How do we know that salvation is by faith alone?

Answered in 25 sources

Salvation is by faith alone, as exemplified in the lives of biblical figures who received God's promises through faith, not their works.

The New Testament consistently teaches that salvation comes by faith alone, apart from works. Hebrews 11 provides numerous examples (Abel, Noah, Abraham) who demonstrated faith in God’s promises and received salvation and commendation through that faith. Their obedience, while significant, was rooted in their trust in God’s character and His promises rather than in their own merit. The sacrificial system and the promises of God reveal that faith is the means through which we participate in the redemptive work of Christ. It is through grace alone that we are saved, and our faith in Christ’s finished work is what secures our eternal inheritance.
