How do we know that God's promises are true?

Answered in 24 sources

We can trust God's promises because they are backed by His faithfulness, revealed through Scripture, and confirmed in our personal experiences of His grace.

God's promises hold true because they stem from His immutable nature. John Newton emphasizes that our confidence in God's faithfulness is rooted in His Word and the historical fulfillment of His promises. As noted in Scripture, God does not lie or change His mind (Numbers 23:19). When we experience trials, we often come to realize how He has been present and supportive during those times, further solidifying our trust in Him. Moreover, the internal witness of the Holy Spirit affirms His promises, allowing us to stand firm even when circumstances seem contrary. Therefore, reflecting on both Scripture and personal experience is key to knowing that His promises are indeed true and will be fulfilled.
