the gospel by the power of God by the gift of God is such a just such a humbling privilege As I said to you, I believe it was last week, that it amazes me that God saved me, but then He called me to preach the gospel that He ordained before the world began, that I would be a preacher of the gospel, a herald of the Lord Jesus Christ, that I would be allowed to stand here week after week and brag on the Lord Jesus Christ. But it also carries with it heavy responsibilities.

Your souls are immortal, eternal. You are eternal, you know that? From the very conception, when a child is conceived, that child is eternal. That child will live forever, one place or the other. EITHER WITH THE LORD OR IN TORMENT, BUT THEY WILL NEVER EVER CEASE TO EXIST. And what I have to say has to do with the GLORY OF GOD AND THE ETERNAL DESTINY OF YOUR SOUL. THAT'S YOU. YOU ARE A SOUL. And that weighs heavy, and I'm glad it does. I'm glad it does.

It ought to weigh heavy on every heart of those who preach the gospel. We are handling the gospel of God's glory and we're speaking to God's children, those whom Jesus Christ, the God of heaven and earth died for, and we're also speaking to people who are going to go out into eternity lost. lost not everyone who hears me preach or hears another pastor preach not everyone's going to be saved not everyone and that weighs heavy paul said knowing the terror of the lord we persuade men we persuade men i don't particularly like to talk about and i don't say a whole lot about it i don't like to talk about hell BUT I THINK THE LORD, I BELIEVE THE LORD HAS MORE TO SAY ABOUT THAT PLACE CALLED HELL THAN HE DID HEAVEN IN HIS MINISTRY. I LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND GLORY BUT WE DO HAVE TO WARN THE LOST. YOU'RE ABOUT TO MEET GOD. I DON'T KNOW WHEN THAT TIME WILL BE. I KNOW MOST PEOPLE when that time happens are surprised they're surprised I've seen unbelievers die and I mean they died what we call unexpectedly unexpectedly to us not to God not to God so this is very sobering it's very sobering and we pray listen we pray and ask God to be with us and to speak to us every time we meet together.

We ask the Lord to be here. We ask the Lord to speak. Speak to my heart, speak to your heart. And what are we to do if we ask the Lord to do that? If we invite the Lord, if I'm allowed to use that word for a minute, if we ask Him to be here and He comes, what are we to do? Here's what we are to do.

LISTEN! If you really believe the Lord is going to speak tonight, if you from your heart, if you believe that, you're going to listen. Every one of you, every one of you who are sheep, I know, are going to listen. SPEAK LORD, THY SERVANT HEARETH! I want the Lord to speak to my heart and to your heart.

That's what this is all about. We gather here to sing His praises, to thank Him for His mercies, and to hear a word from Him, and to be taught of Him, and to go home with something. Give me something to go home with tonight, Lord. Give me something that's encouraging. Give me something to think upon. Give me something. Bless the pastor.

Because tonight that's pretty much how you're gonna get something as we go through these verses and I speak. And I can't tell you how many times you've said, I didn't see that before. What you said was a real blessing. I get texts from, I got a text here the other night from someone that listens to us on the internet. Talking about what a blessing, what a blessing it was, that message on the altar, I believe it was. The Lord speaks, if it's a blessing, the Lord's speaking, if it's a true blessing.

We're to listen and give heed to the things which we've heard, lest at any time, as Paul wrote earlier, we should let them slip, drift away. Some of the Hebrews quit listening to their pastor. This is usually how it starts, they quit listening. And they started listening to another voice. And next thing you know, that person's in trouble. Some of them even left over it. Some of them, you know, the Judaizers got a hold of them. And they left, they went back. And Paul said they went back because they were not of us. If they had been of us, he said, they no doubt would have stayed with us.

So let's look at some of these verses, most of the remaining verses, down at least verse 22, and I'll read the rest. But in verse 17, he says, OBEY THEM THAT HAVE THE RULE OVER YOU. And submit yourselves, that is, submit yourselves to their guidance, their instructions, for they watch for your souls. If God has given you a true pastor, they watch for your soul, I watch for your souls. As they that must give account, these are heavy words. These are HEAVY WORDS, this is a HEAVY SCRIPTURE, verse 17. For they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief.

For that is unprofitable for you. Our God is a GOD OF ORDER. He's given order in everything, in civil laws, the magistrates we have. He says obey them, obey them. But He's given an order in the home, the husband, the head of the house. He's given order in His church. He's given a pastor, a pastor teacher to guide, to instruct, and to watch over His church, His redeemed, His children. His children.

You know, I know this. I can assure you this. You don't take Jet and just let anybody watch him. You don't do that. You don't let anybody, just anyone, watch your children. You only let someone watch your children whom you have absolute confidence in.

Who you trust. you trust. The Lord has entrusted us with the gospel. He's entrusted the gospel to me to preach to you each week. And it's my privilege and it's my responsibility to teach you, to guide you, and to instruct you and watch after you continually. Continually. You're my ministry. you are my ministry. In the scriptures, in the scriptures they're called PASTORS, TEACHERS, but they're also called WATCHMEN. WATCHMEN. They watch, listen for your souls.

Isaiah 62 6 I have set watchmen UPON THY WALLS, O JERUSALEM, WHICH SHALL NEVER HOLD THEIR PEACE, DAY NOR NIGHT. THEY NEVER HOLD THEIR PEACE. QUIET, NO, THEY CRY OUT. YE THAT MAKE MENTION OF THE LORD, KEEP NOT SILENCE. THE WATCHMAN IS TO NOT KEEP SILENCE. He used to cry out, if there's danger, let the people know it. If there's a dangerous person, tell them, don't listen to that person. Turn over to Ezekiel 33. You'll have to excuse my voice tonight, I have a problem with it. Ezekiel 33, look in verse 7, 7 through 9.

So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel, I have set thee. That's why He says obey them which have the rule over you because God set the man here and in all the local churches where the gospel is preached they have a pastor God set that man there. I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and warn them from me. Now I want you to listen how serious this is.

When I say unto the wicked O wicked man thou shalt surely die IF THOU DOEST NOT SPEAK TO WARN THE WICKED FROM HIS WAY, THAT WICKED MAN SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY, BUT HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THY HAND. We don't pick and choose what we are going to preach. When we go verse by verse, whatever that verse is dealing with, if it's immorality, it's immorality. We deal with it. We don't go around it and sugarcoat it because God said I'll require it at your hand. You didn't tell him he was sitting in front of you and you didn't tell him when you came across that verse because you're afraid offending him. I'd rather offend him than offend God. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, IF HE DO NOT TURN FROM HIS WAY, HE SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY, BUT THOU HAST DELIVERED THY SOUL. There's a lot of weight in preaching. I have the most important job in this world. No president, no leader of any kind on this earth has a more important job than I do.

I BELIEVE THAT! I BELIEVE THAT! THEY DON'T! THEY'RE WATCHMEN! AND HERE'S THE HEAVY RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING A WATCHMAN, A PASTOR, IS THIS! THEY MUST GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR SOULS! I'VE READ THAT THING, I'VE READ THAT SCRIPTURE OVER AND OVER AND OVER! I'M GOING TO GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR SOULS! FOR MY PREACHING TO YOU! to what I've said to you, I'm going to give account for that. Like a steward gives account of what he's been entrusted with, I'm going to give account.

But here's the kind of account I want to give, that they may do it with joy, with joy and not with grief, for that's unprofitable for you. THAT I CAN GIVE AN ACCOUNT THAT I CAN GO TO THE THRONE OF GRACE AND WITH JOY THANK GOD FOR YOU. Paul said, I thank God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord. I can pray for you with joy that the Lord has blessed you and you'll grow in grace and in knowledge of Christ. But there have been times that I have gone before the Lord and His prayer has been a It's been a grief. There's been a time, and there's nobody here, but there's been a time that I have prayed that if the Lord wasn't, if it was not His will to save someone, if He'd please remove them, whatever that meant, that He would remove them.

Because it's better for the church, for the body of Christ, if that person be removed. That is SERIOUS BUSINESS! Paul said this in 1 Thessalonians 2. Listen to this, For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? What is it? Are not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming? Paul says here, he says this, my hope, my joy, my crown, my rejoicing is when the Lord comes at you.

Trophies of God's grace. You have endured to the end. You have fought a good fight. You've kept the faith and you're ready to depart. That makes preaching, for me, preaching funerals, I've done a lot of them. But that makes preaching a funeral of a believer so much easier. It's stressful preaching funerals. But boy, when you preach one of a believer, there's a joy to it, there really is, there's a joy, it's an honor, there's an honor in it. It's a joy.

Paul says you're my crown of rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. I'm going to read you what Henry wrote on this. He said, If you receive his message and are faithful to Christ, the faithful minister goes about his work with joy and not grief. His prayers before the throne of grace are born of joy, not grief. And in the day of judgment when he shall be a witness of your final end." I read John Gill on this, and Henry is in line with him, that the pastor and the judgment will be a witness of those he's preached to.

And that will bring joy and not grief, not grief. I don't think that I don't think that the pastor will be grieved if the Lord tells one to depart from Him, I never knew you. I just don't know what that's about, but I do know this part, that when He says depart, there's going to be a lot of grief in that person. They are going to experience the grief. But when the Lord says enter in, boy the joy The rejoicing that we will have together.

I mean this kind of stuff like this is over my head. But I was thinking about this today when I read this. I mean I've thought about this seriously since I've been reading this. And I've been reading it for days. But in that great day of judgment when ye shall be a witness of your final end, let it be a joy to him and not grief. TO REFUSE TO HEAR THE GOSPEL FROM TRUE MINISTERS IS TO REFUSE TO HEAR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND WE'LL CERTAINLY GRIEVE HIM AND BE UNPROFITABLE FOR YOU.

Now, in verse 18, here's a prayer request, and this is my prayer request. I've had different ones of you since I've been here ask me to pray for certain people. You've asked me to pray for yourself, some of you. Well, here's one I've given you. Pray for us, us who preach. If you look down at the end of this epistle, it says written to the Hebrews from Italy by Timothy. Paul dictated this letter. I have no doubt Paul dictated this letter to Timothy. And that's why he says pray for us. We trust we have a good conscience in all things, willing to live honestly. Paul is saying I have a good CLEAR CONSCIENCE concerning my ministry to you. But here's the PRAYER REQUEST and then we'll talk about the CONSCIENCE.

Pray that utterance may be given to me and others who preach the gospel. Pray for me and pray for others as they come to your mind. Pray that I may be able to rightly divide the word of truth I don't want to ever, ever twist the scriptures to YOUR and MY destruction. Pray for me that I preach to you the gospel with MUCH CLARITY. I want it to be very clear. I don't want anybody to go away confused. Even a child, if a child was here, I would at least want that child to understand what I'm saying.

And pray for me that I preach the unsearchable riches of Christ in such a way that you and I grow in grace and in knowledge of Christ together. Pray for me. Pray for me that the Lord will open His Word to me richly so that I may give it to you richly. And pray for me that I'll always be a bold and faithful witness of Christ in this pulpit. PRAY FOR ME THAT I WILL ALWAYS EXALT JESUS CHRIST EVERY TIME I STAND TO PREACH. PRAY FOR US. THAT'S MY PRAYER REQUEST. PRAY FOR US. PRAY FOR ME.

And he says here, he says, FOR WE TRUST WE HAVE A GOOD CONSCIENCE, A CLEAR CONSCIENCE IN ALL THINGS WILLING TO LIVE HONESTLY. That word CONSCIENCE caught my attention. It is in the New Testament 30 times. It's spoken of 30 times. It's not spoken of in the Old Testament, but 30 times in the New Testament. Everyone has a CONSCIENCE. Before regeneration though, everyone's CONSCIENCE is EVIL. It's an EVIL CONSCIENCE. EVIL CONSCIENCE. Sin has messed up everything about us, hasn't it? It's messed up everything.

Hebrews 10.22 Let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an EVIL CONSCIENCE, and our bodies washed with pure water. Conscience means this, it means TOGETHER It means TOGETHER WITH. So the CONSCIENCE works TOGETHER WITH the HEART. It's an ASPECT of the HEART.

Listen, Romans 2.15 Paul says, Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their CONSCIENCE also bearing witness, and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or excusing one another. THE TESTIMONY OF THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE WITNESSES FOR OR AGAINST THEM. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING WRONG. YOU CAN TAKE THE HEATHEN ON THE DARKEST PART OF THIS EARTH AND THEY KNOW MURDER IS WRONG BECAUSE THE LAW OF GOD IS WRITTEN ON THE HEART, THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS. IT'S WRITTEN ON THE HEART. AND THEY KNOW, THEY KNOW IT'S WRONG.

Someone said that the CONSCIENCE is that inner judgment when you're doing something right or you're doing something wrong. CONSCIENCE is an AWARENESS. It's an AWARENESS that you've done something right or you're doing something wrong. You see somebody that's stolen something, what do they do? They walk out the store and just hold it up like that. THEY HAD IT KNOWING, KNOWING IT'S WRONG because their conscience says it's wrong. It's wrong.

Now you and I, our hearts have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ from an evil conscience. How often do you feel guilty? How often do you deal with guilt? The only way to deal with guilt is at the cross. The only thing that can quiet an accusing conscience is the blood of Jesus Christ.

And if you and I grow in grace and knowledge of Christ, more and more and more we'll have a greater understanding of what we have in Christ, what He's done for us, and you'll be able to handle that CONSCIENCE you have, under the BLOOD, under the BLOOD OF JESUS! In REGENERATION the CONSCIENCE is PURGED from dead WORKS to serve the LIVING GOD. Hebrews 9, verse 14, How much more shall the BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the ETERNAL SPIRIT OFFERED HIMSELF WITHOUT SPOT TO GOD, PURGE YOUR CONSCIENCE FROM DEAD WORKS TO SERVE THE LIVING GOD. PURGE YOUR CONSCIENCE, CLEANSE YOUR CONSCIENCE, that's what PURGE is, PURGE has the meaning of CLEANSE, WASH, CLEANSE YOUR CONSCIENCE FROM GUILT AND DEFILEMENT, FROM FEELING GUILTY OR NOT OVER CERTAIN THINGS.

You know Paul said that if it offends my brother that I eat meat that I'm not going to eat meat anymore because I don't want to defile his conscience. But there are things that I can do that I have no trouble with. But now there are some who are, I won't call them babes in Christ or they're not very mature in Christ. You know, they've been brought up in a false religion. They've been brought up in a home that says, YOU DON'T TOUCH ALCOHOL! I was brought up in that home in my early years. You didn't touch it. And then the Lord saves you.

And then you struggle with some things. I'm telling you from experience, you do struggle with some things. But as you grow in grace and the knowledge of Christ, you realize these are just dead works. I'm feeling bad about dead works. Things don't mean anything. It means nothing.

Everything in moderation. I know some people, you don't know them, but I'm thinking of a particular person. You'd have to put him in a straitjacket to get him to take one little sip. You'd have to put him in a straitjacket. I mean, he's as, as Barney would say, he's straight as a gun barrel and just as empty. Religious as a hill. He wouldn't take a drink for nothing. And I was that way, too. I was that way for a good while. I grew up like that in my early years. in a home like that. And then I realized, I realized there's a big difference in right and wrong. There's a real big difference in right and wrong.

You know, Paul said, you know, if you, if you go and you buy meat at the market and it's sold, it's been used in idol worship, he said, don't ask for conscience sake. Not yours, but His who sold it to you. You buy it and you don't say, Was this offered to Moloch? Just buy the thing and go home. Because if He says, Yes, yes, we used this in worship last night. And you say, Well, I can't buy it. Not because I think there's something wrong with it, but for Him who's selling it to me. I'm just going to encourage Him and His false religion.

This thing of conscience really got a hold of me because I dealt with it a lot when I very first heard the gospel. There was a lot of grave clothes I had to take off. The Lord took off. But I sat under a very strong ministry and so the Lord enabled me to just know the difference.

And I have a clear conscience. I have a clear conscience also about the ministry here. I don't feel like I'm a shortchange in anybody. I'm not in it for the money. That's what Paul is saying to them. He said, I have a clear conscience. My ministry has been upfront and honest.

And we need to do, here's what we need to do, we need to do as our Lord said, and this would help us so much in these areas of our conscience Cause everybody's got one. Now some people have what they call a seared conscience as with a hot iron. They have ignored it so much. They sinned against it so much that it's callous.

They feel nothing no more. I was watching a piece on those, the cartel down there in Mexico, just slaughtering everybody. It didn't bother him. It didn't bother him at all. How can they do that? They've done it so much. THAT THEY HAVE SEARED THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE, AS WITH A HOT IRON THAT IS CALLOUCHED. IT'S SO CALLOUCHED THEY DON'T EVEN FEEL. THAT IS AN EVIL CONSCIENCE. THERE, THAT'S AN EVIL CONSCIENCE.

HERE'S WHAT WE NEED TO DO, AS OUR LORD SAID, TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU AND LEARN OF ME. OPEN THIS BOOK AND SEEK THE LORD. OPEN THE BOOK AND SEEK THE LORD. I AM MEAK AND LOWLY IN HEART, AND YOU SHALL FIND REST TO YOUR SOULS. LEARN CHRIST AND FIND REST FROM AN ACCUSING CONSCIENCE."

So what is conscience? It is the knowledge or inner awareness of moral good and evil before God. It acts as a judge of our thoughts and actions, good or evil. And in regeneration, God cleanses our hearts and our conscience. And we have a clear conscience before God.

Happy is the man. I'm trying to think of that verse. Happy is the man that condemns not himself in the things which he allows. His conscience does not condemn him for taking a drink. It should condemn him if he takes a whole six-pack. It should get deadly, but just to take a drink? Henry said this one time, and it just cleared it up for me. I understood it. There is no sin in a bottle. There is no sin in drugs. Sin's in me. There's the sin.

So what Paul is saying, he is saying here that I ACTED WITH MORAL COURAGE AND PERSONAL INTEGRITY IN ALL THINGS, and you know it, and you know it. 2 Corinthians 1.12 Paul said, For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience. You see, your conscience testifies to you, it speaks to you is what he is saying, it speaks to you. our rejoicing is this the testimony of our conscious that in simplicity and godly sincerity not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of god we have had our conversation we've had our life in this world and more abundantly to you word and now paul paul prays for them HE SAID PRAY FOR US, NOW HE'S GONNA PRAY FOR THEM!

NOW THE GOD OF PEACE THAT BROUGHT AGAIN FROM THE DEAD OUR LORD JESUS THAT GREAT SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP THROUGH THE BLOOD OF THE EVERLASTING COVENANT. PEACE STARTS WITH GOD! YOU KNOW HE'S TALKING ABOUT THIS PEACE AND QUIET CONSCIENCE. AND I'LL TELL YOU WHERE IT COMES FROM. PEACE WITH GOD. IF YOU AND I REALLY UNDERSTAND AND HAVE AND KNOW PEACEFULLY WITH GOD, THROUGH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, WE CAN HAVE INNER PEACE. WE CAN HAVE INNER PEACE. REAL PEACE NOW. HE SAID MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU. REAL PEACE. PEACE STARTS WITH GOD WHO HAS RECONCILED US TO HIMSELF BY JESUS CHRIST THE PRINCE OF PEACE. EPHESIANS 2.14 FOR HE IS OUR PEACE. who hath made both one, hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.

Colossians 1.20 speaks of making peace through the blood of His cross, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus.

This is our hope that God has raised Him from the dead. I BELIEVE HE'S RAISED FROM THE DEAD! I BELIEVE JESUS CHRIST IS SITTING AT GOD'S RIGHT HAND AND I BELIEVE HE'S COMING AGAIN! THE BREAD OF LIFE, THE BREAD OF LIFE IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD. I'll give you something interesting. When they went into the tabernacle, do you know what side the bread was on? It was on the right side. Where is our Lord? At the right hand of God.

That's just a little bit from what's coming, another message I'm working on. But this is our hope that God raised Him from the dead, and this also shows that He really died for our sins. And God accepted Him and His work on our behalf, or He would not have raised Him from the dead. And that great Shepherd of the sheep, Starts out, it starts out there the God of Peace.

Now the God of Peace, and they wanted to go back to Sinai. Some of them wanted to go back to the Law. You want to go back to thundering and lightning and hell and earthquaking? Well go on, if you're going to do that, I can't stop you. BUT TO YOU WHO BELIEVE, THE GOD OF PEACE, WHO BROUGHT AGAIN FROM THE DEAD THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE GREAT SHEPHERD, SHEPHERD, OH WHAT A NAME, SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP, THE GREAT SHEPHERD, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE CHIEF SHEPHERD. Have you ever, you've watched on television the shepherd with his sheep, you have, he gives his life with his sheep, the Lord said.

He takes them to the green pastures. Psalm 23. He leads us. He makes us to lie down in green pastures. Are you able to lie down tonight in the word being preached? Are you able to really feed tonight? I have been. I've been feeding all week on it. THE GREAT SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP, THROUGH THE BLOOD OF THE EVERLASTING COVENANT, ALL THROUGH THE BLOOD, HIS BLOOD MADE ATONEMENT FOR THE SOULS OF THE SHEEP. THATS WHAT MAKES THIS SO SOBERING TO ME, AND YET SUCH A PRIVILEGE TO ME. I AM PREACHING EVERY WEEK TO A BLOOD-BALLED SHEEP. ALL THE BLESSINGS WE HAVE IN THE NEW COVENANT IS THROUGH THE BLOOD THATS SEALED AND RATIFIED that everlasting covenant. I thought I was going to get through this. Let me just say a few things, I'll cut it short. Notice what Paul prays for the Hebrews here, and this is a prayer we ought to pray for each one of us.

THAT THE GOD OF PEACE MAKE YOU PERFECT IN EVERY GOOD WORK, TO DO HIS WILL. I WANT TO DO THE WILL OF GOD, DON'T YOU? WELL, LISTEN HERE, WORKING IN YOU THAT WHICH IS WELL-PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, HE DOES NOTHING APART FROM JESUS CHRIST, TO WHOM BE GLORY FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN. THAT GOD WOULD BRING YOU TO MATURITY, ENABLE YOU TO GROW IN GRACE AND KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST, WITHOUT THIS GROWTH THERE IS NO SPIRITUAL MATURITY. WE MATURE AS WE GROW IN CHRIST.

WORKING IN YOU THAT WHICH IS WELL-PLEASING AND INSIGHT. GOD IS WORKING IN YOU. HE IS WORKING IN YOU. THE NEXT TIME YOU START THINKING ABOUT THE LORD TOMORROW OR TONIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED, YOU THINK OF THE LORD, YOU THINK OF SOME SCRIPTURE, A SCRIPTURE CROSSES YOUR MIND, I'M TELLING YOU THE LORD IS WORKING IN YOU. HE'S WORKING IN YOU. HE'S ALWAYS WORKING IN YOU. AND HE'S ALWAYS WORKING IN YOU AND BRINGING YOU AROUND TO DO HIS WILL ACCORDING TO HIS GOOD PLEASURE.

Philippians 2.13 FOR IT IS GOD WHICH WORKETH IN YOU, BOTH TO WILL AND DO OF HIS GOOD PLEASURE. YOU WANT TO DO GOD'S WILL. YOU WANT TO. WELL THAT'S HIM WORKING IN YOU. THAT'S WHY YOU WANT TO. THAT'S WHY YOU DESIRE TO.

Scripture says in Ephesians 2.10, we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus. To whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Isn't that what it's all about? To whom be glory forever and ever. To God be the glory.

And I beseech you, brethren, serve with the word of exhortation, for I have written a letter unto you in a few words." He entreats them to listen to His instructions that He's given, that He's written to them, He's written to them in this epistle, and listen, the epistle to the Hebrews is a summary of the whole Old Testament, and He's given it to them. responsibilities of the ministry.
