What does the Bible say about God's discipline?

Answered in 10 sources

The Bible teaches that God's discipline is an expression of His love for His children, intended to guide them toward holiness and righteousness.

In Hebrews 12, the apostle reminds us that God disciplines those He loves. This discipline is not punitive but purposed for our good, to share in His holiness. As earthly fathers discipline their children, so our heavenly Father disciplines us to nurture and train us in righteousness. Discipline may feel painful in the moment, but it ultimately produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those trained by it, ensuring that we grow into mature disciples.
