How do we know original sin is true?

Answered in 21 sources

Original sin is evidenced in Scripture where it states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and that we suffer the consequences of Adam's sin (Romans 5:12).

The reality of original sin is affirmed throughout the Scriptures, particularly in Romans 5:12, which states, 'Just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.' This verse illustrates that all humanity is affected by Adam's transgression, making original sin a universal condition. The presence of suffering and death, even among infants, serves as further evidence that all are liable to God's wrath due to this inherited sin. Therefore, the multitude of biblical references establishes original sin as a tenet of the Christian faith.
