How do we know God is sovereign?

Answered in 108 sources

The sovereignty of God is affirmed throughout Scripture, emphasizing that He rules over all creation and His will is ultimately accomplished (Isaiah 46:10; Ephesians 1:11).

The sovereignty of God is a fundamental concept central to Reformed theology. Isaiah 46:10 declares, 'Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.' This passage illustrates God's absolute control over history and His ability to accomplish His purposes without fail. Ephesians 1:11 further teaches that God 'works all things according to the counsel of His will,' showcasing that nothing occurs outside His sovereign decree. The understanding of God's sovereignty assures believers that all events, from creation to redemption, are under His divine governance, providing comfort and assurance amid life's challenges.
